SO THE NEW OPETH VIDEO IS PRETTY FRICKIN’ SWEET

“Porcelain Heart” is an interesting choice for Opeth’s first video to promote their forthcoming Watershed – its much slower and less heavy than most of the band’s “signature” tracks.

Not that that’s a bad thing. Crustcake called the tune “gorgeous,” and I’d agree with that. I also think the video – directed by Lasse Hoile – is haunting.

Watch the clip below and discuss amongst yourselves.

It’s Opeth! Anything they do turns to gold!

I detect sarcasm above me, but I will say this song sounds great. Can’t wait to hear the whole album.

Sarcasm? I think your sarcasm detector is broken.

Opeth is a very creative and imaginative band. Love the song and video, can’t wait ’til the new album comes out.

    Decent song.

As for the video: dark room, leafless trees, close-ups of mouths, bands lip-, guitar-, drum-synching, 3 millisecond frames…looks like one million videos before it. Videos should die.

I can’t get enough of this song. The guitar and drum work knocks me out more and more with each listen.

how does this guy go from having such a…pleasant singing voice to the most bowel quivering growls (that’s trademarked) is beyond me. i mean just listen to what he does in bloodbath. absolutely incredible. and even the opeth heavy parts are nothing to scoff at.

Good song but it just sounds like a slightly heavier version of a couple tracks on Damnation. I’m not criticizing because I love everything this band does, but this song seems like a retread.

Throw a cowboy hat on the lead singer and you’re looking at Chad Kroeger!

Does anyone feel like Akerfeldt is kinda half assing the vocal leads? They just don’t seem as awesomely melodic as they used to – I’m thinking of like Bleak and Drapery Falls – and more like just notes that happen to be in key. Also, I think that those heavy parts coulda done with some good ol’ fashion brutal vox. I was hoping for it and hoping for it, and it never came…blue balled.

This is great. It has to be an edit, right? It seemed like a few of the parts didn’t mesh together perfectly. The song is probably 10 minutes long on the album.

    It is an edit, yes.

Now there’s good lighting. Too bad the editing is terrible. No shot is more than 5 seconds long. How about that soft guitar solo part around the 3:15 mark. Could that have been one long shot? Nope. Such a waste of good light…

The song’s not bad either. I swore I’d never buy another Opeth album after Ghost Reveries, but I might go for this one. Not crazy about the new drummer though.

    the song was pretty good.

However, and I know this is totally unfair, but I probably would have liked it even more if it had come from a band not named Opeth. It just sounds like a bunch of their edge has been buffed out of them. Hopefully the stuff that was edited out is the heavier parts.

Damnation was an indulgence, an exception to the rule for them.

I’m interested to hear the full version of course, as 95% of Opeth to me is their transitions. The video was pretty trite IMO, but I liked how it focused on instrumentation. Mike’s a pretentious jackass, so maybe that’s why, but I’ll take it!

The chord progression in the bridge/outro riff (in this edit) sounds like a rehashed version of the main one from Grand Conjuration (my least favorite track on GR, btw).

awesome fucking chilling song still pretty heavy even without Mikeals evil growls some of Axe’s drumming seems a bit off to me perhaps he dosn’t quite live up to martin lopez. I also see the Grand conjuration similarity
