HE IS LEGEND RELEASE NEW DEMOS… AND THEY’RE PRETTY GOOD!

He Is Legend

Before ya’ll go crying that Uncle Vince has gone Christian, you should know that I haven’t listened to the lyrics of the new He Is Legend demos on their MySpace page yet. But lyrics be damned (haha, get it?), the music of the new He Is Legend demos is surprisingly good. The North Carolina-based band seems to have moved away from anything resembling metalcore and moved in a more dynamic but still heavy direction, something way more interesting than their previous material (which I also thought was pretty good at the time, though certainly derivative of Killswitch Engage). Multiple layers of lush guitar layering, a varied vocal attack, and even dissonance give way to some pretty big choruses… and while metal purists are most certainly going to cry foul, they can go fuck themselves. This is good stuff.

The demos are presumably for a new record that will see the light of day sometime this year. The Vince Neilstein pick of the three song lot s “Everyone I Know Has Fangs.” Check it out. Pretty good.

Press folks at Solid State Records, feel free to quote me on that; “He Is Legend: Pretty good!”

Vince, I agree with you, but I’ll probably be the only one.

meh, Living Sacrifice keep it br00tal! Why can’t more Christian bands be just as br00tal? Anyways, ‘He Is Legend: Pretty good!’ is a pretty hitting the head on the nail quote. Pretty good, but not great.

Living Sacrifice!?!?! Didn’t they decide to give it another go ’round? Releasing something later this year?

    @Cisco:

    Where’ve you been you dope?

He Is Legend rips. Too bad about the Christian thing. You don’t really notice from the music tho. Get Suck Out The Poison. Verrry slept on.

Must say I was somewhat cynical at first.. wasnt that big on Suck Out The Poison, but from hearing that.. im actually really excited to see how it turns out..

    Good call!

  • blah

you should listen to the lyrics, he writes some pretty crazy shit, and not very christian at all

  • Brett

Is that Fiona Apple on “Decisions Decisions?”

To make everyone feel better, Schuylar has said many times that He is Legend isn’t a christian band, they just happen to be on a christian label.

As for the new material, I think it’s fucking badass. Last time I saw them live(making it my 10th time seeing them…their live shows are AMAZING) they played a large amount of their older material and Schuylar’s singing was more refined, which I’m glad to see they carried over to their new demos.

Not to mention they’re some of the coolest guys you’ll ever meet.

    HOORAY HE IS LEGEND :D

I like ‘em but yeah the Christian thing will turn me off on most bands.

I don’t like bands that tell me im going to hell with all the boring bad degenerates.

I like the bands that tell me Im going to hell with the great fun degenerates, and the band’s coming along too, plus there’s gonna be a shitload of beer, PS3 and hot girls.

I’ve supported them from the beginning. Seeing growth and determination as a result regardless of scene hate and bigoted metalheads input, makes for a strong band period.

Impressive once again, “Suck Out The Poison” was their masterpiece. I can’t wait to hear the mastered releases of this new effort.

he is legend never claimed to be Christians.
have you had a convo with any of them? if you see them around at one of there shows.. talk to them.

I agree that He Is Legend have probably found a more suiting sound. The vocals are mind blowing in those demo’s. Seriously, you’re more than right, I can’t wait for this album.

To those people who say He Is Legend are Christians, it’s only the guitarist (you know the big scary guy) that is actually Christian. I remember reading uproar about him wearing an offensive t-shirt and him being Christian.

He Is Legend is in no way Christian. Yeah they might have been on Solid State and some of them might have followed those beliefs, but not now. And the bald guy is one of the more borderline atheists in the band. Talk to him at a show and you’ll find that out. Plus they all drink and do drugs. Not saying that you can’t be a christian and do that. What I’m saying is they don’t put up a front to kids, acting like they are holier than thou and preaching to people. And why would they? They aren’t a Christian band. Its even in their FAQ on their website and has been there for a very long time. People need to read those things, that’s why it’s there.
