SHINEDOWN DEBUT NEW SINGLE “DEVOUR”

Monday, May 5th, 2008 at 6:20pm by Vince Neilstein

Shinedown - the sound of madnessWe usually don’t go for the active rock set at MetalSucks, but damn, Shinedown’s new single “Devour” is about the single catchiest hard rock track I have heard all year. I’d be lying by saying I didn’t listen to this thing three times in a row the other day… it’s just that fucking good!

I’ve always had a soft spot for Shinedown, too — their debut Leave a Whisper was an excellent album, even if their follow-up Us and Them fell a bit short. And frontman Brent Smith has some serious, serious pipes.

Listen to the new track “Devour” on Shinedown’s MySpace or Official Website. Their new album The Sound of Madness drops June 24th on Atlantic.

    That song was shite. It sounds like it needs to be in a NAVY commercial.

    No! Bad Neilstein! Bad!

  2. Kip Wingerschmidt says:

    Hmm…Atlantic Records, aye? I hear their online division is made up of a bunch of wankers…

  3. Sammy says:

    Vince, if this is some sort of trap to get me to admit I really like Shinedown and agree with every word of your post, then consider me trapped and caught.

  4. Brett says:

    I dug Fly From the Inside and the other single from that album but I don’t care much for this track.

  5. drew says:

    this is kind of bad…. the verse sounds like Disturbed. They used to be slightly palatable, now kind of meh.

  6. Rockett says:

    Something missing from the guitar work. You can really tell that the dude who was their lead guitarist that left is really missing here….

  7. devil says:

    Momma always told me that if I can’t say anything nice I shouldn’t say anything at all.

  8. bud says:

    wo, screw momma, that sucked

  9. Dave says:

    disturbed indeed. and a little heavier nickelback.

  10. Conor says:

    Disturbed influence is definitely there, and I give it a big thumbs down. Brett’s (thanks for telling me his name!) vocals are best applied to ballads, like “45,” which fucking kicked ass. Especially the acoustic version.

    Whole-step-hammer-on-rhythm-riffing is so late 90s radio rock.

  11. ezra says:

    AAHAHAHAHAHA, Shinedown. You gotta be kidding me.

  12. Clyde Smith says:

    Not surprising. LOL.

  13. Wayne says:

    You have to be kidding me…..i didn’t even finish this song.

  14. Andres says:

    LMAO.

    Shinedown???

    Seriously?
    Hahahahahaha, ‘Devour…Devour…Devour (insert crappy lyrics here).’

    Guitarwork=Crap
    Lyrics=Crap
    Chorus=Crap
    Disturbed Rip Off “Catchiness factor”=Check, and yeah…Crap.

    I think there was a post a while back asking us what we thought would make this site better?
    Here’s one, no more Shinedown Videos.

    yea, to be honest i was extremely disappointed in this song.

    i have high hope for the new album since they have Nick Perri from Silvertide now, but this was just a HUGE let down. i wouldn’t be surprised if they wrote it before Jasin left or in his absence because it’s lacking everything makes Shinedown great…aside from the bridge, which has a pretty cool harmony. hopefully the best has yet to come.

  16. junkie4fame says:

    1st, Andres is a clown lacking taste in rock music.

    You guys must be joking? Shinedown is awesome and Brent Smith is a damn good singer. Just because PART of the song has similarities doesn’t make it a rip off of disturbed. A little over produced? Probably. Good song? yes. What’s cool about Shinedown is that they reinvent themselves on every album which is very rare and an amazing quality. Speaking of which, for the guy who said Us and Them fell short, I Guess thats why 2 tracks on that album stayed #1 on the charts for over 8 weeks!
    How can you judge the new album? You only heard one song! Then again look who I’m talking to, a bunch of people who don’t even like metal and with that said why the hell are you talking about Shinedown on this website? I was looking for something else when I came across this, but I had to throw in my thoughts because half the remarks made about this song or the new album are stupid because again, it’s not even out yet! Watch I bet they still go platinum with this album. Love ‘em or hate ‘em I think the one thing that everyone can agree on is Brent ’s Vocals in general. If you disagree I’d encourage you to listen to some acoustics especially Shed Some Light, Simple Man and the 45 acoustic version.

  17. Dewey says:

    this isnt a bad song, but its definately not their best work… check out the album when it comes out, cry for help, sound of madness, cyanide sweet tooth suicide are all good hard songs on it.

    this song has a very good intro and good verses but the chorus in my mind is way overproduced. the last thing you want to do is over produce a great vocalist, maybe do it to brittany spears and ashlee simpson but not with brent fuckin smith

  18. matt0805 says:

    song is good, but their other music on it, call me, second chance, and breaking inside are very good softer songs, shinedown is amazing and their vocals are top notch
