WE MAY NOT HAVE A NEW METALLICA ALBUM YET, BUT…

Monday, May 5th, 2008 at 1:06pm by Vince Neilstein

… at least the band just released some footage of themselves practicing “Creeping Death” in their rehearsal room. It’s pretty cool to see a bunch of mega-rock stars used to playing 70,000 capacity stadiums rehearsing in a room not too much bigger or fancier than the spaces local bands rehearse in. Plus, this video is worth the price of admission for the close-up of Rob Trujillo’s crab walk around the 0:25 mark.

Metallica’s new Rick Rubin-produced album is supposedly due in September with U.S. tour dates to follow.

  1. Dude, when did they hire Gallagher for lead guitar?

  2. bill says:

metallica apparently like to rip off the christian ska sensation, the o.c. supertones

  3. Vitruvian Ape says:

    holy devin townsend skullet, kurt

  4. Cretain says:

Bill: Too bad The O.C. Supertones first album came out in 1997, 13 years after Creeping Death was featured on Metallica’s album Ride the Lightning in 1984. Looks like the Supertones are the ones who like to rip off Metallica, not the other way around. Thanks for your insight though.

  5. bill says:

so this is what it feels like…

    …to be owned

  6. Bryan says:

Given the choice between a nightly bass stand-in and Snoop Dogg, I’d chose the stand-in.

  7. Man, Lars is a shitty drummer. And I think he’s getting worse by the day.

  8. Sammy says:

Do they really need to rehearse a song they’ve played something like 3,000 times?

  9. Zack says:

Contrarian.. i was thinking the EXACT same thing.. the dude is such a hack. why would they post this? it just shows how washed up they are.. mainly lars. have you seen this video? lars drumming is ATROCIOUS! so sloppy.

  10. Sammy says:

And what bands do you hang around with?? That rehearsal space is huge.

  11. rob says:

people still give these hacks the time of day after they let out that st. anger album?

  12. vman says:

i try not to criticize, but damn, he really is a terrible drummer.

  13. james says:

god….i have Rob’s bass stance…it’s fucking ridiculous…as for the rest of the band…Lars is meh, James is meh, Kurt needs to update his 80s wardrobe…but whatever.

  14. sklives says:

lars is slouchin…. like some old trick pony all wore out…time to lay him down…..POW!!

  15. devil says:

A.) How many rehearsal studios have you seen? In every band I’ve been in I’ve managed to cut my nipple on the drummer’s cymbal. That room is fucking HUGE.

B.) Lars Ulrich has to be one of the most pedestrian drummers EVAR.

C.) Considering the band has been playing this song for over two decades, goddammit do they SUCK at playing this song. I’ve seen high school cover bands do more stirring renditions. This was embarrassing.

D.) I don’t care what anyone says, I friggin’ HATE Robert Trujillo. This guy is an idiot. He’s not a great bass player, he’s annoying to watch/look at and he’s exactly what Metallica DIDN’T need in a bass player.

E.) As much as I hope the new album doesn’t completely suck every time I see/hear Metallica I feel like there’s no way the new album COULDN’T suck. These four people are so NOT Metal it’s absurd.

On the one hand I trust Rubin’s instincts. On the other hand, unless he walked in, punched each band member repeatedly and shouted, “You guys are a bunch of TWATS who wouldn’t know decent music if it SHAT on you!” there’s really no hope.

  16. miguel_g(Peru) says:

it’s a rehearsal guys, james doesn’t sing in any moment and even sips some coffee. They don’t take it that seriously and you shouldn’t, too. Is not like they have to nail the song like their lives depended on it. Probably they will kick your asses live when they want to. I expect the new album to be just a good album, not the most metal album ever done or something like that. Just a plain good album.

  17. billybob says:

Woulda been nice to hear even a portion of a new track, now that would’ve been news-worthy..

  18. Conor says:

What a boring, boring track. Everyone’s said it well already: Metallica is a turd band this day in age, and these riffs were neat decades ago.

I guess thrash metal will go out not with a bang, but with a whimper.

  19. Dr. John Zoidberg says:

Is it just me, or does the band look like they all still hate each other?

  20. Muttweiler says:

They should write an album about hating each other that might actually kick some ass! Anyways when do bands write relevant material some 15 years after they peak. As any act knowing the success of Metallica you just tour on your hits forever. SAD BUT TRUE!

  21. catsaremetal says:

I tried selling my copy of St. Anger for the last 4 1/2 years…still no luck. >:[

  22. dirtpipe says:

Yeah they just gotta put the guitars down, and walk away. Oh wait they should have done that in 1992.

  23. The Greys says:

    devil:

rob’s an idiot? what do you base that on?

  24. [...] Plus, the dude is sickly talented behind the kit, in stark contrast to what some of you had to say about Metallica’s current drummer. [...]

  25. Kenneth M says:

lars needs to go back to playing tennis.

that drumming was horrendous. jesus fuckin christ get someone to play for him like dave lombardo.

  26. Joe says:

I really don’t see you guys posting videos of your awesome drum skills..

It’s easy to talk about Lars behind your keyboard.

Have we forgotten about what Metallica has put out overall. I think the positives outweigh the negatives. Until you put out an album that has sold 16 million+ albums (just one album please), then maybe you can talk about Lar’s horrible drum playing. But until then, put up or shut the fuck up.

  27. Rokko says:

I can’t believe some people get so pissed of by other people’s opinions. Grow the fuck up!
