HOW AWESOME IS THE NEW PROTEST THE HERO VIDEO? THIS AWESOME.

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 at 10:53am by Vince Neilstein

Any day we get a new Protest the Hero video is a good day indeed. But when said video kicks this much ass it’s an even better day. I’m not sure if the director for the new video for “Sequoia Throne” is the same one who directed the video for “Bloodmeat” — the lighting, among other things, looks similar — but the boys in Protest and the folks at Vagrant Records have done a fine job highlighting one of the band’s best assets; the shred factor.

I mean, I’ve listened to Fortress many, many times (as you all well know from my constant rants) and I’ve always been quite impressed with the musicianship displayed by all of the band members. But this is one of those times where you need to see it to believe it; the crystal clear close-ups of the guitarists’ and bassist’s hands are the kinds of shots that get music dorks like me all in a tizzy. Dudes, look at what these guys are playing! Simultaneous bass and guitar fretboard tapping! Unh, unh… I’ll put it back in my pants now, sorry.

As someone who generally finds music videos to be a sea of stale, worthless sameness, this is actually decent. But man, metal bands should not use headless bass guitars.

The technical prowess of this band is impressive, but the continual lead riff/fills get annoying aftar a while. A little goes a long way.

Let’s also not forget the hammer-on overkill and when he does the singing parts he sounds like the guy from Loverboy (maybe it’s a CANADIAN thing?). A good album but now that some of the other stuff has been released this year it is relegated to my background.

Well, I’ll leave the discussion of PTH for another time, but I’ll say that the video, while rather dry, fucking rocks by showcasing the shredding.

I am so fucking sick of videos that don’t show the guitarist’s fretboard hand during solos.

Don’t know if I think its okay or if it just sucks….. certainly not great and I wouldn’t pay good money to see them.

i saw these guys live once. they had to stop the show midway through and solicit the audience for donations of sixteenth notes. we rounded up enough for two more songs.

they should put that on their rider: three (3) crates of emergency sixteenth notes. maybe they could borrow some from the Dream Theater/Opeth/Between the Buttcheeks tour?

Fuck you all. Protest the hero has more talent than most of these terrible metal bands today. I’m sick and tired off bands with their pathetic break downs to fill in the gaps on no talent. I’ve met these guys in person and they are one the funniest bands iyou’ll ever meet. I do agree the video could have been alot better. the song is impressive and the riffs are not repettive. Listen to metallica that’s repettive and boring.
