In regards to the new-old Ozzfest, well, it started as a single event festival back, what, 13 years ago? That was back when metal was at its commercial nadir, and while it was, you know, pretty much a joke for decades, they basically did what the internet had been asking in 1998-1999 in the middle of this decade. That the internet wanted something else by then was no big surprise given the boom for the genre, but that’s a point that really doesn’t matter in this equation. What does matter is the symbolism of metal as “valid” commercial entity in the present and future, and for MTV to have hipchecked what metal programming it had almost off the schedule and for Ozzfest to revert to being a non-occurance is pretty telling.

From a purely capitalistic perspective though, Sharon got every last dollar out of Ozzy and his legacy, and I’m sure that’s exactly what she, and, to a similar or even equal degree, her husband wanted. Maybe they can start running a single stage with a curtain down the middle like Jack Koschick was in NJ, Cali, and Milwaukee back at the end of the 90s and just run it till people stop buying tickets.

Oh yeah, and… what the fuck is Davis doin’ in there?

One more thing. Why didn’t he take his summer break during the fucking spring so Ozzfest could actually happen? I know that’s not the only reason, but shit find a better excuse.

All I can say is I hope Mayhem kicks ass.

I’m truly not an Ozzy fan.I respect his legacy because of the Black Sabbath days and also because of the records of the Randy Rhoads era.After Randy died the guy started working with people who get much more credit than they deserve (i.e. Zakk Wylde doing the same fucking solos all the time,producers who’ve worked with Britney fucking Spears (WTF) before he hired them to produce his own records..)The only way I would still care about his music would be if he could get a producer that’s never worked for pop artists,if he could get a new guitarist who’s not too busy being drunk and going to gay brodels to actually spend some time working on diverse riffs,and hell,he should let Geezer Butler handle the lyrics part,I mean they probably still talk to each other and all.Geezer Butler wrote lyrics that give a dark and interesting feel to a lot of songs that aren’t even dark in the first place which is definitely brilliant to me.

The guy is not dead.He just needs to wake the fuck up and change his environment so his music improves.Not that I believe it’s gonna happen since he’s obviously sold to radio and TV now,but eh,that was my two cents on how it could happen.Sharon might be his manager but she never was part of a band,and she doesn’t know as much about music as an actual musician or frontman does.
Ozzy should get up from his ass and speak his mind once in a while instead of letting her hire some gay poppy producers making all his records sound so over-polished it’s actually hard for a an oldschool fan to listen to them.

And hell,the money question.Sharon is throwing all the Ozzfest bands on the fucking streets.Make some research and see how much she asks from them for a slot on each year’s tour.No wonder a lot of killer bands aren’t part of the line-up.They got sick of being dragged in the mud.Because of the way she behaves,Ozzy is being discredited.

I say Ozzy,dude,fucking do something.Saving your career,at this point,has nothing to do with touring yourself to death.It’s about ACTING UPON THE SITUATION AND THE ENVIRONMENT AROUND YOU.

Granted, Metallica’s not as good as they used to be, and Ozzy’s not as good as he used to be. Maybe they’ll all cut their losses and just play equally mediocre sets.
