yea this better be a kick ass album for sure, and he better not pull a maynard (from tool) and pull away from the hardcore to a softer band. cuz it pissed me off when tool started to sound an awful lot like a perfect circle with “10,000 days”

I think the fame went to there heads, they no longer have anything to be angry about and that is why Slipknot no longer sounds like Slipknot. They are just another passing fad. This CD will be huge for a month and then everyone will say “Slipknot? I think I remember them.”

I find myself defending Slipknot a lot when talking with metalheads. I still maintain that their first album was absolutely crushing. I never cared for anything afterward (although, as JRowe said, Vol. 3 had some great melodicism, and props to the guys for not being afraid to explore that).

I found the video very metal. It didn’t have any dragons or swords or torturing or side boob. OK, I hold its not having side boob against it, but the rest? That’s OK. That’s kind of brave, especially for a band that’s always lumped in with Hot Topic trash.

I was into Slipknot back in the Iowa days.

Those days are not gonna come back.When a band decides to take a different musical direction,it’s always for good.Since in their point of view,going back to the old form is going backwards (even though for the listener,the experience tends to be highly different).

Corey has been softening his approach.He’s gonna sing instead of screaming and that says enough to me.

Even on Subliminal Verses…the dude wasn’t only doing cleans and it wasn’t the Slipknot I’ve once known,and that’s explainable by the fact that they are now sold to MTV.Why do you think Corey formed Stone Sour in the first place?That shit stinks commercial and mallcore hype.

That trailer is rather useless really.Can’t see the point and I’m pretty sure you’d ask the band and they’d just tell you they didn’t want to let you in on anything before the album is released.Just an excuse to have a fucking headline on Blabbermouth.Again.

You guys are forgetting that Dave Fortman also some of the best underground metal of recent years… he’s produced Superjoint Ritual, Soilent Green, EyeHateGod, Crowbar, Suplecs, Clearlight, etc. As a producer, he has great range, and just the kind of range that a band like Slipknot can benefit from.

I’m sure the new Slipknot will be good.

That exactly was my point too Axl.I mean,someone in some forum described it as “very 1997″.I mean isn’t that right?SlipKnot delivered a hell of an album and then they were sucked into this whole “project” thing,which ruined everything.I also have high hopes for the new album,but really they didn’t talk as much when they released Iowa did they?

I prefer SS to the ‘knot, but they should be different bands. There really is no sense in turning Slipknot into a slightly heavier version of SS. Otherwise they should just disband one or the other.

I thought Stone Sour’s debut was the greatest bait-and-switch in music history. Release a clean guitar, sweet ballad to make a bunch of girls run out and buy your album only to find out the rest of it is NOTHING like that song.

Being a native Iowan, I tend to defend these guys too (plus I legitimately do enjoy the ST and IOWA albums), but man… I gotta say I’m not exactly holding my breath for this one. I’m hoping the Jordison/Thompson contingent (heavy) outvotes the Taylor/Root contingent (less heavy) in committee. And hopefully they all outvote the Clown contingent (um, what?).

They’ve already made their glorified Stone Sour album with Vol. 3 (whoa, alert the Clever Title Police!), so hopefully this new one will be more akin to IOWA. They’ve already sold a millionjillionbillion albums, just make the fuckin’ brutal album you (probably?) to make, and to hell with Monte Connor or whichever d-bag at Roadrunner thinks.

Jesus that would suck if they did a glorified Stone Sour album. I enjoy the hell out of Stone Sour, but only because they’re Stone Sour, and not Slipknot.

You made your point Corey, you can sing. But that doesn’t mean you need to suck the brutality out of Slipknot.

Dave Fortman is quite a step down from Rick Rubin. The man made Mudvayne boring as dried up cat-turds. We all should be a little nervous…

David Bottrill would have been a better choice if they were looking to go in a different direction with a lesser known producer.
