THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN’S VIDEO FOR “BLACK BUBBLEGUM” DOESN’T JUST TASTE GOOD; IT’S GOOD FOR YOU, TOO
Wednesday, May 21st, 2008 at 4:10pm by Axl RosenbergI know that some people think that The Dillinger Escape Plan have gotten too big for their britches in light of all the critical acclaim heaped upon them for Ire Works. I don’t see it. Sorry. When we interviewed front man Greg Puciato last November, the dude told us to stick around the band’s tour bus and help ourselves to whatever we wanted from the fridge. And that was after the interview was already over. Does that sound like rock star ego to you? If it does, you’re too thin skinned, and God help you if you’re ever in the room when someone brings Marilyn Manson oranges instead of the grapes that his rider specifically called for.
ANYWAY, here’s DEP’s new clip for “Black Bubblegum,” directed by drummer Gil Sharone’s bro-bro Ilan. Like when I lost my virginity, I have almost no idea what’s going on here, but I love it.

DEP Owns!!!
look at those fools posin’ around like they were members of Disturbed or something
Fuckin’ savage-faith no more’d be proud!
It’s about time they made a video for this song, awesome video, awesome band, awesome song!
Maybe it is FNM-like, but I prefer it to the previous more spastic sound. But I’ve seen better actors in middle school plays. And better SFX.
Love the song, but the what the green fuck was that video??
I think I have to change my underwear now!!!
Still loving Ire Works. I’m happy that they don’t film as five tough dudes wearing wife beaters in some abandoned warehouse/field. Their last video was great also. I was hoping to see the footage where Ben broke his foot!
I fucking love the video because it left me confused. Thanks for helping fall in love with this band. Now I can’t get enough of them.
I love DEP, and Ire Works is truly genious. The video is cool, but I feel the blue screen editing could have been a bit smoother. And I didn’t really get the story line. But who cares? I love this song.
I dont get it.
I have not listened to this band since Calculating Infinity. And If you told me this was The Dillinger Escape plan I wouldnt believe you.
I dont want to say sell outs because Im sure they actually enjoy playing this crap…But what the fuck happened?
You know what sucks about this? The fact that up and coming metal bands are having to compete with this. You could sell this music to your parents. How is this considered metal?
by the way FAITH NO MORE rip off
I don’t know if this is a Faith No More ripoff as much as it is taking influence from Mike Patton. (who obviously played a huge role in the development of the band’s sound) And I assure you, my parents would NOT listen to this stuff. My parents listen to CSNY or this modern country shit. Industrial sounding pop music would not go over well.
That being said, maybe you should write your own MetalSucks editorial about the current state of metal for up and coming bands. You certainly have your own perspective you could offer on the matter(and are presently affiliated with this place to begin with)
Dillinger Escape Plan definetly softened around the edges, but they’re also getting older. That’s what you do when you get older, your taste in things matures.
This is still pretty raw alternative metal. Very reminiscent of “King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime” FNM but that’s never a bad thing; and if it’s just pop-metal or whatever, it’s some of the raddest pop-metal out there. All I want to do when I hear this song is wreck shit.
The video is okay. The non-performance stuff was silly, but you’ve gotta do something other than to pretend to play your song, I guess.
the only reason i wouldn’t believe this is dep (compared to younger dep) is that it looks like they have money now. i fucking love their new direction, and there’s a lot of bands that are now doing what they started so it’s been nice to see a progression from them..with that said, my favorite dep song is still “destro’s secret” .. or maybe “the mullet burden”.. i can’t really tell…. can’t wait for the u.s. tour with cavalera bros!
That was sick! Great video, it was weird and I loved the vibe.
Nothing like browsing archives, this is one I heard off of youtube a long while before the video was released, I still don’t like them at all, but this is better than the utter shit ear-gouging rape I was forced to sit through in what would become my first concert.
All the same I have to agree, this is basically FNM, which considering how involved Mike Patton has been, that’s to be expected. The video itself is nonsense of course, but it goes well with the lyrics, so it works. ;)
It sounds more like Tomahawk than Faith No More, but the Patton influence is obvious. I’m wondering if he had a hand in writing the song?
