MORE FOOTAGE OF METALLICA IN THE STUDIO GIVES US MORE POINTLESS SHIT TO ARGUE OVER

I have a confession to make: the first time I heard the riff for “Frantic,” it was on that otherwise abysmal MTV Icons bullshit (you remember – Avril Lavigne and Slumk 4182 butchering your favorite Metallica classics), and I thought it sounded pretty good. Stripped of the shitty lyrics, terrible production, and interminable 27 hour running time, the song actually might have had something to it; of course, when I heard the final studio version a few months later, I threw up all over my shoes, skipped to the next song, and then threw up again.

My point is this: at the end of the day, we can’t judge the new Metallica album based on little clips of songs. Until we hear it, we won’t know for sure whether or not it sucks (although let’s be real, kids, it probably will suck).

Still, that shouldn’t stop you all from the fun of analyzing and dissecting yet another video from the Mission: Metallica site (I’d link to it, but I don’t want to) until you’re blue in the face. So… enjoy.

The stuff seems okay, but one thing I’ll say is:

I fucking love Trujillo, legend XD

    Gee, um…thanks?

@Gibbo: agree. If they let Trujillo loose like his days with Suicidal Tendencies? Look the fuck out!

  • Oh yeah?

I just downloaded all of Metallica’s catalog from the internets…

and then deleted them. SUCK IT, LARS!!

That riff is from “The New Song” the played at some concerts in 2006.

To me this sounds a bit close to the Load/Reload stuff but I’m not gonna get completely fooled by a few riffs and bass parts…once I hear the properly mixed song,if it sounds like the Load/Reload shit then I’ll worry.

-Kirk, I’d think you better sit down.
-What’s goin on guys? I thought we were having a seance tonight? I’ve been meditating all day to find my balance.
-I’ll be honest Kirk, there is not going to be a seance. Look, we are all here because we are you friends and we want to support you. We want you to be healthy and make the right choices. But Kirk…man this is harder than I thought…we need you to give up the wah pedal. Look, youre not a bad person, I mean we can all share the blame here. if we were better friends we would have said something long before “I Disappear”, but we didnt. so please, we need to be strong together.
-Cmon guys, this is a joke right, i mean Hendrix..
-Yes Yes, Jimi was amazing. Machine Gun thrived on the wahwah, but Kirk, Jimi didnt play metal. The wah is great in psychadelic bands, but in metal it has its limits. Dime pushed the wahs and pitchshifters as far as they will go, so lets leave these experiments to rest.

Yeah…that was definitely the same riff from ‘The New Song’

    Only slower.

Metallica are great at making movies about being rich and comfortable. They need to stick to that and leave the music writing to others.

I have been let down by this band before but they have to many classics to write them off just yet. I am keeping an open mind on this record. St anger wasn’t so bad it had some really killer riffs but the whole lacking solo’s and garbage can drums and way to long songs killed it. the dudes can write some killer riffs I am confident that they will be able to put a respectable record out and just for arguements sake Ride the Lightning is the best Metallica record of them all

Seriously, Metallica blows. “St Anguish” was a terrible, shitty album. They’re washed up, finished, done, over.

Dudemandude…that was classic! To Noch…if the new one sounds anything like Load it will sadly show that they are making progress by moving backwards.

I’m looking forward to Trivium’s next album…that’ll sound more Metallica than these guys ever will again.

  • Brad

I really wish they would stop making albums, its just making it harder for me to keep respecting their old music

That’s probably the best statement I’ve heard yet, Brad. It does make things kind of difficult.
