MONDAY SONG TO EAT MEAT TO: TOMAHAWK – “CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT”

Tomahawk - Mit GasHappy Memorial Day to our U.S. readers, and we hope you’re enjoying your day off by stuffing yourselves silly with grilled meat and beer.

Mike Patton has done a hell of a lot of weird shit over the past decade, but as far as I’m concerned Tomahawk has been his best (read: most Faith No More-like) output since Faith No More. Tomahawk has consistently been his rockingest project to date, featuring a metal pedigee of Jesus Lizard/Hank Williams III guitarist Duane Denison, former Helmet drummer John Stanier, and Melvins bassist Kevin Rutmanis. And this song, from 2003’s Joe Barresi-produced Mit Gas, came closest to equaling the sound and ethos of latter day Faith No More.

Best meme ever. I could definitely grill to this shit.

This and “Sweet Smell of Success” are my favorite Tomahawk songs. When I first got ‘Mit Gas,’ I just listened to “Capt. Midnight” on loop.

Good call. Very beef/pork/chicken friendly tune.

Crazy. I was on a flight from Arkansas yesterday, and Mit Gas was my choice of music.

Tomahawk gets nowhere near the amount of love that they deserve. Another Amen from me on this one, Vince.

As you may or may not know, Kevin is no longer with the band.
