WHO WANTS TO MAKE UNFAIR SNAP JUDGEMENTS ABOUT THE NEW SINGER FOR ANTHRAX BASED ON SHITTY CELL PHONE FOOTAGE?

So Anthrax have been making the rounds with their new singer, Dan Nelson, and now some crappy cell phone footage of the re-jiggered band opening for Iron Maiden last week has popped up online (Needless to say, none of the footage is of any new songs, which the band played at some warm-up club gigs but not at the Maiden shows. Figures.). Of course, making a judgement about Nelson’s talents based on such terrible quality video and audio is totally unfair, but this is MetalSucks, not We Love Kittens, so fuck it. Watch the clips below and let us know what you think. Personally, I’m amazed how much the dude seems to sound like John Bush – especially on the Belladonna-era tracks. Go figure.

“MADHOUSE”

“ANTISOCIAL”

“ONLY”

What can I say, I think it sounds pretty damn decent, compared to Bush era stuff.

Can we, as fans and proponents of this genre, tell singers to stop the yelling at the crowd between vocal melody thing? Listen to Anti-social, it’s unbearable (in pretty man voice) Woaaaa ooohhhh, woooaaaa ohhhhh (now in angry man voice) EVERY MOTHERFUCKER!!!
it sounds like its the first time this guy has a mic in his hands. sheesh.

I can’t definitely say I hate his singing until I hear the record, but the stage banter is straight up, Live-Proof 101, Anselmo. It not cool and way too overbearing.

    dudemandude,

You got me thinking; isn’t Pantera what Scott Ian wishes Anthrax was anyways? I’m surprised he didn’t scoop up the guy from Damageplan.

not blown away, but not too bad either. hopefully this is a warm up round to get his voice sounding good for the album. definitely has a Bush-esque tone.

Sorry, but John Bush with the guys from Anthrax wasn’t Anthrax. It was a cheap imitation. Especially because Dan Spitz was gone. Scott Ian isn’t a very good RHYTHM guitarist, let alone a lead guitar player. With this guy it sounds even cheaper.

At least I have Spreading The Disease, Among The Living, State Of Euphoria and Persistence Of Time. Those are the only albums that really matter. Aside from the Neil Turban material, everything else sucks complete ass. I know you guys like the John Bush crap, but it’s just that; CRAP.

hiburnum: after i wrote it i was thinking about their love for pantera and all, but i was hoping that after dime soloed on a few albums and then they moved away from that sound on WCFYA, that they had moved on.

i’m curious to know if this was some unconscious thing, like scott and charlie thought there was something great about him that they couldnt quite explain, but the truth is just that he reminded them of phil.

good singer. horrible stage presence though.

I would like to toss in my vote for renaming the site We Love Kittens.

I would’ve killed to see Anthrax – Dan Nelson or no – open for Maiden last night in Seattle. No such luck. It was Steve Harris’ daughter Lauren and her band, Nepotism, err—Lauren Harris. I know a guy has to look after his kids, but man that band sucks.

Maiden was better than 20 years ago in their “prime”.

@devil, you do realize, don’t you, that most of Spitz’s solos were written by Charlie Benante – the drummer! That’s why he was dismissed.

I really like his voice and now I’m confident worship music will be ok.And if it isn’t it’s not going to be his fought at least.
Anthrax usually has pretty good riffs and Charlie is one of the better Thrash drummers.
I think that Anthrax will make the record they want and in turn it will be good.I think the albums from Slayer,Metallica, and Megadeth sound really forced and I don’t think Anthrax will go in the same direction as that.
