DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN VS. DISTURBED: ROUND 2

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008 at 10:52am by

Ben WeinmanIn what’s become one of the most amusing metal soap operas since Axl vs. Weiland ’07, Dillinger Escape Plan (presumably guitarist Ben Weinman) fired back at Disturbed guitarist Dan Donegan after the two engaged in a war of words through the press a couple of weeks back (read Axl’s recap here for some hearty amusement). From the DEP MySpace blog:

The guitar player Dom Deluise or whatever his name is with the little peen complex from that band Disturbia or whatever they’re called thinks that we care about them. Old news, but still funny. Check it. “My Ferrari is better than your Honda!!! Our stages come apart and travel with us and yours don’t!!! We have thirty guitar techs and you have one!”. Coooool self esteem barometer douchebag. Wait…what’s that I hear? The sound of your band still sucking? Oh, right. Gotcha there, bud.

While the “we don’t care about them” bit always rings a bit hollow (after all, you’re writing about them… so you care. duh.), I can’t help but think this is mostly designed as a way to bait Dan Donegan (Dom Deluise!) into making more ridiculous statements. Take the bait, Dan! Take it!

So, I’m going to have to side with Donegan on this one. Yes, he was condescending, but at least his response was articulate. DEP just sound like a whining teenager, making up half their accusations. Yeah, it might be considered “funny” but it just sounds like whining to me.

whining bitch get over yourself. they sell more thats life for a metal band

  • Angry Geek Girl

Seems to me that both DEP and Disturbed sound like little children. This sort of childishness is why so many outside of metal think Metal for idiots. Grow up people. It should be about your music, not about baiting people like grade-schoolers.

BTW I do love metal but some of these artists’ antics are embarrassing.

I’m with DEP. I enjoy people who are comfortable enough with themselves that they can incoherently burn another person for being a sell-out.

Anyone who wants to engineer a protracted discussion on what it actually means to be a conformist, be my guest. I’ll abstain, thanks.

  • Angry Geek Girl

Most people who claim to be non-conformists are just conforming to a different group.

As for the this “sell-out” stuff, it usually comes with the smell of “I’m a poverty snob.” The whole “I’m better than you because I’m a poor suffering artist” bull shit makes me ill.

It doesn’t matter what either say it will never change the fact that DEP is around 9000x better than Disturbed is and it won’t change unless disturbed makes some changes, namely replacing all of their band members.

    Dom Deloise….snicker

  • razzo

    wait…

    It takes THIRTY guitar techs????
To press play on a DAT machine??

If I had THIRTY guit techs on payroll, some tour managers would be getting their asses fired…

  • Devin

Personally, I hate both bands. DEP’s music is just, not enjoyable at all. Disturbed tries to be heavy but they just arent. If I had to hate one less though it would be DEP, because I enjoy watching their vocalist run across peoples heads on youtube.

There is an old saying about gnats flying with eagles.

  • don’t panic

“I can’t help but think this is mostly designed as a way to bait Dan Donegan” yeah, bait him by acting like a girl from mtvs sweet sixteen. i understand the disturbed bashing cause they suck but you guys like DEP way too much considering you’re into metal. buncha spin kicking mathcore douchebags too masturbatorily pretentious to write actual songs; if you ask me.

If you go back over all this shit, Weinman wasn’t even cracking on Disturbed as much as he was just pointing out that it was a different scenario than he was used to in his time with DEP. That douchenozzle in Disturbed was the one to get his panties in a twist over it.

And everyone started on this whole who is better thing. that wasnt the point in the first place.

    Disturbed’s music just sucks.
