252,777 CHUMPS BUY DISTURBED’S INDESTRUCTIBLE IN FIRST WEEK OF RELEASE

Friday, June 13th, 2008 at 10:06am by

Van Halen, U2, Metallica, Dave Matthews Band, Staind, System of a Down… Disturbed. Sigh. These are the elite ranks of rock acts to have three #1 debuts in a row.

Excuse me while I go vomit.

In other news, Opeth debuted at at #23 with 19,655 units shifted. But it kind of feels like getting a pair of socks for Chanukah when your brother got that sweet new video game.

For a second I was like “SIGH DEBUTED AT #1?!!!”

Australia beat you guys, Opeth debuted at #7.

  • http://www.myspace.com/evilsammy Sammy

You do realize, don’t you, that G ‘N’ R sold 26 million copies of their debut album, right? Doesn’t that make them shitty, mass-appeal, sellout douchebags?

  • http://lordsofmetal.nl FleischBerg

Disturbed sold more than 250000 copies in it’s first week? I didn’t know they were THAT popular, this sucks!

  • Dress to Depress

Sammy, I don’t think Axl means that a band that instantly jumps to #1 in their first week is a bunch of shitty, mass-appeal, sellout douchebags. I think he’s indicating that Disturbed, for the simple fact that they are indeed Disturbed, are a bunch of shitty, mass-appeal, sellout douchebags.

  • Dress to Depress

Whoops, make that Vince, not Axl. Sorry, all you indignant, metalhead jews seem the same to me.

  • http://www.myspace.com/evilsammy Sammy

Has anyone actually ever seen Vince and Axl in the same place at the same time?

    Huh???

  • anus

If you keep making music for stupid cunts then predictably, stupid cunts will still buy it

they need to be removed from the gene pool immediately.

  • ERiK

Just admit it fags, you are on the losing team. You are losers. Get used to it, and embrace it.

  • ThrillHo

    I thought it said “252,777 CHIMPS buy…”

That seems to more accurate, no?

  • ThrillHo

…Come to think of it, chimps are smarter than Disturbed fans.

  • d.o.g.o.b.g.y.n.

I, for one, am not surprised. Crap like Disturbed selling well is just as predictable as idiots like “ERiK” having a vocabulary limited to words like “fags” and “losers”.

  • ERiK

    Embrace your destiny elitist.

  • http://www.myspace.com/jay234t Jason

Look at it this way; At least it kicked the shit out of the new Usher record.

  • Revrant

Seems I started an elitist trend, perhaps this is for the better? ;) Well, no one here will have listened to the album, or even if they did, really gave it a chance and listened to it without sneering, so I find the jeering just hilarious.

Jason is right, look at it this way, if Coldplay gets beaten by it, the world still isn’t as fucked up as it could be, right?

  • NateD

Coldplay is far better than disturbed anyday.

  • 36Thoughtless

Sammy, correct me if I’m wrong, but you seem to harp on this idea that we metalheads only listen to bands that are underground. Popularity has nothing to do with my musical decisions; however, much popular music is mediocre and unoriginal (literally and figuratively) in my opinion.

  • Dress to Depress

Nah, I haven’t heard the new Disturbed album, but do I really need to? I admit to having the first one, “Down With the Sickness,” back in the day. Hell, I even saw them open for Coal Chamber (startin’ to feel my age here)…but then I got out of high school and realized that there was a lot better stuff out there. And you can’t tell me that there really has been that much progression between Disturbed albums that the new one warrants me giving it a try–I simply don’t believe it.

  • http://www.myspace.com/evilsammy Sammy

@36, No not all metalheads. Just a lot who visit this site. I was merely pointing out the hypocrisy of harping on “famous” bands who have #1 albums while drooling over Guns who also happened to have been huge (but who really only had one decent album – Appetite).

There are also a lot here who seem to think if a band doesn’t have cat-strangle or broken-glass-gargle vocals and chaotic, completely non-structured (but extremely fast) lead riffs and endless double-bass, then the band must therefore suck.

My tastes just happen to cast a wider net, encompassing bands from most of the metal genres that don’t end in “core”.

  • jaahn

@Sammy, if given a choice between a band with “cat-strangle or broken-glass-gargle vocals and chaotic, completely non-structured (but extremely fast) lead riffs and endless double-bass” or a 30-something hot topic refugee making howler monkey noises over some of the worst corporate rock i’ve heard since Journey…yeah, bring on glass gargle vocals and double bass.
while your tatse in metal may not include genres that end in “core”, liking one that start with “nu” is no better.

  • http://www.myspace.com/evilsammy Sammy

    @jaahn,

I guess I’d have to have a definition of “nu” metal. I despise the term because it has been expanded by some to include bands from widely different sounding genres. Originally it meant only rap-metal type bands like LP and Papa Roach, but somehow was expanded by some pundits to include anything without downtuned guitars. Except then bands like Killswitch and well, everyone including Iron Maiden, started downtuning their guitars, so now “nu” just means, “music I don’t like”.

My real issue is with utter disdain for others’ tastes in music just because it differs from your own. Or the disdain for someone liking clean vocals. Or the disdain for any metal that isn’t “experimental” or death. The compartmentalization of metal is not bad, as it has expanded the genre beyond its roots of Priest, Sabbath, Ozzy and Maiden. But the baggage it has brought includes metal snobs who seem to have taken ownership of definition of metal and what is good or bad. It has also caused a whole lot of close-mindedness with respect to looking beyond one’s own narrow taste. And with that has come the mean-spirited “If you like that you should die” bullshit.

  • jaahn

    @Sammy
    touché.
i see where you’re coming from now, and seeing as i’m big enough to admit when i may have been wrong/a bit harsh, i’ll take back my usage of the word “nu” when it comes to your taste in metal.
as for the whole Disturbed vs GNR argument though, i think the reason they’re not ripped on as much is, unlike Disturbed, they didn’t keep pumping out the same album over and over. i’m not disagreeing with the fact that Appetite was their best album, and the others were just a few good songs and LOTS of filler. i’m just saying at least with Illusion 1&2 it wasn’t Appetite part 2 &3.

  • Revrant

    NateD: *Busts up laughing*

Dress to Depress: Hasn’t heard shit since the first album, thinks every single one after is the same thing, where have I heard this before? Oh right, from the majority of people here, but kudos, you actually fucking admit it, unlike those pussies.

jaahn: Not having heard shit since the first album again, this trend is as boring as the lyrics of DEP/Linkin Park.

  • Joe A.

To the Disturbed lovers: I won’t say you should die, I just think you have bad taste in music. I’m far from narrow minded though, I listen to everything from metal to classic rock to classical to jazz. I don’t hate your tastes alone though, I find most of the whole metalcore (BDM & Killswitch) to Deathcore scenes to be crap as well. Thing is ever since the 80′s the major labels and major radio stations have spent money in little accessible parts of Metal to elevate them into hyped up products that can be merchandised like hell. Sometimes these fads do have a few bands that do have talent or can write a good song. Looking at the Glam scene most metal heads would at least admit to liking one song or band, like Motley Crue. Yet, there was always a very obvious line drawn. Poison fans were not going to dig Megadeth and Slayer shows. The same fad hyping with a corporate push behind it all then happened with the whole Alternative/Grunge movement (though that was hijaked more than anything), rap-metal/nu-metal (though Rage Against the Machine were held above such low levels as LB and Sepultura’s Roots was a masterpiece) and now its happening with Metalcore. My hatred of Disturbed is on the same level as thrash metal’s hatred of Poison/Cinderella and how many now hate all the metalcore and deathcore acts that seem to be popping up like ants from the ground.

Any lover of Metal should be able to look at the difference between the Ozzfests and Wackens of 1999-2002 and see that there are obviously two rather different events going on.

If you haven’t listened to anything since the first album, you need to. Even though I personally think the first album was the best, the rest of the stuff is defiantly worth the time. Especially the new album.

  • http://idiotaignorante.splinder.com ZillionDollarSadist

Hmmm, Disturbed may not be, and actually aren’t, the second coming of Judas Priest, but still are powerful & crunchy and blast Opeth’s bollocks off – because Opeth is boring as shit, goddamnit! :)

  • vance almighty

the new disturbed album is awesome.

what pisses me off, is when people try to make you feel bad for liking a certain band or type of music that they themselves don’t care for.

it’s a shitty fucking thing to do.

  • Evil Lazlow

The new Disturbed album IS good, and it definitly deserves the recognition it is getting,
just as much as staind and U2 and so on.

The bands should not receive a slanderous battering from some “so called hardcore im getting a stiffy about Opeth and everyone else can die” bloke (or girl by the fact that women seem to have alot to say about nothing) just because the bands are delivering great music to their fans and staying loyal.

i agree with Vince almighty above,
it is fucking annoying when ignorant people talk complete shit about other people, their hard work and their fans, total disrespect and that person therefore knows fuck all about music

  • dthrasher

There is nothing elitist about not liking Disturbed because…get this….THEY FUCKING SUCK. That’s all there is to it. There are no redeeming qualities to their releases as far as musical innovation/creativity/technicality/etc. They cater to the masses of people that only have a cursory interest in music, but don’t have the desire to listen to anything that is musically challenging. For the perfect example of this check out the latest Guitar World magazine that had a video lesson spotlighting the joke that is Dan Donegan. *Disclaimer* Do not drink anything during the viewing session as uncontrollable laughter may result with disastrous results for your keyboard.

  • DisturbedRULES

    Disturbed Rules. suck it bitches

  • http://www.metalsucks.com Jared

And to all disturbed members David, Dan ,Mike, And Fuzz you guys fucking rock. From the number1 disturbed fan in the world.

  • http://www.metalsucks.com Jared

To you NateD Shut your mouth and learn what good music is.

  • Llewronymous

Is there anyone here who actually likes Disturbed who is finding this blog actually disturbing or is it just me.

  • Llewronymous

By the way, Disturbed rocks any other asshole who thinks otherwise may shove his fucking ugly ass down a rabbit hole. I listen to he so called “elite metal bands” and i like them just as i dig the so called sellouts of metal. And when i come across an ‘elite’ band that sux i dont condemn them to eternal dissing just becuse i dont like them. I dont see why sum1 shud be dissed because they like a band of ‘lesser’ metal, whoever came up with such a phrase is a sad ass midget that has nothing to do except transfer all his misery to dissing really good and original bands. By the way, i am a black metal fanatic and i dig nu metal, and metal core, so piss off all you immature bitches who dis them!!!
Bands like disturbed are successful because they worked at it, and they still are, next time you try to criticise a band you must first of all show that you can sing, write lyrics, and play better than them!!!!

  • Self-Titled

    Respect to the disturbed
