DO YOU LIKE THE BRONX?
Friday, June 27th, 2008 at 10:56am by Vince NeilsteinThere are a certain subsection of metallish bands that have elements of metal in their music but aren’t metal, per se, by the purists’ definition. The Bronx are definitely one of those bands. I have complete faith that some of our readers are big fans; others will have never heard of them and wonder what crap like this is doing on a metal website.
But fuck it. The Bronx are awesome and they have a new song on their MySpace page called “Knifeman.” If you like Fugazi, Shellac, and good, dirty, raw rock n’ roll in general, you oughtta like this band. I think they’ll be releasing a new record this year, too. Sweet.

Couldn’t agree anymore, this band is excellent. Nice to see bands outside the metal world get recognized on sites like this one.
BIG fan. They are releasing two albums, and one of them is going to be a mariachi album. Seriously.
I FUCKING LOVE THE BRONX.
imagine it. them and protest the hero. on the same tour. it’s enough to make up for all the other trash that’s tarnished the name “Warped Tour”.
The Bronx are fucking awesome!! i had heard bits and pieces when i worked in a record store, but then i saw them open for Mastodon a few years ago, they were that perfect blend of driving metal and lo-fi garage rock. they put on a killer show. one of a similar vein that i loved from note one [i'll probably get shit from readers here, but oh well] is Everytime I Die. FUCK! love ‘em.
I like this band. I saw them open for Lifetime. No one else there liked them but me.
Absolutely great! Saw them open for Mastodon a couple years ago, and they blew my mind. They were on Swami for a while (John Reis’s label, ex-RFTC lead-sginer. RFTC: another GREAT “What-do-we-call-these-guys?” band). I totally agree with thedoomsdaybroadcast too: I love ETID, but buddies who are more “metal-purists” (and what the hell does that even mean) hear ETID and The Bronx and hate it. Very differnt styles, obviously, but both gut-punching rock that make me shake my ass. At the end of the day, that’s the whole point, as far as I can tell. Excellent quetion for a post!
Absolutely! I am geeked that they are coming to town next week. One of the few bands that my not-metal-in-the-least sister and I agree on.
Only rock band I listen to these days. Every single time I find myself looking for good music on my iPod, it inevitably winds up on The Bronx. Absolutely perfect sleazy band.
I’ve always really enjoyed this band. I’m excited for their new stuff.
I love this band, saw them open for mastodon and converge and they are amazing
They’re pretty baller. They remind me a lot of Division of Laura Lee’s heavier non-trippy stuff…like pretty much identical now that I think of it.
Love The Bronx, saw them live at the Soundwave Festival last year and they were hilarious. Guitarist was all fucked up in a wheelchair from a stage diving accident where he cracked his pelvis but still played (sitting down) and the singer took a hell long mic lead to the other end of the crowd, climbed the fence into the licensed area, skulled a beer then was passed back by the crowd, singing the whole time. Kick arse band.
Fuck yes. I get to see them on the 4th of July here in Austin. Very stoked.
What a great track! I guess they’re not on Def Jam anymore?
[...] a fucking great lineup. I love The Bronx, and you should too; even if they’re actually from L.A., we’ll forgive them because [...]
