IRONHORSE: NEUR-ISIS WITHOUT THE WANK

ironhorseSometimes band suggestions that our readers send us are horrid, and sometimes they’re pretty damn good. Thankfully the recent email from Patrik A. was the latter; Boulder, CO’s Ironhorse are a more technical, focused, and — dare I say — brutal version of Neur-Isis. As someone who constantly finds myself zoning out when listening to both of the aforementioned bands, I can say that Ironhorse’s description of themselves really rings true: “Power and Intensity without losing song structure.” So if you like those bands, and even if not, check out Ironhorse as you have your first sip of Monday morning coffee… it might help shake off the weekend cobwebs.

I don’t know if I hear any Neurosis in this band at all. Way too tech and with zero dynamics. Maybe closer to earlier Isis or Pelican. That said, it isnt half bad.

And V- I do believe you need to listen to “Through Silver And Blood” again and then “Times Of Grace”. Those are some classic records.

they remind me more of old Mastodon if anything. still pretty decent stuff though.

The wank is just what I like about Neurosis, thank you very much.

You said it, Conor. I’ll take Neurosis “wank” over silly guitar virtuoso wank any day of the week. That said, Ironhorse sounds pretty good to me. Love to hear a decent recording.

    Power — check!

    Intensity — check!

Song structure. Um, I said song structure!

Oh well, two outta three ain’t bad.

I love it when Dream Theatre fans call out ISIS on ‘wank’.

    oh right…Neurosis, too.

And, agreed, “Through Silver in Blood” is a must-own.

Honestly, Ironhorse sounds like a mediocre Irepress.

Oh, and yeah, I still can’t believe Vince and Axl don’t like Neurosis.

@Sammy: Agreed, but post-metal never has been one for catchy songs.

  • the bloat

you’ve got to remember, these clowns give wayyy too much press to garbage like god forbid anyhow. screw you vince.

  • stamp it

irepress? you can’t compare them to irepress, two completely different styles of music. the only similarity is that there are no vocals

This band sounds like a cross between Isis, Pelican and the Melvins. It sounds nothing like Neurosis. Actually this band doesn’t come anywhere near the bands I just mentioned. Except no substitutes.
