Well if the comments can create a good dialogue beyond X Sucks! No X rules! they might be worth something.

So, tell me – what prog bands do you like that can’t be accused of pretentious wankery?

Perhaps I’ll learn about some good bands that I’ve overlooked while playing O:M over and over again.

Well Robert, I don’t believe I called prog pretentious wankery, I called Queensryche pretentious wankery. I like a good deal of prog actually, but seeing as how our opinions are like the proverbial asshole, we’re all wasting our time here, aren’t we?

In fact, let’s petition to have the comments field totally removed from the site. That should fix the pesky “people expressing their opinion” problem we’ve got going on here.

One man’s pretentious wankery is another man’s DI5. I think in general calling prog pretentious wankery is dumbass – you like it or you don’t. Unless you run Metalsucks, your opinion is pretty much like your asshole.

I think you’ll figure that out for yourself.

Personally, I’ve loved Queensryche from the first listen of this CD back in…87? 88? Whatever. Among my favorite bands…

…but I admit that Operation Mindcrime II was a letdown.

My comment should have read: “Hell, I’ll go so far as to say it isn’t even in the top five concept albums of the last twenty-one years.”

Even though I already outed myself as a Priest fan, I suppose it’s possible that I only started listening to them after the arbitrary year of 2001. Sammy, you are so astute.

Oh, prog metal and your goddamn concept albums. Not that I’m defending Nostradamus, which is a bit of a let down for this Priest fan, but come on, Operation: Mindcrime? If I were to write a book, or even a paragraph about how to do a concept album, Queensryche would easily fall into the “Don’t” category. This is likely due to the fact that I fucking hate Queensryche, but really, it’s the fact that it’s so literal. If I wanted the story like that, I’d read a book. Or just the lyrics. And I’d get to skip out on all the Queensryche cheesedickery.
