MORE METALLICA STUDIO FOOTAGE TO ARGUE ABOUT

Monday, July 7th, 2008 at 12:52pm by

This one shows Lars instructing the recording engineer to digitally move a guitar note he doesn’t like. Hmm… Maybe Trivium is influencing Metallica this time around? Of all possible mindfucks…

This is a non-issue. Who gives a shit how the guitar note gets moved? It’s not like they generated the note with GarageBand….Kirk or James played it. So they move it around digitally…big deal.

I don’t give two shits how they make it happen..if the album’s good ,the album’s good. They’ll be able to play any of this stuff live, so who cares…..

Isn’t is Rick Rubin’s job to “move” notes around?

  • matt

Isn’t it anyone but Lars’ job to move notes around?

  • Erin Carter

Rick Rubin doesnt seem to be very hands on these days, I have read alot about him more or less producing through the mail alot of times without any major amount of direct studio time….seems like a pretty easy way to get the mega huge paychecks from some of these high profile albums his name goes on. dont get me wrong, most things with his name on it end up sounding good from a production standpoint but I think he is getting just as far these days off of his name as he is with his magic ears in the studio.

  • Sean

My thoughts exactly Wayne. A total non-issue. +1

Not a “high not kind of guy”? Well, I’m not a Metallica kind of guy.

@Wayne: I guess you aren’t a musician. Whether people like Lars still are is a similar matter, but I pass that torch to future commenters.

Idon’t see anything important here. It’s just studio stuff, every band on earth with a serious, expensive studio has done it. In the old days, they would had Randy Staub or any other skilled studio guy doing a cut-and-paste with the master tape to get the things done the way Lars wanted. He’s resposable in big part for everything great Metallica has done….and also the terrible things too.

Metallica studio footage; The cure for insomnia.

  • Kevin

This is a complete non issue as others have said, but it’s prob a slow news day and the guys decided to return to the most cliche of all metal pastimes, metallica bashing. Nice.

  • Joe

Is it just me, or is the audio not in synch with the video?

  • Joe A.

Why in the hell is Lars screwing around with James and Kirks guitar parts.

“…. I don’t like high notes”. What the fuck is that about?

Well, that video sucked! I want my 1.21 minutes back!

  • Blah

Remember this shit is from, at the latest the start of the year, the shit probably sounds completly different by now.

I’d do coke with Lars, the guy seems like he’d make a great night out. Even if he is a homeless dwarf.

  • Sammy

@ Blah: You ignorant oaf. Lars is NOT a homeless dwarf. He’s a Danish dwarf.

@ Sammy: Lars is NOT a Danish Dwarf. He’s a Cheese Danish.

  • Jim

@ Bastard: Lars is not a Cheese Danish. He’s a Cheesefuck.

    @ Conor

As a matter of fact, I AM a musician. Drums and guitar. (and this matters, why?) Wanna know what I’m NOT? Someone who watches a one minute, 21 second video with no context and make value judgements of the whole. Don’t make assumptions about me just because I’m not blindly jumping on the Fuck Metallica bandwagon, Fucktard. Lars was trying to tweak ONE note, not generating the entire thing out of blips and bleeps. It’s called tweaking. Would you rather they just play the entire thing over, so they can delay the album coming out, and deny you the pleasure of pointing out that one note that was changed with a newfangled computer and telling anyone who will listen that you won’t be fooled?

@ Wayne: Conor is NOT a Fucktard, he’s a Leotard.
Oh, shit – I’m taking this way too far now.
