THE GYM CLASS HEROES COVERING LAMB OF GOD AT WARPED TOUR

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 at 3:52pm by Vince Neilstein

Fall Out Boy covering Pantera, part deux: at a Warped Tour show recently, emo/pop/whatever tween sensations Gym Class Heroes played about a minute and a half of Lamb of God’s “Laid to Rest.” Somehow I think this actually might be kind of cool; everyone knows the chorus to “Walk” thanks to the corporate sodomization of Dimebag’s death, but Lamb of God? A bit more obscure, despite the Guitar Hero nod. Proof: the utter silence in the audience. Beautiful. Gym Class Heroes just earned some serious cred.

  1. I think they need a little more wah….

  2. 36Thoughtless says:

Weird as it may sound, I respect them for pulling that. Someone in the video even threw a drink at them.

  3. Kye says:

I saw these guys back when they toured with He is Legend right before their first cd came out and they made a lot of their songs heavier during the performance. Hell, some of their early demo material(which they performed live at that show) has screaming in it.

Their second cd didn’t even kind of live up to the first…and the whole Decaydence/Pete Wentz way of over promoting and destroying the credibility of any band he touches(Four Year Strong) hurt these guys, but their first cd will always have a wonderful little place in my collection.

  4. metalanus says:

DUDE, i saw this shit in KC.
    I was fucking pissed off.
BUT, minor props for trying. [and failing]

  5. 36Thoughtless says:

Metalanus: So your tastes are “legit” enough to bash this performance, but not enough to avoid Warped Tour like the plague?

  6. Gibbo says:

I like Gym Class Heroes (I listen to lots of music) and apart from the lack of proper distortion, I was impressed by Travis (the singer)’s scream, which I didn’t think he had in him.

All in all, impressed, really impressed <3

  7. hornet09 says:

i still dont like Gym Class Heroes

  8. Tommy Leebowitz says:

Ballsy move, but still a failed attempt in my opinion.

  9. Dr J says:

It’s cool to see they’re well versed in music, and honestly, even though i would never buy an album of theirs, when i would hear them on the radio it always kind of caught my attention somewhat.

  10. kudos for doing it. i hadn’t known about the Fall Out Boy thing until i saw this and you linked it… and i have to correct one thing about FOB, they actually ALL used to be in metal and hardcore bands. [they got tired of being poor]. in fact, drummer Andrew used to drum for an AMAZINGLY HEAVY band called Racetraitor, and Pete can often be seen wearing a BANE hoodie [of course, not so much now that he is pretty, but a lot of old photos and videos].

  11. bob fossil says:

obviously they have guitar hero 2 on the tour bus

  12. jesse says:

I’ve never heard these guys, and I probably never will. And that was about as shitty as a cover can get (right up there with Cemetery Gates). But I do have to say, the fact that they played it, and the fact that it pissed a lot of people off at a tour that’s existence alone pisses me off made for some positive feelings toward it from me.

    @thedoomsdaybroadcast

That just solidifies the face that hardcore kids are posers who listen to/play bullshit music as a way to not seem as gay as they really are.

/I apologize for the b-mouth like remark. But what can I say? I can’t stand hardcore(excluding REAL hardcore i.e. Full Blown Chaos, Hatebreed, Agnostic Front etc.).

“Metalanus: So your tastes are “legit” enough to bash this performance, but not enough to avoid Warped Tour like the plague?”

    3 Words shit head:

    PROTEST THE HERO

  14. ThePimento says:

Um, that guitarist SUCKS. If I would’ve been in Lamb of God and seen this, I would’ve jumped up on stage, broken his guitar and told him to never pick up another guitar.

  15. 36Thoughtless says:

    “3 Words shit head:

    PROTEST THE HERO”

Touche, but it would still take more than PTH to coax me into buying tickets.

  16. Master of Puppies says:

I’m going to warped this weekend because Protest the Hero, Every Time I Die, and fucking Dillinger Escape Plan are playing. Not to mention a few really good bands who aren’t metal.

  17. metalAC13 says:

Wow, I’ll give them props for trying it, but seriously the guitarist was HORRIBLE. I cringed pretty much every second. (and I’m not some metal elitist–it just sucked IMO).

Though it was funny as hell that the crowd has no clue what’s going on or what they are playing.

  18. 36Thoughtless says:

“…because Protest the Hero, Every Time I Die, and fucking Dillinger Escape Plan are playing.”

Okay, then I’d probably go. I was under the impression that Warped Tour was basically AP’s Bitches R’ Us.

  19. miffdux says:

Any word on the Wall of Death?

  20. kconcord says:

They did this in SF. It was awkward.

  21. Danny says:

    Props, it sucked, but props.

  22. Elpants says:

Wow…I’m gunna go ahead and call gay on this one.

  23. NuMallCore Pwns YoMama says:

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

  24. CarlThomas says:

Since when does playing a shitty song from an awful groovemetalcore band that has long overstayed its welcome, no matter how likable its band members are, mean anything?

I’d love for any of the brandead denizens of the internets mainstream metal machine to develop perspective.

OMG HOW DARE THEY BUTCHER A SHITTY SONG
OMG, THEY’RE APPARENTLY COOLER FOR HAVING LEARNED SAID SHITTY SONG
OMG LETS HARP ON ROADRUNNER RECORDS CONSIDERING HOW MUCH OTHER SHIT IS GOING ON IN MUSIC, ESPECIALLY METAL

This blog provides me with laughs DAILY. Tanks.

  25. Scary Mary says:

These fuckers are gay, they totally slayed that song I hope they get hit by a bus

  26. Nick says:

I really wish I didn’t play that. The guitar is awful. It sounded pretty terrible.

  27. Jake says:

to any one who takes offense to not so heavy bands covering heavy bands songs for fun you guys need to take a step back and realize this is rock and roll its the goofiest music around so to all the scene police have fun bitching about a some dudes covering a song for a good time

  28. manny says:

the guitarist should consider taking the hams off his hands before playing that song. That absolutely sucked and it’s not a hard song to play for anyone who’s practiced more than 5 hours in their life.

  29. Wayne says:

I respect the effort, but they don’t have the chops.

  30. haha… what? *confused look on face*

  31. Factor says:

They’re a hip-hop/emo group, they’re not trying to sound like LOG, and they don’t have close to the right equiptment up there to do it. They’re just having fun with a great song. The Fall Out Boy was pretty silly though.

  32. SickSixSeth says:

    that sucked

  33. iambatman336 says:

This goes out to NuMallCore Pwns YoMama how can you even say Laid to Rest and Lamb of God are shitty they are probably the best metal band around and very few people will disagree with me im not disagreeing with you about how shitty of a cover that was it fucking sucked and they should probably go with Fall Out Boy to kill them selves for that but come on Lamb of God they have pit out 3 cds another as Burn the Priest and a live cd and they have yet to put out a bad one so heres what i say to you FUCK YOU

  34. iambatman: periods, commas and other various forms of punctuation are your friend

And lamb of god is not the best band around and they are nowhere close

  35. Dave says:

that made me want to vomit..someone please tell them to never do that again.

  36. Joe A. says:

One of the worst guitar tones ever by these guys!

Not impressed. When they do a Venom or King Diamond cover, then I’ll be impressed.

  37. you know at least they aknowledge good metal. yea i hate all of their music and this version really doesnt give the song its credit that it deserves but at least they like this type of metal. and plus they made all of those people mad which is good enough to play the song. i love LoG and i hate this band and this version but i give them props none the less

  38. Richaod says:

I still think Madonna playing Pantera was better. :P

  39. jesse says:

    @CarlThomas

groovemetalcore? That classification/word alone is about as ignorant as it gets. Lamb of God is just metal. They may have a groove to them, but lets face it, they have an obvious Pantera influence. They deserve a shit load of credit for the kind of sound they’ve created and the countless bands they’ve influenced.

I’m not saying you should like them, I just think your opinion of them sucks.

  40. It’s pretty damn obvious those guys (GCH) are just having fun and are in no way serious about that cover.
As for LoG, it was acceptable for me to listen to them 4 years ago when I was 16. They’ve been sounding more and more like Pantera, ergo – progressively worse with every album.

  41. hegster says:

    ““3 Words shit head:

    PROTEST THE HERO”

Touche, but it would still take more than PTH to coax me into buying tickets.”

    okay here’s a few more,

    THE BRONX

    EVERY TIME I DIE

    and who could forget

    MC CHRIS

  42. hegster says:

i think its a very groovy thing, breaking down musical borders. it was a decent cover, and they did it in their own style. i highly suspect they’re just a bunch of GHII fans, but then again they could just be actual fans and figured that enough people would recognize the song to not comlpetely alientate their audience.

    pop bands covering metal songs.
    metal bands covering pop songs.
justice remixing “master of puppets” with “ttthhheee party”.

its a beautiful world we live in.
now excuse me while i go withdraw all my savings from the bank and them inside a mattress.

  43. aarsdam says:

everyone went nuts when gym class launched into laid to rest in miami…biggest mosh of the day — it completely amped up their set

  44. Kenzie says:

    Lamb of God sucks.
Whoever thinks they are badasses for covering lamb of god can suck the dick of emo core. Fuckin wussy’s. It’s funny how people will say fall out boy is gay but “have respect for them” if they cover a lamb of god song.

fall out boy does’t even deserve to have a place on metalsucks but obviously they will never go away…

  45. chris says:

    wow worst fucking cover ever

  46. “…because Protest the Hero, Every Time I Die, and fucking Dillinger Escape Plan are playing.”

let’s also not forget that The Human Abstract is playing!

  47. Will says:

“everyone went nuts when gym class launched into laid to rest in miami…biggest mosh of the day — it completely amped up their set”

    HAHAHAHA THAT is funny.

    gym class heroes… moshing… LOL!

  48. cherish says:

gym class hereos and lamb of god both suck horribly anyways, so it doesnt matter.

  49. S.A.M.E says:

    He Is Legend-Stellar!
    Protest – FUCKING GNARLY!
Lamb of godd………. Well that pretty much sums it up.
The human abstract… good, but could probably do better.
Some of these bands I don’t even know. But
I think the Warped Tour is awesome and I don’t know why so many douche bags are complaining about it being totally mainstream…. Right.

I doubt it was that big of a mosh… so…. I guess Miami sucks.

  50. Brad says:

whoever was trashing people for going to warped tour, Protest the Hero and The Human Abstract both performed, and both are awesome bands

  51. eric says:

if you dont like lamb of god FUCK YOU i hope you die a slow painful death, i give them credit for trying i like the scream guitar sucked really bad

  52. mac says:

Holy fuck metal elitists are assholes

Metal is possibly the worst genre of music ever “invented”, it’s up there with.. actually nope, i can’t think of a worse genre

    fail

  53. balls says:

    wow. worst shit ever.

  54. LoG rules says:

i agree with balls. this is terrible. and to mac. eat shit. eat a big bag of SHIT. metal is the only genre that requires all aspects of a band to have talent, and oh, wait, there music actually has a MESSAGE. go listen to your shitty rap and die.

  55. do i need to be writing this? says:

the vocals might have been cool.

    the music sucked, big time.

hed(pe) could have pulled it off easily and heavily. (in the style that this band were going for)

  56. do i need to be writing this? says:

but hed(pe) wouldnt stoop to playing lamb of god … because lamb of god suck…. big time.

  57. Keith Al Shareef says:

Actually, it wasn’t that bad. Since they took it as a joke, maybe you guys should, too. I’m not discussin it, I’ll just laugh and give them some props for having the balls to do that.

  58. Cosk says:

I hope the girl in about the middle who was like “oh my god” all bitch like… dies.

  59. Randy Blythe says:

These faggots need to die.. Fuck Your Emo Music!
