THE SHOWDOWN DEBUT NEW SONG, NEW MUSCLE T’S

the showdown

I was a big fan of The Showdown’s late-2006 release Temptation Come My Way, a southern-infused steamroller of an ’80s metal-influenced hard rock record. Judging by the band’s new song “Achilles The Backbreaker” — from their new record Back Breaker, to be released August 19th on Solid State — the band hasn’t dropped their ’80s influence at all, but has moved on from Ratt and Crue-infused riffage to Metallica and Exodus pummeling. No kidding. But this isn’t close to yet another entry in the current re-Thrash trend. Heavier riffs, double-bass pummeling, more screaming vocals. It still sounds distinctly modern and distinctly Showdown. It’s the same band (minus one member), just heavier… Which is a fucking awesome thing if you ask me.

Listen to the new track on The Showdown’s MySpace page. I am officially excited about this record.

Wow, another Christian band you actually like.

I’ve been excited for this record ever since I heard they were coming out with a new record. The Showdown have been one of my favorite bands ever since I met them at 2007’s Ozzfest.

Temptation Come My Way was a shit album compared to A Chorus Of Obliteration…I’m glad to see their getting back to what made them great rather than what made them acceptable…

  5. Rockett says:

Good riffage, vocals a bit sucky.

The Showdown always seem to make albums that would have been good 2 minutes ago. They don’t really have an underlying theme themselves, and have like no loyalty to their sound.

  6. Johnny Ringo says:

temptation come my way was fucking garbage but their first album a chorus of obliteration is one of the coolest metal records of the 20th century i’ve ever heard

What’s with that album cover? It looks like an ad for a product you can buy exclusively at GNC.
