The show was not cut short because of anything to do with Jucifer. I know because I drove 4 hours to see them, expecting a normal headliner set time, and barely saw half the set, so when it was over waaay too soon I went to the bar and said WTF??? Turns out the club had rented the room out starting at 11 PM for a private party or something. I found out from the sound guy who also told me that Jucifer graciously scaled down their amps and gave up their sound check to leave more room and time for the show, which started bands at like 3 or 4 in the afternoon (!) and still ran so fucking late that Jucifer AND their fans got screwed. Oh yes we got screwed. Not only was the sound bad (beyond the whiners who just hate loudness and expetimentation) but half the people coming to see them were outside just showing up as the band was loading out.

Okay so I’m one of their fans, and I’m one of those who “gets” their recordings and their live show. I can tell you based on that and seeing them 6 times, they are a fuck of a lot more interesting than any other band I know. Yeah their show feels like being attacked, why the fuck does any so called metal fan want anything less?? As far as them not playing music or more than one chord, I know it’s hard to hear distinction if you’re the moron not wearing ear plugs and standing in a bass pocket, but that chick’s hands are all over the neck. And the drummer plays blast beats with no double bass, besides hitting harder than anyone on the planet and jumping up and down between hits.

A lot of people will never appreciate all of this and that’s fine, but I will never miss any show I can get to of this band, even in a shitty sounding room they blow all the other paint-by-numbers bands away in my opinion. Oh yeah, if you don’t like loud music don’t go to shows. WTF? HUMANS SUCK.

Swans was doing that “wall of noise” thing more than 20 years ago, and people have reported vomiting at their shows because of the extreme decibel levels.

Their live show is COMPLETELY different from their recorded sound. I’ve seen them live 3-4 times, and throughout the set, I would hear a riff and go, “Oh it’s THAT song!” Everything is sped up and it’s a wall of noise.

My band actually opened for them a long time ago, and because they have so many goddamn cabinets (felt like 40), we were the lucky ones who got to help them unload. :)

I love Jucifer’s albums. They’re great. The songs are beautifully constructed and layered, but I just don’t get the live show.

Best way to wear earplugs is to cut them in half and stick them in loosely, just to take off the top end that causes the most damage to the ear drum.

As for Erik never wearing earplugs and being 33, just wait ’til you’re 53. Hearing damage is cumulative. It’ll catch up to you and you’ll wish you’d protected your ears. That ringing (tinnitus) will hit you and never leave.

most venues even sell earplugs at the merch tables… anything to get that extra dollar out of the customer… if it’s too loud go get a pair and put them on…simple as that… don’t be embarressed that you look silly with thingies sticking out of your ears.. and as for the whole wall out noise thing.. basically everything gets drowned out and the show sounds like shit, even if shit is what you’re aiming for… it sounds like shit complared to the desired shit.

There could be more to it then we know.. it could simply be that the club was short the money to pay and pulled the plug on the band, negating any chance of having to pay them.. but who knows…

So this band’s gimmick is playing eardrum burstingly loud, but they wear earplugs??? If that’s the case, they’re poseurs.

I never wear earplugs. I’m 33 and my hearing is fine. If a show sounds like noise because someone is trying to impress the audience w/ sheer volume, I leave. I don’t have time for that racket.

Is it just me, or does anyone find it strange how people feel content in saying ‘Being a wall of Noise is kinda their thing’ like its no big deal.

I simply dont understand why people would pay to listen to Noise. What is music for? What is it about? Does anyone honestly think its ‘Cool’ for a band to turn their amps as loud as possible and play undesiferable music?

Is anyone with me on this? If I go to a show, it better be a show where I can figure out what is going on, to listen to something that is pleasing to the ears, not something that will rape them.

Anyone have a report from the PAID show at the Knitting Factory? The Jucifer show referenced above was free, so I would imagine that had a little bit to do with Europa’s decision making process.

Jucifer is looooud, and anyone who goes to Europa knows that the heavy bands that play there ALWAYS complain about too little volume. Matt Pike did when I saw him there, so did his ex-bandmate Al Cisneros and Om, Harvey Milk, lots of dudes…

Jucifer probably cranked it the f up and they hated that.

um, yeah… I am not really a fan but, Jucifer is ALWAYS a wall fo noise. that IS the point. They are the loudest band i have ever seen this side of TODAY IS THE DAY. this guy saw that they are signed to Relapse and was expecting someone that sounds like Regurgitated or Bongzilla. You can no long judge a band by what label they are signed to. Roadrunner has Nickelback & rap artists.

Wear earplugs! its a necessity unless you want your ears to crap out on you by the time you hit 25. A good sound guy should have the confidence to tell a band to turn down if it is in the bands interest, because often its hard to tell from the stage how things are out front they should work with the band.

Case in point Khanate and Cursed two loud as fuck bands saw both in manchester at different venues and both were LOUD but both still sounded fantastic. Often its an arrogance thing either on part of the band or the sound guy!
