LET THE GREAT DEBATE OVER WINDS OF PLAGUE BEGIN!

There are really only two things I know about Winds of Plague:

  1. Their hot chick keyboard player was briefly the hot chick keyboard player in Abigail Williams before Abigail Williams’ original hot chick keyboard player returned to that band.
  2. No one can ever refer to them simply by their initials, as it is so fashionable to do these days, without risking the wrath of angry Italian metalheads everywhere.

Still, as soon as I saw Winds of Plague’s new (“Banned by MTV!”) video for “The Impaler,” I knew I had to post it; I actually think the song is decent-if-generic deathcore (and surely some of you will hate them for that alone), but the lead singer doesn’t seem to be doing the whole white-hip-hop-dude thing with any sense of irony (then again, neither are the fellas in Despised Icon and I still really like that band, so…), and, well, Vince and I really really really like watching you guys argue in our comments section. So watch the video and then weigh in below.

    Ok I know everyone on here is gonna hate on Winds of Plague. I bought this cd after listening to some tracks on myspace. The cd is a fucking good listen. They are not All Shall Perish quality by any means but they are good. This whole “deathcore” shit is ridiculous. Just because a band plays heavy music and has a breakdown they have a “core” at the end of their name. Whether they have a breakdown or not shouldnt put a band into a certain genre. Lamb of God have breakdowns in certain songs like “walk with me in hell” but noone tags them as “metalcore”. If you love metal no matter what the subgenre is give their cd a full listen through before you make a judgement.

    Winds of Plague has been around for a while now. I’ve known them since they were Bleak December. But man this video was pretty cheesy. The whole CG of the severed heads and skulls was very lame. But I think if they would’ve just had the keyboard player alone for the whole video it would’ve been amazing. Simply amazing. But none the less. It’s a pretty dope jam. “A Cold Day in Hell” Was a better album.

    So why was this banned on MTV? I’ve seen a shit ton worse on that channel.

    ok. I think this video of definitely tongue in cheek. The money floating in the air??? They are forsure joking around and having fun with metalheads who hate on the rap genre. To be completely honest I went through the hip-hop phase back in the day and I love metal that has those heavy beats. I know it looks weird the way these guys are dancing to the music but its actually pretty cool to have that decent heavy rhythm going on…not that theres anything wrong with pure headbang mayhem either…

    I could stare at Kristen Randall all day, but I really don’t enjoy the band’s music at all. Decimate the Weak was a mediocre album in my opinion.

    The video is quite boring and doesn’t come off as a spoof but rather a tribute for hip-hop. The music? Not my cup of tea, too generic, yet I like the vocals as long as I don’t look at the singer in the video.

    The video: IMO it’s stupid. I’m not sure whether they’re spoofing or not or being ironic or paying tribute both parts of the video are very lame: the wigger hip hop part, and the CGI scenes are cheezy.

    this reminds me that shity last video of Emmure. but there is something to be said: for a lot of people if a video is good, the song and the group is good…but if an excelent band, makes a bad one, the band sucks, am I wrong? that’s why we should not mix opinions about music and videos…. these are two very different topics that should be analized per separated… I hate this video, but the music is not bad at all. I like the melody….now, if you want to see a good and simple video, check out One Way Mirror’ last one….sorry for my english

    I don’t see why everyone is dissing on them. Their a great band. One of the only bands I’ve ever scene play deathcore in standard tuning ( they use barres on the bottom strings to get the 5th and 3rd of a power chord played in Drop a, which is actually quite smart. Kind of like a 7 string guitar part without the 7th string.). and musically, their quite talented. they actually have solos, not just some tremelo picking with some ocassional breakdowns *cough*Suicide Silence*cough*(which is funny, because I like SS too, lol). But as far as music goes, their definately not your run of the mill and are quite unique for their genre, even if you ignorant fucktards can’t tell the different.

    WoP is really good imo…my buddy pushed them on me b/c I refused to give them a shot from what I saw they just looked another shitty “core” band tryin to be real metal. I listened I liked then i saw the videos and well he’s just an idiot that’s all there is to it, I’ll just never go to a show unless there’s someone else i wanna see i guess. I’d like to think he was joking but I really dont think he is.

What are you wanting from bands I mean I thought it couldnt get too much different but they sure went over and beyond I mean they have epic Keyboard parts even makes you feel like your on the setting they set like their album “The Great Stone War”
