WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OF AKIMBO?

Kip has been raving about Seattle’s Akimbo to me pretty much since we met one drunken night at a Mastodon show in the bowels of New Jersey, and with a new album on the way (Jersey Shores, September 23rd on Neurot) and the spate of press releases that accompany said album, I finally decided to give ‘em a shot.
And I like. What I’m hearing is a blend of stoner rock/metal ala Mastodon/Isis/Neurosis, but with an extra emphasis on being bluesy and rocking the fuck out. Like, imagine those bands but way less serious and introspective and way more FUN. A stonier Bronx, if you will.

I’ve heard one song from these guys (on Pandora Radio – I highly recommend it if you haven’t tried it), and I think it’s fuckin awesome. Listening to their MySpace now.

These guys have consistently been putting amazing albums every year for the past 10 years, I’m not sure if anyone outside of the Seattle are has heard much of their other stuff, but definitely check out their whole catalog, its all pretty damn amazing.
I really like these guys; checked out “Jersey Shores” after seeing many good reviews and dug it. Being an ignorant New Yorker, I thought this Seattle band was somewhat “new;” but I now know that I am a moron, and I have a lot of Akimbo back-catalog to check out. You can’t blame me too much..unless I’m out of the loop, I don’t there has been much national press on this band before “Jersey Shores.” Either way, good band, good look MS.
yeah these guys have been around for quite a while. like 5 or 6 full lengths while. I dont have the first one, called “harshing your mellow” or the split with Teen Cthulu, but I have most everything else.
Elephantine, City of The Stars, Forging steel and laying stone are all really good. navigating the bronze too.
pick them up. they rule.
