LAMB OF GOD BLOW OFF METALLICA, HEAD BACK INTO THE STUDIO?
Monday, July 28th, 2008 at 3:30pm by Axl RosenbergAnyone fearing that Lamb of God’s current hiatus could turn into a full-on break-up can rest easy: Metal Injection’s Metal Nick spoke to Randy Blythe over the weekend at a gig for Randy’s excellent side-project Halo of Locusts, and Blythe reported that the band is heading back into the studio in September – which, presumably, means we’re getting a new LoG offering in ‘09.
More interesting still is this lil’ tidbit:
“[Randy] also mentioned that the band turned down a tour with METALLICA to be able to finish recording this record. Very interesting because METALLICA is usually known for bringing hard rock and nu-metal acts with them (GODSMACK come to mind), so at least they are trying to bring some bands with talent on the road with them!”
I tend to think that Metallica (and by “Metallica,” I mean “Metallica’s handlers”) just book whatever semi-metal acts are trendy at the moment to open for them (e.g., that the members of Metallica themselves don’t know Mastodon from Machine Head from Mudvayne) – but if I was ever gonna mortgage my apartment to pay the ten-trillion dollars to sit in row 8,345,765 and watch Metallica again, Blythe n’ company being on the bill would definitely be a factor.

Not much to say about that… I just hope Metallica doesn’t get Linkin Park instead.
Sweet, Lamb of God is the shit, can’t wait for this new album!
Lamb Of God just did everyone an additional favor by sparing them the expense of feeding the Greedtallica machine.
fuck you u piece of shit u dont know wut ur talking about shut ur dirty mouth
You know, 15 years ago, sure if you were not as big as Metallica it would be great to open for them. But wehen you’ve headlined arenas, having Metallica ask you to open for them is a kind of mediocre kick in the face. Why don’t they ask Avenged 7 fold to open for them like everyone else does. Or how about Trivium, that way you can actually almost see Metallica twice in one night only.
This makes me very excited. After the amazing “Sacrament” record I’m interested to see what these guys come up with next.
Am I the only one that thinks Sacrament was a step down for LoG compared to their earlier work? Don’t get me wrong, I fucking love the album, but in my mind it doesn’t come close to their insane work on new american gospel and ashes of the wake.
brutal and thank you lamb of god for not touring with metallica because i really dont want to sit through that crap to see the great LoG
@ TheCount No I agree with you it was a huge step down for them. I hated that cd only listened to it 1 and 1/2 times and put it down forever. Still listen to Burn the Priest to Ashes Of the Wake but i just can’t listen to Sacrament without cringing.
Bullshit Sacrament was a huge step down. Its not as good as Ashes but its def better than their other two records. Get a fucking clue.
Next headline: LARS ULRICH SUES LAMB OF GOD!
C’mon dude. You are really trying to say that the members of Metallica don’t know Machine Head from Mastadon? They’ve great friends with Machine Head and def like decent metal acts (regardless of wether the “handlers” care, they’re probably just trying to ensure that they can sell out shows in any given US market) You see who is opening for them in Europe? Metallica hand picked Machine Head, The Sword, and Down (for different legs of the tour obviously).
The Sword / Down / Metallica ? Now thats killer.
i love lamb of god but love em or hate em metallica would blow them(insert childish blow job joke here) off the stage and whether or not LOG opens or not would never affect a huge band like metallicas ticket sales.
@Lethal American Hate
I agree. I guess the LOG camp really is that divided. Not to say that I hate the first two, but I definitely prefer the latter two
yea sacrament wasnt their greatest record ever but it has some great songs on there none the less(walk with me in hell, pathetic) yea the classics are on the older records(now you’ve got something to die for, burning the leaves of autumn) but you have to amidt that it was a great record…i just hope that this one has some great moshing moments but at the same time has those fist in the air lets take over the wordl feelings on it
LOG is big, but not turn down Metallica big. I don’t care what you’re doing, Metallica wants you to share a stage with them, so you do it.
If Metallica were to have Mastodon and Lamb of God open for them on their US tour, that would be a pretty amazing show!
I’m surprised that Metallica havent’t asked Killswitch on tour yet. Don’t get me wrong though, i love Killswitch and i would much rather see them opening instead of trivium or a7x.
In fairness, Ulrich has namechecked The Sword before and they’re taking them out for European dates. Must be a rare exception to the rule though.
As an aside, Ashes Of The Wake never gets old – what a great album.
I admire LOG for being honest enough to say that they would rather be in the studio than trying to boost ticket sales for a lame duck act. Regardless if the new Metallica CD is any good or not, they have pissed off many fans. Those are some shit stains that will be hard to wipe from their faces.
sacrament sucked balls. ashes of the wake was their only decent album. The older ones had some heavy tunes but sounded like they were recorded in a dumpster
@Carter:
I actually like the completely raw sound of Burn the Priest and New American Gospel. I usually don’t like that but in this rare case I fell it adds to the sheer gut-punching brutality of their music. Besides, the band itself has apologized for the low production on NAG, calling it a result of time restrictions and way too much alcohol consumption.
Sacrament was a little too produced for my tastes, too many effects and mixing techniques reduced the power of the music itself. Of course it’s normal, when you have more money and more ability to work with your music in your studio that you wan’t it to sound as crisp and clear as possible so I can’t really give them shit for it. Sacrament is still an awesome album, with some fucking kickass songs like Walk With Me in Hell and Forgotten (lost angels).
@ everyone:
You guys are all fucking crazy. Sacrament was ridiculously good through and through! Sometimes I get so riled up that I throw hed p.e. promo CDs out the windows of the MetalSucks Mansion whilst listening to Sacrament.
Yea I gotta agree, I really don’t know how someone who liked their previous discs could not like Sacrament. Just a killer album, and I think the best Randy’s voice has ever been.
Ashes of the Wake kicks Sacrament’s ass but Sacrament is still an awesome metal album.
I can’t understand why Metallica would want to take out LoG as an opener. I’m old enough to have been a Metallifan since the beginning and Metallica ‘08 would get practically booed off the stage if LoG opened for them now. LoG would get them treated like Ozzy got treated when Metallica opened for him when the Master of Puppets album came out. Have they forgotten their own history or are their egos just that f’in big now?
[...] Lamb of God blew off a Metallica tour to go back into the studio; most of you seemed to agree that that was a pretty good idea. [...]
Mark Morton apparently said on the official message boards this whole “blowing off Metallica” thing wasn’t true. I recall Randy saying in a Metal injection interview that Metallica was like the only band left that he wanted to tour with that he hadn’t already.
Also that whole “metallica only tour with hard rock and nu-metal acts” is bullshit. Obviously no one bothered to see who they toured with for the last couple of years. Down, Machine Head, Trivium, Mastodon, Avenged Sevenfold, The Sword as well as individual headline gigs with all sorts of amazing metal bands. Just seems like a really pathetic excuse to slag off Metallica for no reason other than it might seem trendy “hey look, they’re criticizing a popular band, they’re badass” Yawn.
Metallica fuckin sucks, Ashes beats sacraments ass, And yes..NAG and BTP sound like they were recorded in a dumpster but that does not make them NOT FUCKIN AWSOME…End of story
Metallica has just published the itinerary for their fall headlining tour of the U.S. and Lamb Of God is on the bill throughout December.

Lamb of God SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They can only dream of Metallica’s success.
I think I may just die laughing if at the concert with Metallica coming up if half the audience left after Lamb of God because of the fear of seeing a once loved band fall further from grace by listening to their new destined to fail album.
I just saw the show last night and I assure you that did not happen. It was kind of the other way
around, the crowd doubled after Lamb Of God left. I like both bands and both of them played
killer sets so it was a great show all around.
Metallica is to Ozzy as Log is to Metallica
i think every LOG album has its pros and cons. gospel i think is chris’s best albums, since he uses double kicks in it more frequently than any of the other albums. ashes was in my opinion the best guitar album, and i dont say that just because of the title track alone. sacrament, i think randy experimented his voice and learned that u dont have to be a one toned screamer to sound bad ass. as for wrath, i could throw it in my cd player with the rest of them and wouldnt be able to tell the difference which song was off of which album.
metallicas new album isnt all that bad, i compare it to the black album but nothing prior to that. for true metal heads who absolutely hate metallica, i can see ur point on the whole money hunger thing, but otherwise, id like to see you rock out to the max when ur pushing the age of 50. in my opinion, the best line up that could be put together with metallica included, which will never happen, would be metallica, megadeth, slayer, and anthrax.
i have heard from a few people that those 4 bands might tour together in 2010. im not sure how true it is but all i can say is that would be the tour to end all tours and i would sell vital parts of my anatomy to get tickets.
Lets face it lamb of god did the right thing its like slipknot supporting killswitch lamb of god are to big to be supporting bands and opening when they headline festivals and have worlds biggest mosh pits etc
also im suprised machine head are supporting they are headliners aswell to big to support now
i think its awsome lamb of god is makin another album but to blow off METALLICA to do it is fuckin bullshit! even though metallica (lars) has done some fucked up shit and done some not so kosher albums, ITS STILL FUCKING METALLICA!!! u cant take away the fact that they were and probably still are the best metal band ever. im not sayin all of these newer metal band aren’t good, i like em all. just have some respect cause im sure everyone who is talkin shit about metallica now like them, listened to them when they first came out and listen to them now. im goin to see metallica in the fall and i would love to see lamb of god open for them. i would feel honored if i was in a popular metal band like LOG and was asked to open for metallica.
Awesome shit that metallica would bring Lamb of God out on tour with them, its time to get people exsposed to that type of music .. but as far as im concered if they were to get Killswitch Engage out with em .. that would kick more ass .. i mean Metallica N Killswitch Engage 09 Fall Tour … that would be kick ass
