THE NEW TRIVIUM SONG IS GOOD, WE SWEAR

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008 at 4:47pm by

We still haven’t heard Shogun, the new Trvium album, but we have heard the first three tracks – and they slay. Anyone who felt let down by The Crusade should totally have their faith in the band renewed – it seems like the band really stepped it up for this one.

The opening track from Shogun (and my personal favorite of the three songs we’ve heard), “Kirisute Gomen,” will be avail for free download (for 24 hours only, Slipknot-style) on the Roadrunner Records website starting at midnight on July 31 (That’s midnight EST – e.g., NYC time. Just wanted to make that clear, lest I ever be accused of being geo-centric again). The song is worth your time, I promise. I mean, what do you have to lose? It’s FREE, right?

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go try and find out what the fuck “Kirisute Gomen” means.

  • CrapMcPoopin

Saw this coming a mile away.

  • Kye

“Kirisute Gomen” means “You’re sword fodder”

And holy fucking fuck am I excited for this song

  • Tom

So fuckin psyched for this, especially after hearing how good you guys think it is. I really don’t know what to expect, but I have total faith in Trivium. And for all you douchebags who say Trivium is metal for 12 year olds, apparently you haven’t heard the instrumental track at the end of The Crusade. What an awesomely spectacular riff-fest that song is.

  • Tom

    And that artwork looks sick.

  • Tyler

trivium was my transition band into metal so i started on the crusade record but after i got into other stuff i kind of got out of them and then i heard of their “old” stuff and i kind of got disappointed in my first real metal band so im really stoked about this new album and i pray they get back into their old style and by what you guys are saying they are back so im pretty stoked and have alot of faith in this band

  • marc

Actually the literal translation for Kirisute Gomen is “cut, throw away, pardon”, its what samuria’s called their right. Basically it meant they had the right to kill anyone that was ranked below them. It’s about time Heafy went back to his roots, there is nothing more metal than a samurai.

  • Sammy

Oh Axl, I really was kidding with the EST ego-centric comment.

  • The Metal Nerd

Damn right marc. Samurai, and Knights = METAL. Ive been fairly patient with Trivium, waiting quietly for Matt Heafy to remember/acknowlegde that hes Japanese. Fuckin A. Cant wait. now whos with me in saying we need more samurai metal?

  • The Metal Nerd

And once again Paul Romano knocks it out of the fucking Orbit. Seriously, name a record with his artwork. Tell me said album(s) dont kick ass.

  • http://www.conorschaefer.com/blog/ Conor

@Sammy: Don’t let up on this prick. Egocentric. Stick to your guns. You’re hot.

Why is no one commenting on how deplorably bad this album art is? I can’t stop giggling.

  • Cretain

Just downloaded the track, and it kicks ass!

  • Kye

Well, I significantly like the second half better than the first, which I didn’t think seemed to really go anywhere for awhile.

I was caught off guard by Heafy’s voice, which is different…again. Not that that’s a bad thing. The solo is fucking sweet as well.

  • Tom

Good song…4/5 stars. A little long and repetitive, and as Kye said, doesn’t really seem to go anywhere for a while, but the solo kicks ass! A lot heavier than anything I’ve heard by em before. Which is a good thing.

  • SickSixSeth

Loved the track…got better as it went along. Left me feeling good. That guitar solo was sick…i agree tom.

  • Danny

This is a major improvement from anything off of The Crusade. If the rest of the cd is like this, I will be pleased. Hopefully Trivium have finally found their sound.

I thought it was .. ‘ok’. I mean nothing terrible by any stretch of the imagination.. but it just sounds like theyre trying to cram to many things into one song.. hmmm

  • Sammy

Vocally, Heafy sounds like he’s trying to strike a balance between their earlier stuff and The Crusade. Not sure what that means – possibly that he’s sensitive to criticism? Still developing his own style? After all, what is he, about 22?

The solo is very early Hammett wah pedal stuff followed by very early Flotsam style shred.

At the very least, the song is good enough to make me want to hear more. But then again, I’m one of the dozen that likes The Crusade.

@ amy: Fisher-Price My First Thrash Metal Band

    lol.

someones nervous of getting their mouth fucked by trivium

  • jesse

    @Amy

Although I do love me some Trivium, that was good.

    @Sammy

It is pretty obvious that Matt’s sensitive to criticism. I’ve heard him say in an interview that he doesn’t even like music that involves screaming, which is why he left it out on The Crusade, so why would he bring it back? Whatever though. I’m not gonna complain. Trivium had the misfortune of being way over hyped when they first came out and now they’re trying to pick up the peices after The Crusade(although it was a badass album IMO) didn’t live up to everyone’s expectations.

I would love for Shogun to be a direct mash-up of The Crusade, Ascendency and Ember to Inferno with a few signs of progression thrown in here and there. And judging from Kirisute Gomen, it sounds like they’re going in the right direction.

  • SickSixSeth

I actually can’t stop listening to the track. I hope the rest of the album kicks ass.

  • GREGDOUT

trust me, it will be bad ass

  • Tyler09

This album is going to be 1000000 times better than Crusade im counting down the days

  • Tom

Yeah, I feel bad for the Heafy. Always taking shit from everyone for something or other. Just let the guy fuckin be. He does his job, and he does it WELL, in my opinion. And I too thought The Crusade was badass. That is all.

  • Nate

Hmm, not sure what I think. It is definitely better than The Crusade.

  • attackmole

No. It’s not good. In fact, it kinda sucks. You broke you’re promise.

  • http://plabebob.blogspot.com Plabebob

Yeah I was so happy when I read that :) I first heard Trivium supporting Lamb of God in London & they fucking ruled! All bands are allowed a few dodgy albums aren’t they, I mean how many people are still holding on for Metallica… Can’t wait to hear the new album, here’s hoping it kicks ass.

  • Pez

Oh Matt Heafy. More Hetfield than Hetfield. Metallica, ARE YOU LISTENING?????
    Fucking Sic Track!!

  • Stientie

I’ve freakin got it!!!, the meaning of ”Kirisute Gomen” Check this out:
During the days of samurai, many simply did not want to waste time on meaningless excuses or apologies, so they’d kill the offending party before they had a chance to speak — “Kirisute Gomen”.

  • Predator81

    From Wikipedia

Kiri sute gomen (斬り捨て御免 or 切り捨て御免: literally, “authorisation to cut” or “authorisation to leave” (the body of the victim) is an old Japanese expression dating back to the feudal era right to execute and be excused. Samurai had the right to strike at anyone of a lower class who was compromising their honour.

The expression is still sometimes used in modern day as “I apologise in advance for this one” for the subtle humour in offering what amounts to a unsympathetic apology.

  • Mladen

I like ‘Kirisute Gomen’, as well… and for that matter, I love ‘The Crusade’. Trivium are a very good band as far as I’m concerned; but they do need some time to find their own sound, to define it (again, it’s also kinda cool that they often try something new) – although they’re talented as fuck..!
As for Matt Heafy, he’s truly a smart young man, but he can’t really please everyone (especially since he has some of his own strong beliefs and attitudes; likes and dislikes) and, as a friend of mine said, he can’t really engage himself into a philosophical conversation/debate with the fans during a concert, lol…
Corey might be a ‘wilder’, selfthaught guitarist, but Matt’s playing is much more coherent, meaningful… at least to me. But I’m not saying that Corey’s a bad player – on the contrary.

No band (or an individual musician) has ever been respected by all. And that perfectly natural; and once again, if you ask me, perfectly fine.
