SCOTT WEILAND: STILL A DRUNKEN MESS

When Axl and I went to see the reunited Stone Temple Pilots in New Jersey a couple of months ago, it was nothing short of very disappointing. A wasted Weiland stumbled around the stage all night, mumbled incoherent between-song banter, flubbed lyrics, and generally looked like a mess. The performance was completely lackluster, and Weiland was nothing like the charismatic rock n’ roll frontman he was as recently as last summer with Velvet Revolver. Apparently two months’ time hasn’t changed very much for Weiland, as fan-filmed footage (below) shot in Phoenix last week showcases another embarrassing, drunken mishap.

After launching into opening number “Big Empty,” Weiland staggers backward and falls onto Eric Kretz’s drum kit (look around the 1:20 mark). An audience that was screaming in excitement only a minute before quickly shuts up in disbelief. You can feel the stench of mutual embarrassment in the air, a feeling Axl and I became all too familiar with when we saw the band in New Jersey earlier on the tour.

This entire STP reunion tour has been a disaster, nothing like the triumphant return it was built up to be. The longer this drags on, the more Axl’s “50 Things We Are Not Likely To See” prediction makes him look like a prophet (See #5). It’s sad and depressing to watch it unfold.

Honestly, I couldn’t tell if that was a drunken stagger or just a clumsy miscalculation of how far he’d stepped backward. And the rest of the song’s performance didn’t seem at all like a drunken embarrassment.

That said, as a long time STP fan who has never seen them live (and I lived in San Diego when the first broke from that scene), I am not risking any amount of $ to buy tickets when they come up my city’s way, because frankly, I don’t trust them to be together by then, or Weiland to be sober.

I saw there first show at Rock on the Range, and I love STP. But why the fuck are they still opening with this song!!! Great song but it sucks the entire excitement out of seeing them for the first time!!! It’s a big fuck you to the fans if you ask me.

I think touring with a singer that they know full well is uncapable of putting on a decent show right now is a bigger fuck you to the fans.

Forget all the speculation about who’s going to front Velvet Revolver. WHO’S GONNA REPLACE WEILAND IN STONE TEMPLE PILOTS?!?!

Looked like a drunken stagger to me. Sad.

Masturbations kill? Well… it’d probably be more fun than this show was.

Yet another disappointment from Scott stupid Weiland. We were sitting at the Ampitheatre for about 2 hours before we finally heard STP wouldn’t to be playing. I can only assume Scott had another relapse or whatever it was, it’s bullshit! I’m sick of these kinds of people taking advantage of their fans and completely ruining an entire event!! The ampitheatre should have done their part by telling us the show was cancelled, but they dutifully kept us there to keep us spending money. Whatever, I’m pissed!!
