I’ve loved that clip for so long. I couldn’t be happier that that weak salsa band has finally called it a day.
I happen to like Wolfmother, but ok, people can disagree on that. What I really can’t understand is how this old-fashioned hard rock band ever got the ‘hipster’ label attached. They’re the type of band you’re Uriah Heep loving uncle might love. No, then Mike Patton, one of the actual gods of the arty-farty “I’m so much cooler than you, because I have way more imported Keiji Haino 10″s” crowd…

I have respect for Mike Patton, but I kinda liked Wolfmother. Their songs were catchy, in a Led-Zeppelin-ripoff sort of way.

Mike Patton, while a seriously talented dude and the front man from one of my favorite bands of all time (Faith No More), is a dick.
I’ll never understand how Wolfmother and Mastodon got this ridiculous “hipster” label. There’s nothing hipster about them. That’s like saying Phish is a hippie band. No, sorry, the four guys in Phish are old-school jazz geeks, not hippies.
Hating a band because of a mere section of their fan-base is just dumb.
Most of the kids who listen to Avenged Sevenfold are douchenozzles. Hell, even the band looks like a bunch of douchenozzles. But I still dig ‘em.

Seriously though F.N.M. and Bungle were the only things this guy did that were good I.M.O. Bungle wasnt even great it was just ok. That Fantomas was terrible, Tomahawk was aweful and every other side project he has done has been a joke and he gets exposure because of his name.

I’m a Patton fan-boy 100%, and yes, it is kinda ironic that he’d berating WM for sounding like Zeppelin then himself stated he’s doing Italian 60s pop. But with that project (Mondo Cane) he has completely arranged the songs himself to be played by a 40 piece orchestra… so it’s not like he’s taking credit for writing the songs in the first place.
And as for Fantomas, some people just arent supposed to get it… for those that do, it’s the epitomy of concept music, and metal as f**k.

Wolfmother arent even considered Metal in their home country (australia). Their more over just a shitty hard rock band. I say good riddance to them. Now if we could only get the rest of the so called Hipster metal bands to do the same, we might actually get to have a bit of peice of mind. I have never been that big a Faith No More fan, nor can I do the orchestral thing for long periods, but man that Italian orchestra with Patton fronting it (or middling, if you want to get all semantic) is very entertaining. And his talent is amazing.

This was one of the videos that actually helped me realize Mike Patton is an incredible asshole, he really pushes how much of a dick one person can be.

All they did was show unimaginative wannabes that all you have to do to make it in music is to take some popular songs from some popular bands that existed 20 years ago, mash them together and the masses will gag it down like it’s the next best innovation in music… Come on.
I really don’t understand how it happened… All you have to do is play ‘Woman’ next to the Doors’ ‘Road house blues’ to see what I mean. It’s no great stretch. Then get a singer who can sound like Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin for you young players) and voila.
Hopefully they will clear out some room for bands with real talent.

Seriously, we’ve all heard Led Zeppelin, a million times over, and we’ve heard Wolfmother, a rip off band that imo sucks. You can say Patton was being hypocritical when he said what year is this, but honestly, as I’ve already said, we’ve heard Zeppelin a million times over, but how much 60’s Italian music have you heard. It hasn’t been played, plaguerized to death, and run into the ground.
A part of me wouldn’t hesitate to believe that Mike Patton wasn’t being serious, seeing as he later/earlier on (in the same Rage episode even) said he was a huge fan of the genius that is Wolfmother. Mike Patton is known for confusing and pulling people’s legs out of sheer self amusement.
