THE “BANDS YOU LOVE BUT EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO HATE” THREAD

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 at 1:49pm by Vince Neilstein

Judging by the massive success of last week’s “Bands Everyone Seems to Like But You” thread (almost 200 comments and counting!), I figured we’d try its natural opposite — what are some bands you love but everyone else hates? I’m guessing we’ll see a lot of guilty pleasure mainstream metal acts (i.e. Disturbed, Linkin Park) and perhaps some other randoms.

So, what are the bands you love that everyone else poops on? Let’s try and keep it hard rock / metal bands only.

I’ll go first: Sevendust.

I’m wouldn’t say everyone hates this band but lots of people consider them as just noise:
    Dillinger Escape Plan

  3. Cullen says:

Falconer, Gime vs. Grandeur album in particular.

  4. TJ says:

Not that the band is hated on, but I just don’t think people even give them much of a chance:

    Iced Earth.

One of those awesome metal bands that no one ever talks about…

  5. Walker says:

    Bury your Dead

  6. TJ says:

    A few more:

    As I Lay Dying
Killswitch Engage (although I liked them a lot more in the pre-Howard days)
    Zakk Wylde

  7. Nicole says:

Sometimes, nu metal makes a good throwback :]
Like, Linkin Park, Korn, Deftones, etc.

    All except Limp Bizkit. Haha.

  8. John says:

Mudvayne is my favorite band…and they have been getting a lot of flak lately cuz I guess they are a bit softer now then thye were on LD 5.0 but they are my fav band. Not a big fan of Hellyeah though. As a matter of fact some podcast mother fucker was talking to corey taylor about the new album(yes I am eagerly anticipating that as well) and the interviewers’ like ” Im surprised you went with Dave Fortman he usually does only Rock like Evanscence(suck) and Mudvayne and Coreys like, “Yea well he also did Superjoint”. Just goes to show opinions are like assholes and most of them stink…

  13. TJ says:

    I’ll say it-

    Metallica.

Yup, I know that they haven’t been great since Puppets or Justice.
Doesn’t matter. I still really like the Black Album.

For all the hate they get, I also like Load and, to a lesser extent, Re-load.

Still not much of a fan of St. Anger, but I will patiently await the day Death Magnetic leaks on to the internet…

    Avenged Sevenfold

  17. Rohit says:

    Dragonforce
    Primal Fear
    Metallica
Anthrax (I celebrate their entire catalog damnit!)
    Killswitch Engage
    Korn
    Wolfmother

and plenty of others that I’m sure everybody hates.

  21. RayRay says:

Suicide Silence, Hatebreed, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, As I Lay Dying ( which I think everyone is secretly a fan of considering they sell tons of records). Just to name a few…on the softer side I do like Old Godsmack and old Breaking Benjamin and the first FLAW cd. Maybe because in high school Krock played the shit out of those two bands Idk. I would be very bored listening any of their albums now though.

  22. Tom Willis says:

    Voivod

Overkill(except the shows in the ohio area are well attended, i just don’t know where the people come from)

The Current Sepultura, I like Soulfly and Cavalerra Conspiracy too, but there seems to be a lot of internet hate since Sepultura no longer includes anyone with the last name Cavalerra, Dante was still a great album.

  23. Tom Willis says:

Oh and Therapy? I have no idea why, they have been consistently awesome since day 1.

  24. Martijn says:

    - Post-Justice Metallica. Yes, even St. Anger. But not that S&M thing. That was just lame.
    - Diamond Nights. Generally regarded as posers, I think no band ever got as close as Van Halen in their prime as they did on Popsicle.
    - Bon Jovi. But just Slippery When Wet, New Jersey and some songs on Keep the Faith. I just like catchy songs.
    - Deep Purple with David Coverdale on vocals. ‘Mistreated’ from Live in Europe is actually my favourite DP song

  25. Dave says:

    Rob Zombie
    Bush-era Anthrax over Belladonna
    Black Album-Metallica
    Monster Magnet

  26. Martijn says:

    “Bush-era Anthrax over Belladonna”

    That’s a good one.

I also like a lot of rock ‘n’ roll stuff that is liked by a lot of people, but somehow hated by most metalheads (“These guys can’t even play!”) like Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The Hives, Oblivians, The Cramps & White Stripes.

  27. amy says:

    another vote for nothingface

    oh and Drill

  28. Eric says:

    Black Light Burns

  30. Rohit says:

    Martijn reminded me

Am I the only one that like Metallica S&M?

  31. bkudler says:

    Metallica
Judging by the post above I guess a lot of people hate Wolfmother, but it’s a great guilty pleasure.

  32. Ryan says:

    Underoath
    Black Light Burns
    Nothingface
    Norma Jean
    The Bled

  33. justSomeDude says:

    As others before me,

    Bush era Anthrax over Bellodonna
Load and Re-load (and I do like S&M)
    Soulfly
Roots and post Max Sepultura (but not over early stuff)
    newer Voivod albums

  34. JJ says:

Evanescence. I know in my heart that they’re not metal, but I love em anyways… although they need to put out a new album and I’m getting impatient.

Kittie too. I don’t think people give them enough credit.

  35. Ryan says:

    Forgot about

    Sevendust
    Soulfly
    and the first FLAW album.

  36. JW Gacy says:

I don’t necessarily think the following bands are hated, but their latest albums all got generally poor reviews.

    SYL – The New Black
    Cradle of Filth – Thornography
    Disillusion – Gloria

Seems these are their least popular albums, but my favorites from their respective discographies and I continually throw them into my playlists.

  37. McWeen says:

I don’t know if people hate them on the internet but all my friends and gf hate Dog Fashion Disco.

  38. M. Meyer says:

    KISS
    Winger
    Alcatrazz
    Demoniac
    Earth Crisis
    Def Leppard
    Yngwie Malmsteen

Jeez.. you people have shitty taste in music.

All of those bands are awful.

    Shoot yourselves. In the face.

  40. unperson says:

  41. CarlosRamirez says:

    Shinedown
    Fates Warning
    Leatherwolf
    Staind

    Mastodon
    The Mars Volta

    Primus
    Protest the Hero

  43. matt says:

    story of the year :(

  44. Esteban says:

Avenged Sevenfold (is it wrong to think that City of Evil is a great, and their only good, album?)
Murderdolls ( they sing I Take Drugs, its fuckin hilarious)
System of a Down (I have all their CDs, as well as Serj’s and Scars on Broadway)
and here’s a big one…Lordi (Hard Rock Hallelujah is a catchy mothah fuckah)

  45. carloz says:

    Zao :(

  46. not sure if they’re hated on so much, but I really like
    CKY

    I can’t wait for Deron’s side project
World Under Blood to get an album out.
    IT’S SICK!

  47. Monster Island says:

Avenged Sevenfold – One cannot possibly deny the incredible guitar work on City of Evil. I like the whole discography though.

Cradle of Filth – People whine about Dani, but I love him. So unique.

Protest the Hero – Again, superior musicianship. catchy, hard, sounds like no other

Flower Power CD – A Time Life compilation of psychedelic era tunes. its fucking awesome

  48. tyler09 says:

No one said Trivium? These guys fucking rock

  49. Cisco says:

    Christian Metal.

  50. KyleXY says:

    Bullet for my Valentine

Its not like I don’t know why people hate them, but I really don’t give a shit what anyones says; The Poison was a fucking great record. The new one isn’t too hot though.

  51. Kye says:

Linkin Park, definitely my favorite band

I imagine most people here also hate AFI, tho I’ve never met anyone in person that dislikes them

Hmm…this list could go on a long time

HIM, Story of the Year, Manson, Atreyu, Mudvayne, Papa Roach, Metallica during the Load period, Avenged Sevenfold before City of Evil, Underoath, Shinedown, Hollywood Undead, Cradle of Filth, He is Legend, Evanescence, Dir en Grey, Gackt, lostprophets, 30 Seconds to Mars, A Day to Remember, Bring Me the Horizon, Paramore, Sum 41, Mayhem, In Flames after Clayman, Escape the Fate, Crossfade, Trivium…ok, I’m stopping now

Oh wait, one more, Avril Lavigne. Yup, fuck off :D

  52. Matt says:

    The Sword

  53. noyokono says:

    Institute (Gavin Rossdale’s post-Bush band)

‘Distort Yourself’, their sole album, was produced by Page Hamilton of Helmet and boasted members of Orange 9MM, Rival Schools, and Iceburn. There were some killer tunes on there like “When Animals Attack” and “Come On Over”, and Hamilton managed to transfer his killer guitar tone to the record. WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE WANT?!

  54. Kye says:

So I just noticed the last line at the top about hard rock/metal bands only..sooooo go ahead and ignore like half of my list ^_^

  55. Don. says:

    i REALLY like St. Anger.

  56. RandyxJames says:

I’d say Lamb Of God is still my favorite band, though I haven’t really listened to them in a long time because I’m sick of how popular they’re getting and all of the new fans who think they’re the best. (I know everybody doesn’t hate them, but they get a lot of shit for their popularity)

    other “guilty pleasures”:
    Killswitch Engage
    As I Lay Dying
    Norma Jean
    Coheed & Cambria
    Thrice
    The Fall of Troy
    The Sound of Animals Fighting

    Metallica
    Pre Bush Anthrax
    A7X

  60. Cisco says:

    Himsa
    The Mars Volta

  61. 36Thoughtless says:

As far as metal goes, I can only think of one at the moment: I really enjoy Ion Dissonance. I think they had something good going before most of these deathcore bands sprang into popularity.

As for rock, I really enjoyed Paramore’s “Riot.”
Shinedown is the only hard rock band I can honestly enjoy listening to. Their vocalist is superb.

  62. Angry Geek Girl says:

Def Leppard (On Through the Night and High N’ Dry)
    Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
    Bullet for my Valentine

  63. Hot Carl says:

Most of the Metalcore bands everyone hates (Haste the Day, TDWP, As I lay dying, etc)

Most of the Deathcore bands everyone hates (Suicide Silence, As Blood Runs Black, Winds of Plague)

Pop Hardcore as well (Four Year Strong, A Day To Remember)

Forgive me for I have sinned

  64. fightingmike says:

    Slipknot
    Korn (first two records)
    Rhapsody (in Fire)
    Sonata Arctica

  65. Ryan says:

36Thoughtless’ name reminded me of another band I like…

    36 Crazyfists

  66. fantasyh says:

Actually Linkin Park (the older stuff, the new album sucks)… and Dragonforce.

  67. ChuckNorrisIsGod says:

    Harvey Milk and Hatebreed

  68. bob fossil says:

Got back into death metal (cannibal corpse, deicide, etc) so they wife & friends roll their eyes when i bring up yet another classic from the bleeding!

  69. Brett says:

Cold, Sevendust, Ill Nino, and that Katy Perry song.

  70. FriQue says:

Metallica… I love everything from Kill to Black album. Load sux, ReLoad has a few good riffs and songs (I love Devil’s Dance!) but it still sux. On St. Anger they fucked up the sound of everything. Drums sound like pots, guitars sound like guitars but the sound still sucks ass…

And the second band is Anthrax. I dont know why many people dislike them. Only shitty thing about them is that they are not able to work with one singer for long… I mean they are all good but god damn 4 vocalists? Kinda only thing that’s pissing me off. I love every CD they ever recorder. I love even I’m The Man and Bring The Noise (maybe it’s cuz I enjoy rapcore).

  71. Aaron R A says:

    The Locust
All of Mike Patton’s various projects (Faith No More, Fantomas, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, etc.)
    Genghis Tron
    Coal Chamber

  72. Kye says:

    @Brett I KISSED A GIRL AND I LIKED IIIIITTT

  73. MASTER CHEF says:

SCORPIONS back in their Uli Roth days
The solo in the song Sails Of Charon is the best ever!

  74. Jake says:

Atreyu every one gives a bad rap and calls them pussy’s I fucking love them and I am not some 12 year old scene kid I have been into them since suicide notes and I fucking love there new album

  75. vitruvianApe says:

    I kinda have a thing for the first 2 hed(pe) albums. . . . i know i know
    snot
stuck mojo, those guys helped get me into metal in the early days

  76. choopz says:

cradle of filth, i can’t help it, i’m a life long fan. and underoath… but just cries of the past and act of depression.

  77. Some Dude says:

Crowbar and Norah Jones. They should do a song together ;)

  78. MarsellusWallace says:

Avenged Sevenfold (City of Evil days, the new album does nothing to prove that they AREN’T just another mainstream radio-rock act). What a fantastic show of musicianship and songwriting ability COE showed.

Metallica. I’ve liked every album but the past three, and particularly loved RTL, MOP, and AJFA, the latter being my all-time favorite from the band, despite the low production quality. I mean, every metalhead likes early Metallica, but you shouldn’t disown the band for making a few shitty albums. Respect what they did before and hope they can do it again.

However, my greatest guilty pleasure may be generic metalcore. I’ll admit to having indulged in even the lowest of the genre, sinking to the level of…dare I say…Bullet for My Valentine.

  79. Kalas says:

A Perfect Circle (sorry but I love anything w/ Maynard)
    Deftones
    Hurt
Nonpoint (just a few songs though)

  80. Kathy says:

    Parkway Drive!!!!!!!!!!

  81. FleischBerg says:

Shadows Fall (I have the idea that alot of people don’t like’em)
Ill Nino (this one goes back to my nu-metal days)
    Rammstein

Limp Bizkit, man Chocolate Starfish is just guilty pleasure! With these cool lyrics like for example: I WANNA FUCK YOU LIKE AN ANIMAL!! I Wanna feel YOU from the INSIDE!!! and…..wait a minute! That’s from NIN!!

  82. Chet says:

    Dream Theater
    Rammstein
    Lacuna Coil
    Dream Evil

  83. Cisco says:

    Isis
    Neurosis
    GOD

  84. hackman says:

sevendust is a great pick. before clint left they were one of my favorite bands and i never understood why so many people couldn’t get into it. if you don’t like good catchy song writing i guess its not for you.

another band that people hate in a similar vein is switched, ben schegel’s band, but i liked em for awhile. just because metal isn’t technical doesn’t mean it sucks.

  85. hackman says:

    oh, and nothingface.

  86. Luca5L8 says:

Avenged Sevenfold – Great guitars and great live show
Atreyu – Guilty. Bring back the glam / 80´s

    Ween
    good call on Murderdolls
    To My Surprise
and that other fuckin Crahan band… Rabbit something
    Sound of Urchin

  88. Nick says:

ok, I’m always making comments on this site about how much Thrash Metal rules all of the known universe (and beyond), but I have to come out of the closet (so to speak)… I love Glam. not all of it mind you, but: wasp, Cinderella, Ratt, Poison, and Skid Row, tesla, whitesnake are bands that really rock the “pure rock” part of me like nobody’s business. I know that thrashers are supposed to be in and endless war against glam, but seriously.. I don’t care. Thrash vs Glam isn’t a relevant fight anymore, ok. Thrash won in the end, and is enjoying an incredibly revitalized new wave of radness, whilst glam, outside of rocklahoma, is pretty much a cheesy nostalgia act, with no possible return to its former heights… but It still makes me smile:)

  89. CT says:

aveged sevenfold(and @ estaban city of evil isnt their best, i think waking the fallen is)also

    system of a down

    disturbed (a little bit)

  90. CT says:

also atreyu and slipknot(only slipknot and Iowa)

  91. Noch says:

    CANNIBAL FUCKING CORPSEEEEEEEEEE.

These dudes have been around for twenty years.Yes,their music is about gore, and their sound doesn’t take many different shapes and forms throughout their discography, but what they’ve done has given birth to grindcore the way we know it today.

    FUCKING RECOGNIZE FACT. ;)

  92. banter says:

LEONA LEWIS FUCK HER VOICE MAKES ME WANT TO HAVE SEXY TIME

  93. Paul D says:

I love Wolfmother, and I don’t feel a bit guilty about it.

    2. Devin Townsend’s solo stuff

  97. -gODGRINDER- says:

    Hell Within

  98. SweetnSourInc says:

Old school KoRn, Despised Icon, Oblige and I think In Flames would be a good answer but I kinda’ think they suck now too.

Oh yeah did I really see someone say Unearth? I’ve never heard one bad thing about that band. Their one of my favorites.

  99. Salblis says:

    Cannibal Corpse
    KoЯn
    As I Lay Dying
    Linkin park
    Metallica
    Samael
    Naglfar

Even though KoRn hasn’t really been good since “Take A Look In The Mirror”, and I only care for “Hybrid Theory” when it comes to Linkin Park.

    I liked St.Anger though…

  100. raiseyerfists says:

    The Sword
Genghis Tron (A lotta people like those last two, but none of them are here)
    Creed
    Bury Your Dead
    Megadeth

  101. gamma sperm says:

    JOHNNY TRUANT

no-one has heard of these fuckers and the few that have said they suck

i think they are the saving grace of metal

  102. wtfcentral says:

really…people are putting Neurosis down as a guilty pleasure. Have you heard Neurosis before, or are you throwing their name around in an attempt to seem cool? Fuck, all of these lists lead me to believe this blog is full of shitheads with horrible taste, and retards that think Neurosis sucks. really???? WTF?

  103. I saw John Bush-era Anthrax elsewhere on here, and I’ll second that. Nothing against Belladonna, it’s just kind of a David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar thing, apples and oranges. Waiting to hear what Dan-whats-his-name sounds like. Also post-Countdown Megadeth.
Doesn’t count as a band necessarily, but the virtuoso stuff liike Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Billy Sheehan etc has always been big to me and seems to be getting a lot of hate lately; anyone who can listen to someone who is above and beyond (and by that I mean being able to write a song in addition to having an assload of technical ability) and come up with nothing more than “Okay, we get it, you can play 32,000 notes a second” either has Paris Hilton’s attention-span or doesn’t really get it after all.

  104. Slayer says:

All the first albums of almost every band associated to metal:

Metallica – every album before 1990 (hate everything else that came later)
Slayer – Love every album except Diabolus in Musica
Pantera – Starting from Cowboys and ending at Trendkill
    WASP!!
    Megadeth!!
Sepultura – When Max was there
    Slipknot – First two albums
    36 Crazyfists – First album
    Anthrax – Evrything before 1991

  105. Kjøttøks says:

    “Martijn Says:

    August 5th, 2008 at 2:39 pm

    - Deep Purple with David Coverdale on vocals. ‘Mistreated’ from Live in Europe is actually my favourite DP song”

Is there actually people out there that doesn’t like the Burn album?

And yes I love me some “fake metal” too, like The Sword and Saviours, and if Mastodon is supposed to be gay then I’m Boy George.

  106. NeverStopThis says:

    BloodSimple, NothingFace, Protest The Hero

  107. Muttweiler says:

Dokken and anything George Lynch related even SMOKE THIS!
    Whitesnake
Black Sabbath in the Tony Martin era
Winger: Pull was a kick ass album.
Atreyu: it kind of reminds me of hair metal in some sort of twisted way.
Creed/Alter Bridge: those guys took the all talent and left nothing but Stapp…uh crap?
    Trivium: Ascendancy is the shit!
Killswitch Engage with Howard on vocals!
    Megadeth more than Metallica!
    Evanescence…yeah I said it!

  108. Errol says:

    Jane’s Addiction
    Alter Bridge
    Audioslave

  109. bradican says:

HORSE the band… and I actually enjoyed “Load” from Metallica a bit

  110. Blindside … Amatory … these are greate bands , but I dont know if everybody hates them , but I think nobody have ever heard of them .. also Ill Nino and It Dies Today

  111. Mark Slaughter says:

Slaughter. I can’t wait till they’re in my town. That singer has quite a voice. Go buy tickets now. (I need to pay my mortgage.)

  112. Gossamer Axe says:

    Dimmu Borgir
some 80s hair bands, I grew up in the 80s, it was what we listened to.
Yngwie to me is still god.
Opeth, can’t get enough of them.
Euro Power Metal, it’s so freaking HAPPY!
Megadeth – Love Dave’s caustic sarcasm
Video game music & soundtracks. I didn’t see that on the other list, but I don’t know if metal heads listen to the game tracks for Final Fantasy or Morrowind (or any video game music) or Lord of the Rings soundtracks. Oh and Silent hill too.
Duran Duran, Culture Club, Flock of Seagulls, INXS

  113. Malacoda says:

I second … er, or 3rd Nothingface as well as Light This City and Bloodsimple

  114. The Metal Nerd says:

Guilty Pleasures? Madonna, Britney, Early KoRn, limp bizkit (three dollar bill yall$ only.), Malice Mizer (Before Kami died, Gackt left/broke up with Mana. Kahla is amazing though.) Avenged Sevenfold(pre-city of evil.) Sevendust, Soulfly, Orgy, Ill Nino.

  115. Jay says:

    Monster Magnet
    The Screaming Blue Messiahs
    Tool
    White Zombie
    Static X
    King’s X
    Goatwhore
    Kiss (Ace Frehley era only)
    Metallica (post Justice era)
    High On Fire
    Children Of Bodom
    In Flames
    The Subways
    Protest The Hero

I can’t think of any more, but yeah, out of my friends, I’m by far the metalhead.

  116. dschalek says:

CATARACT and HEAVEN SHALL BURN, the only two good metalcore bands.

  117. earthsherm says:

    filter

  118. canea says:

    Agreed with TJ: Iced Earth!

    Witchery
    In Flames
    Monster Magnet

  119. PD says:

It’s hard for people to hate bands when they’re ones a lot of people haven’t heard of.

    3 Inches of Blood
    Bones Brigade
    Coroner
    Nehemiah
    Prayer for Cleansing
    Paths of Possession

I could just go down my last.fm artists list and name more off but that’d take too much effort.

  120. The Metal Nerd says:

90s Emo: Jawbox, Sunny Day Real Estate, Etc. Any and all math rock like Don Cab, Hella. House Of Pain. Justin Timberlake/any hip hop-pop produced by Timbaland. Metalcore. Avril (my Girlfriend loves her). KottonMouth Kings, blink182, Coal Chamber (why wont Dez sing anymore?).

  121. cpo says:

blind guardian, too soft for the metal, too metal for the soft

  122. J-Ho says:

I’d say Nothingface and Andrew W.K. but those are artists that a lot of people are pretty rabid about.

Tesla and Whitesnake are required listening, if you ask me, so I won’t mention them.

I will say that Byzantine was my favorite band. I totally loved their last two albums and although no one has expressed active dislike of them I certainly think the widespread reaction to them was much more lukewarm than they deserved.

  123. enemyofgod72 says:

@Mcween if you’re a Dog Fashion Disco fan check out Polkadot Cadaver formed from DFD’s ashes. They fuckin’ rock!

    my guilty pleasure:
The White Stripes — I love metal but Icky Thump just sticks in my head and I can’t get it out but in a good way. “You can’t be a pimp and a prostitute too” – now that’s a f’in metal sentiment if I ever heard one!

Also I have to agree with others Bush era Anthrax is my favorite(except Stomp 442! that album sucked some major ass)

  124. Cale McEwan says:

pissing razors fuck they used to shred…..

  125. Sofa King says:

    Will Haven
    Discordance Axis
    See you next tuesday
    Hellnation
    Phobia
    Pigsty

    well…most “grindcore” anyway

  126. linh says:

i knew avenged sevenfold was gunna appear more than once on this thing, but i must agree.
i got mad love for a7x.

  127. Bruce Wayne says:

    DETHKLOK.

  128. Mike Malice says:

    Coal Chamber

  129. Cisco says:

    August Burns Red

  130. Revrant says:

Man you’re such a fucking sheep sometimes Vince, “oh letz put disturd and linkn prk together hur hur hur!”

  131. Billy Milano
    Korn
    Still Remains
    Hatebreed
    Jucifer

  132. Ryan OConnor says:

BLESSED BY A BROKEN HEART! I know Vince and AXL hate this band but I fucking love it. It’s 80’s glam on speed and steroids, sick shredding guitars, great choruses with good screaming parts interjected. I don’t understand how you guys can like Dragonforce and hate on these guys so much. I want to punch the singer from dragonforce in the mouth every damn song sounds so much alike.

    A7X, Atreyu, EUROPE – Best 80’s band

  133. shreddies says:

underoath…so hated by the metal community, I just cant help but love that stuff…

Also anything metal/harcore with lots of screaming/growling gets ripped on by all of my friends and any non-metalhead…they just dont get it

  134. JTL says:

Based on the responses from this board:
Mastodon, The Sword, Dillinger Escape Plan, Jucifer, DragonForce, The Melvins, Diamond Nights, Peelander-Z

I don’t understand how anyone can be down on Anthrax. Favorite song: Startin’ up a posse.

Mike Patton. I have my tickets to ATP in England, and that lineup is beyond incredible. I can’t remember being this excited about a show/festival in a while.

Metallica-everything from Kill’em All to and Black. Metallica got me into metal, and I have forgiven them for everything since. Am I going to buy anything else from them? No.

Basically, if it is fun, I’m in for it.

  135. Weston says:

Gotta include Black Label Society, Nonpoint, and Sevendust.

  136. Metal Lives says:

Im not ashamed in any way of the music i like. It ranges from old Metallica, and early hair bands, to recent Megadeth and Ozzy.
Basically cover the metal spectrum, while leaving out all of the “….core” shit thats so popular.

  137. DShu says:

Seeing Sevendust, Bloodsimple, and Nonpoint on guilty pleasures so much breaks my heart :( favorite bands

  138. Damotello says:

    Killswitch,
Avenged Sevenfold (Waking The Fallen and City Of Evil anyway)
Dillinger Escape Plan, one of my favourite bands at that.

  139. Cosine says:

    Pist.on
They sucked so bad they were good.

  140. Fish says:

No one hates them but damn they are one hell of a guilty pleasure.

    Paramore.

…and I’m in a melodic death metal band

  141. jono says:

a lot of what I listen to isn’t even metal but here goes:
    Choeed and Cambria
    Nine inch Nails
    cky
    rush
    system of a down
    shadows fall
    jack johnson (yes.. that’s right)
    metallica

  142. I forgot to fill this in says:

I’m glad I’m not the only Paramore fan among metal fans.

    Protest the Hero
    As Blood Runs Black
    Nile

Yeah, i dunno. I guess I’m the only metalhead among my friends, so I don’t know what else to say. They hate it all.

  143. Chris says:

    Bleeding Through

  144. RDS says:

    Black Flame
    Daath

  145. matt says:

    korn
    disturbed
    slipknot
cant think of any one else right now

  146. Jason says:

    blood simple
    bury our dead
    ill nino
    horse the band

  147. Anthony says:

    Korn
    Mudvayne
    Slipknot
    Stone Sour
    Disturbed
    Breaking Benjamin
    Three days grace
    10 Years
    Killswitch Engage
    Stone Sour
    Evanescence

  148. large jockstrap says:

motley crue- as if u can hate anything they released pre 1995. (yes i actually like the corabi album… so fucking heavy)

    Mudhoney- most under rated band!

  149. JON says:

system of a down .. .. .. protest the hero .. job for a cowboy

  150. ell says:

Chalk another metal-and-Paramore-lover to the board. Only it’s ok, because I’m a girl. I’m MEANT to like pop and chart punk.

Also everyone seems to hate Slipknot but I can’t figure out why… the fact that a band with so many members has managed to stay together for a decade says a lot. Plus it’s just so awesome and catchy and shit.

Atreyu, even though people who like A7X disgust me.

36 Crazyfists (but only, oddly, RITF)

Also Maroon 5. And Linkin Park (not fucking Minutes though. Or that stuff they did with Jay Z. Shiiiit.) And Evanescence and Spineshank. Like I said – catchy.

Never got into Sepultura though. There, I said it.

  151. CJ says:

I have been made fun of for years for being such a hardcore Atreyu and Slipknot fan so this is awesome! Go Atreyu! Go Slipknot! Now for the rest:

    Bleeding Through
    It Dies Today
    Killswitch Engage
    Underoath
(honestly, pretty much anything anyone else would call “generic whiny metalcore” I love that shit)
And Bullet For My Valentine is awesome.
And Bury Your Dead. They fuckin’ rule.
And I’m not too sure that people hate them, most people I talk to have a lot of respect for them, but Chevelle is badass.
    Story Of The Year
    Avenged Sevenfold!!
All That Remains (mostly The Fall Of Ideals)
    August Burns Red
Comeback Kid fuckin’ rock especially on Broadcasting…
    Demon Hunter
Tenacious D is funny as shit!
Finch (yes even Say Hello To Sunshine)
    Flyleaf
    Saosin
    Sevendust

and I love alot of country music. But I still consider myself a metalhead. I’m told that liking country makes me not metal. Oh well.

  152. \m/Eluveitie\m/ says:

    ALMOST FEMININE/FEMININE VOCALS
Rush – If you can get past the vocals, Lifeson is one heck of a guitarist
Coheed and Cambria – Still not fully convinced the furry Puerto Rican isn’t a woman, but I love CO&CA nonetheless
Flyleaf – Tiny Lacey makes up for lackluster musicianship
3 – The darker cousin of Coheed and Cambria

    PRIDE OF THE MIDWEST
REO Speedwagon – Kevin Cronin’s hair circa 1980 keep these flannel-wearing hard rockers on heavy rotation in my library, keep ridin’ the storm out!
Chevelle – Tool wannabes rock hard, but I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, you gotta be in a Chevelle mood to listen to Chevelle
Head East – Who doesn’t love Head East?? Never Been Any Reason is one of those great songs that comes on the radio and you hear the opening riffs and instantly recognize them…then struggle to place the name of the song until the vocals kick in.

    STONER ROCK
The Sword – Texans think they’re Norsemen and rock out retro style…I really like some of the acoustic parts of Gods of The Earth
Wolfmother – It’s Zeppelin…it’s Black Sabbath…it’s Andrew Stockdale’s white man afro…it’s Wolfmother!! Now a one-man band, hopefully Andy can recruit some new musicians to finish the long-awaited second album. Love their cover of Communication Breakdown

And to top it all off, if wanting the good life is such a crime, Lord then put me away! Here’s to YOU Poison!!

  153. \m/Eluveitie\m/ says:

Another addition…I read someone mentioned Gavin Rossdale and realized I totally forgot Bush!!! I don’t know if any of Gavin Rossdale’s lyrics make any sense outside of his own grungy little mind, but you know what? I got a machine head and it’s better than the rest!

  154. Dan Wolfson says:

    http://www.metalsucks.net/2008/07/31/the-bands-everyone-seems-to-like-but-you-thread/

  156. VFH says:
