RADIO SILENCE!

Sorry for the lack of posting yesterday. Axl and I locked up the gates to the MetalSucks Mansion and hit the wilderness of Long Island for the Rockstar Mayhem Festival, witnessing the fury of 15,000 teens in Slipknot tees and the debut/final performance of the legendary band Ladder Up an Ass (seriously). The good news is we have a ton of interviews for ya’ll with just about every band on the bill… so hang tight as we get those typed up.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming…

Just got back myself. Machine head needed to be on longer

  • Cam

I was iffy about whether I was gonna go to this or not, reading the above comment makes me happy that I decided not to…Machine Head is ridiculous live. I’d sit through them for two hours before I’d even think about seeing Disturbed play for ten minutes.

  • Balthazar

It’s okay guys, we forgive you. Just make up for it with some sweet reviews.

  • http://metalmartyr.com Metalmartyr.com

I went last friday. Didn’t get any interviews, couldn’t find the press people among the swarm of Nu-Metal pants, plus I had my 10 year old with me so I wasn’t oignt to drag him around more than I already was. Great show all together and disturbed put on a good show even though I’m not a fan. Mastodons set was too short as was Machine Heads. Luckily I only had to sit through two songs from Dragonforce. My son wanted to see them play but we were waiting in line to get Mastodon signings and didn’t get to their set until the end.

  • TedTedPoleyPoley

even Disturbed? this i gotta see!

  • http://www.metalsucks.net Axl Rosenberg

@ TTPP: Not Disturbed. They didn’t offer to do an interview and we didn’t ask. We did get to watch them play foosball outside their dressing room as we waited to interview Mastodon, though. In all seriousness, I don’t think a single member of that band is taller than 5 and a half feet.

  • http://metalmartyr.com Metalmartyr.com

I read in the last revolver that David Draiman says he works out 90 minutes to two hours a day…I don’t see it.

Did you drink all the free rockstar energy drink they were offering. I think I had a can or two myself, but it was hot as dog balls and I think I spent more money on water than merch.

  • TedTedPoleyPoley

i am very sad now :’-(

  • Kye

I must say…I haven’t been this excited for a concert in years

    Tuesday can’t come fast enough

  • Revrant

Cam: Oh my sheep ears can’t bear to hear a band I haven’t listened to since 2000, “oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, Tiggerweinman make the pain go away with obscure music. :(”

Axl: Good, fuck, wouldn’t want to see a snide sheep-blather interview on here mocking the band again, you two shits don’t listen to anything they do, so it gets old faster than Mick Jager did, and that’s a feat all it’s own.

As for them being “short”, which is what, an insult from the Roman era o life? You’re a retard, Dan is 6’1″, we’re the same height, I met him, David is short maybe 5’7″, Mike is 5’10″ I think.

Metal: Another lame slight against the band, David works out plenty, as do the other members of the band, and they’re clearly muscular.

What’s that people? Baa baa baa? Thought so.

  • TJ

Rev- I love you man. You’re one of the best reasons to keep checking the site.

Get so mad when someone makes fun of your favorite band that you even have to defend their heights?
Do you happen to know how much each of them weigh? I could have sworn I saw the drummer rocking a bit of a gut last time I saw them…

  • Revrant

TJ: How about insulting things as minor as their height and musculature instead of pointing at me for correcting their idiotic sheep bullshit?

Wait, you can’t, baa baa baa.

  • TJ

Dude, we get it. You like Disturbed. A lot of the people on this site, including the two main writers, don’t. Opinions are just like assholes, everyone has one.

Now excuse me, I need to go listen to some crazy gore-grind that’s gonna make me want to go punch pregnant women in the stomach.

  • http://metalmartyr.com MetalMartyr.com

Rev: I wasn’t poking fun of your buddy, Dave. I was just stating the fact that when I saw him at the show last friday (Which was a good show) he looked like he had a bit of a gut for someone that works out all the time. Dan is a big dude though, quit getting your thong twisted over people hating disturbed.

  • Revrant

TJ: Dude, you don’t, it’s not about liking them, it’s about bullshitting, they’re acting like sheep as opposed to having any kind of real opinion, real opinion; “a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.” it’s not personal, it’s “OH ONE GUY SAID IT NOW I DO OMG”.

You do that, then get some really hot wings and beat off to football, FUCK YES. ;)

Metal: He’s not my buddy, and thanks for saying that you weren’t instead of being a total dick like some people and furthering how idiotic they made themselves look(looking at you Axl), he may have a gut on him now, last I saw him he was really muscular. I’m guessing since his surgery and being in the studio he could have put a little on.

I won’t get it twisted if the fucktards could just form their own opinions instead of becoming the sheep they try so hard to mock.

I just admitted to getting my thong twisted, even worse? Only Dave Attell would know.

  • TJ

Rev- how are we ‘fucktards’ unable to form our own opinion?

I formed my own opinion- I don’t like a band you happen to like. But that’s my choice. I don’t choose to dislike Disturbed because Axl or Vince told me. I choose to dislike Disturbed because my ears don’t enjoy the sounds they hear when I put that band on.

Just because a lot of people on this site don’t seem to like Disturbed doesn’t mean we’re sheep. It just means we don’t like the band.

I don’t like bands just because Axl and Vince tell me to. Scars on Broadway is pretty shitty (see above a few posts), and I don’t like them.

You take the hating on this band personally, which is the wrong way to take it. I understand being defensive of something you like, but it’s the wrong way to go about it.
I happen to love Iced Earth, but don’t take it personally when people say they can’t get into them because of Barlow’s voice…

  • Revrant

TJ: See I have no issue with not liking the band and even insulting them on their merits I can deal with, but putting up shit Perez Hilton would insult someone over, that just makes them look like little…elitist teenage indie kids at [insert Californian suburban school].

I mean insulting their height of all things? Come the fuck on, the sad thing is, and this isn’t pointed at you, most of these utter retards could not point out something to dislike about the band, they’d just go “WAH AH AH” and resume their malaise on Metal, slowly killing it’s credibility from within.

I have no problem with not liking the band, but I’m going to feel free to attack such pathetic insults, Axl and Vince don’t know shit about the band, and continually show their ignorance and sheepish thought patterns in their posts, such as the “What guitar solos” comment back in the DEP v Disturbed article, because they haven’t listened to shit they’ve done since The Sickness and wouldn’t even know.

To be clear, that is the shit I’m insulting, that ignorant “I cannot like because they are not hardcore/obscure enough and refuse to be at all informed about them” shit where they pull the most inane insults out of their ass.

Axl & Vince: Yeah, I called you two so-called Metalheads Perez Hilton, google and be horrified.

  • http://www.myspace.com/metaldrums84 Mike Malice

When I’m thinking about metal the first thing I worry about certainly isn’t how built the band is…actually, I never worry about it…actually, I couldn’t care less what they look like.

As for Disturbed, I enjoy listening to most of their music but if you put all of their CD’s alongside one another for a playback it’s pretty much the same routine.

People take other people’s opinions so seriously. So what if somebody makes a stupid insult to a band? It’s funny, and Rev, if somebody was insulting a band you hated I’m sure you would stay mum about it.

As a Slipknot fan WITH tattoos to show for it, I hear people slinging mud all the time, and giving me more shit for liking all of Corey Taylor’s side work. Hell when Vol. 3 came out and all of the Slipknot fans started crying I got plenty of shit for loving it.

Are you so sensitive because deep down you know Disturbed isn’t that talented?

  • Revrant

Malice: You could say the same about Slipknot too, the defining thing is both bands better themselves instead of just churning out the same thing ala Linkin Park or Nickelback.

You’ll slowly become aware I don’t have that kind of bias as I’m a frequent poster, I hate listening to Slipknot, it sounds awful to me, but when someone said they had no talent, I defended them, pointing out they had obviously improved themselves whereas many mainstream bands don’t.

Are you slapping on Slipknot tattoos because deep down you’re just a fanboy who can’t discern what’s good and what’s bad about the band?

Hopefully the answer is no as it is with me, not talented? Jesus, they’re a very talented band, I don’t think the majority attempt to refute their talent, and those that do are largely idiotic Blabbermouth teenagers, it’s the way they go about using it that rubs them raw, a way that isn’t -core and minus the cookie monster vocals and excessive screaming with guitars that don’t sound garbled and sped up, and they aren’t singing about death and pussy.

Those are things I largely identify with the -core scene, which is what this site and it’s posters gobble up and hate a mainstream band for not adhering to.

  • http://metalmartyr.com metalmartyr.com

Rev, your alright with me, man.

Mike, the fans that didn’t like Vol. 3 really did like Vol. 3. Like the Metallica fans that say they don’t like the black album(I’m one) except I love Vol. 3. I like Vermilion pt 2. I like the softer side of Corey so fuck all the people that didn’t like it. It’s a step up from Iowa musically. I love Zzyxx Rd and Through The Glass and Bother. People lie about what they like and what they don’t like to hide the fact that they have a soft side, or more creative side because it comes off as a weakness that they think people will take advantage of. Some people are just too afraid to admit that they like GOOD music.

Rev is right in a point that saying people follow the flock and we’re all a little guilty at times. It’s human nature. To shun a band, especially a metal band because they have become really popular (Mainstream) is just retarded.

  • http://www.myspace.com/metaldrums84 Mike Malice

Rev: I’d like to say I’m the kind of metalhead that likes a reasonable variety of metal for a variety of reasons. I never used to like the -core music, because the majority of it does follow the same mantra. Though I never used to like a lot of the bands I love now, including Meshuggah, Lamb of God, Motograter, Protest the Hero, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.

Now I’ve learned to find things that I enjoy in all the music. In most of the -core music I find I can’t really find any depth to the lyrics but when you’re driving or in a really intense mood sometimes its just good to listen to something as brutal as Whitechapel or Carnifex. Is Carnifex really that good in terms of musical capability? No…but are they fun to listen to? Yes, at least to me.

In a comparison of Slipknot and Disturbed, and as a fan of both bands, I’d have to say that Slipknot has definitely progressed further musically, and done a lot more with a lot less commercialization. It’s always interesting to me when people say Slipknot is “mainstream” because in reality they are FAR less mainstream than bands like Disturbed. I hear at least 4 or 5 Disturbed songs on the radio during the day, and they play far more frequently. I can’t even remember the last time I heard Slipknot on the airwaves unless it was a late night thing. Slipknot just has something that most other metal acts lack: a unique look, a unique sound, and a unique attitude.

I actually found Slipknot on my own way back when they first came out. I happened to notice their record in a kiosk that you could listen to and sat down and listened to the entire CD in the store before buying it. I ended up getting the tattoos on a whim when I was 17…maybe a fanboy move, but hey we’re all young at some point.

I just don’t think that Axl, Vince, and any other posters on this site are sheep or idiots just because they don’t want to recognize Disturbed’s talent. They probably like a wider variety of music than a good portion of the people who post on here, myself included. They just don’t like Disturbed, and its funny to make fun of them sometimes.

Metal: I agree that most of the people who don’t like the “softer side” of metal are probably just scared and that they would post it in the guilty pleasures blog. Unfortunately we live in a predominantly judgmental world and most people are very insecure. It really prevents people from discovering a variety of things that could end up being truly intriguing or inspirational.

There are always the things that we just won’t like. Like I’d rather shoot myself in the face with a load of steaming cat piss than listen to the White Stripes…but that’s the beauty of having freedom of choice! Zzyxy Road is a fucking awesome song.

If anybody wants to see REAL fucktards…just go to a political article online and read the threads THERE. That will give you some fuckin’ perspective haha.

  • Revrant

I would definitely say Slipknot have been more willing to experiment with their sound, Disturbed has their concept album Believe, which, when you kept mentioning metalheads being afraid of showing their like for a softer side of the genre, I kept thinking of that album, my favorite Disturbed album.

Hm, I never listen to the radio unless it’s oldies really, golden or recent, but I assume Disturbed are pretty popular on the rock stations. I think you have to keep in mind it’s been four years since Slipknot released anything, so naturally you aren’t going to hear them often. Disturbed on the other hand just had Indestructible so I’m guessing they’re getting played up quite a bit at the moment.

I do see Slipknot as a big band, but I see them(media-wise) as in line with Insane Clown Posse or even Cradle of Filth, basically they get ignored by the media and the majority of the stations because they see them as gimmicky and extreme. I mean they’ve sold almost as many albums as Disturbed has or possibly more, they can’t be a fringe act, right? :)

I came across Disturbed from someone at school who went to their concert, at this time Disturbed were unknown, just some band in Chicago trying to make it, and they couldn’t get big venues in Rock City, so they came to my town in Michigan. This guy went, recorded it with a little dictation recorder, I heard it and thought it sounded great, and I’ve been a fan since then, snapped up each album on day one. You know it’s funny, David actually talked about that, my first concert was Disturbed, he said they came here specifically because they couldn’t get shows elsewhere, he was pretty appreciative.

Well I think it’s more that they refuse to even consider them, they don’t listen to anything they do, they sneer when they hear tidbits of it, both Axl and Vince have shown their ignorance of Disturbed’s music. They really couldn’t tell you anything about them, and really aside from aforementioned sneering at tidbits on the radio, I imagine they haven’t seriously listened to anything they’ve done since The Sickness. I find that to be a common trend with those two and also some of the posters, that they won’t even listen to something they wrote off many years ago based on very little.

Ha, yes, I could think of a few political blogs off hand that make you more retarded just having read them.
