TRENT REZNOR IS STILL THE FUCKING MAN

Have you been following the Nine Inch Nails blog? If not, put that shit in your RSS reader because you’re really missing out. Anyone that thought Trent Reznor’s groundbreaking media initiatives surrounding the release of Year Zero and The Slip were a flash in the pan or just a publicity stunt was totally wrong; the guy is really talking the talk and walking the walk, and continues to innovate on every level by embracing the Internet as his friend.

The NIN blog is updated by Trent and his band members and crew several times a day, every day, with pictures from their current tour. Pictures from live shows, fan shots, backstage shots, random city and road shots, with a line or so of text description. For example, the above photo, dubbed “Conflict of Interest.” It’s a super-fan’s dream (not that I am one, but this is very cool regardless.)

Oh, and did I mention that Trent is in talks with HBO about creating a two-season Year Zero maxi-series? How cool is that?? It’s impossible not to love this guy right now.

Saw them this weekend and it was pretty sick.

    Trent is God

I’m by no means a NIN fan, but I love what he has been doing recently. His release of Ghosts with a Creative Commons license is an indication of where the music industry is heading. While labels are not going anywhere, those bands that can go without will probably be following in the footsteps of NIN & Radiohead.

Too bad NIN hasn’t put out anything worth listening to in over 30 years.

Yo Haters! Go Comment on shit you actually like! That would make sense, no?

  • Jim

I guess I would be a hater, never been a big fan, but you gotta admire Trent’s moxie. I just hope he’s hugely successful and other artists follow his lead.

NIN are one of those bands that puts out shit I kinda dig, but get turned off of because of obnoxious superfans who hype them up like losing it on prom night. But I do think it’s awesome that Trent makes EVERYTHING accessible to the fans, and whats better is that he does it and still comes off as an artist and not like a huge rock star trying to sell you something.

And for the record, I’m not implying anyone here as being obnoxious superfans, but I’m sure you all know of the type of people I’m referring to.I’m not trying to start a forum war or any shit like that. It’ ain’t Blabbermouth, ya know?

it’ll be real nice if other bands do wake up, realize “we don’t need the labels anymore,” and follow Trent’s footsteps. however, no one seemed to listen to Fugazi back in the late 80′s/early 90′s when they managed to sell 10,000 copies without label backing. of course, that was back before the days of downloading. hopefully some artists listen this time, and put some rich suits out of a job.

Haha. That picture is from my hometown (knoxville, TN) I took a pic of that same intersection and posted a similar caption to it.

Reznor would not have had the success of releasing his stuff for free if it wasn’t for him being on a record label and a cult following because of it.

    Too bad his music sucks.
