METALLICA’S “APOCALYPSE”

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008 at 7:50am by Axl Rosenberg

Metallica are streaming another entire new song, “My Apocalypse,” here. Of course somebody has already grabbed it and put it on YouTube, so you can also just check it out below.

I am excited for those of you who are excited for Death Magnetic. Alas, I am not. Like “The Day That Never Came,” “My Apocalypse” desperately wants to be a song from …And Justice for All – the beginning owes such a huge debt to “Harvester of Sorrow” it’s not even funny – and fails (and Jesus H. Christ, James’ vocals are irritating on this track). We’ve now heard, in some form or another, 30% of the album, and not one song has gotten my blood pumping. Sad sad sad. I guess I’ll have to wait another couple of weeks to know for sure, though…

  1. Blondin says:

What can I say? I’m sad for those who are not excited for the Album :-)
This song is good, even better than Cyanide to my opinion. Yeah it sounds a bit like “…And Justice for All”, so what? “Justice…” is a great album, these songs are good… Enven if it’s not revolutionnary, it rocks.

Again, it’s only my opinion, but I really think this song is waaaay better than anything, let’s say, Slipknot ever recorded (and I really like the two first CDs), so I don’t understand all the bashing. Some may not like it, and I can live with that, but to me this is a very solid, good song.

  2. vmanv says:

Ugh, this sucks. One would assume it’s probably pretty hard to find inspiration when you are that rich.

  3. Bryan says:

Yikes. If this weren’t “Metallica” I would have never made it past the first 15 seconds. Can you imagine any other band releasing this song and you being interested enough to keep listening?

  4. Bryan says:

Also, is it just me or does the production really sound awful? It sounds like someone hung a microphone from the roof of the garage next door and recorded their practice.

  5. Carter says:

I don’t hear the harvester of sorrow comparison but ugh. its just boring.

  6. miguel_g(Peru) says:

I find it OK, I just heard it twice, so far none of these songs are likable at first listen….but the production is awful! That’s a let down since the start, but the weirdest thing is that after 15 years Metallica sounds like……Metallica, again. Maybe this album will take some time to people to assimilate, like Justice in its time, mainly for the record’s production.

  7. Alec29 says:

    Awful. Just fucking awful.

  8. SickSixSeth says:

bryan: i totally agree with you on the production. Maybe it’s because Rick Rubin is a name more than an actual producer. James Hetfield even mention in an interview that Rubin isn’t even around much. This song sucks.

  9. Cullen says:

    verse drumming = battery.

  10. TJ says:

Hmm. I like it better than ‘Day,’ but not as much as ‘Cyanide.’

Lars still sounds like shit though. It sounds like he’s playing a different song than the other three.

Still looking forward to the new album. But I was never one who expected Master part 2. That Metallica is long gone. Just give me something I can rock the fuck out to, and I’ll be happy.

  11. Carter says:

I don’t know if we can judge the production til the final CD comes out, these are internet streaming quality, but yeah… the drum sound frmo what i can hear isnt great, and it does sound like lars is playing to another song. he just suuucks.

  12. kevin says:

This is like the only metal site where this song has not been met with very positive reactions. Gimme a fucking break, first you say- way to load/ re loadish for their first single, now when they play something that sounds reminiscent of their 80s material, you bitch still. The writers here need just admit they weren’t gonna like this album no matter what the quality was.

  13. John says:

    @kevin

Lets use the term ‘writers’ here loosely…really they are considered “homos” or “queers”

  14. Perhaps if they gave us a song that was actually well mixed, with vocals that didn’t over-power everything else and a drum that didn’t sound like shit, people would praise it. Everyone has/had hopes for this album, even me. But the fact is they have not given us a song yet worth all the hype.

  15. it was nice to hear that solo at 2:35 without any wah-wah though.

  16. jaime says:

@ John, how fucking old are you? “homos”? “queers”? I know, lets hunt down vince and beat him with sticks because he doesn’t like the new metallica when the metallica PR machine says EVERYONE should.

  17. Anthony says:

    Kevin -

When I asked Metallica to “bring back the old sound” I didn’t mean “steal whole sections of old albums.”

And its been said a million times that Lars’ drumming is… lacking. I really think its the mix, he used to sound alot better until he found the “St. Anger” tuning/snare sound. Now it just sounds like he’s beating a washtub.

  18. Blackthorned says:

Well it seems as far as this place is concerned Metallica really are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

  19. kevin says:

It sounds like a Justice song, ill give you that. But I happen to think that is a good thing. As far as the the mix, yea I agree it’s troubling, the drum sound is a bit off. Especially on “The Day That Never Comes”. That whole song sounds like shit, and I’m hoping that the album version will be cleaner and without clipping.

But My Apocalypse just makes me giddy, I think it’s as good as you could expect from them at this point, and I still feel you guys just have a huge axe to grind when it comes to tallica.

  20. Eric says:

Sounds kind of like Justice era metallica production wise, with James doing a mix of his vintage vox, with a bit of St. Anger and slayer style ranting thown in for good measure. Not bad. Not bad at all.

  21. bucketochicken says:

    Now THAT’S more like it.

By far the best of the three songs we’ve heard thus far.

I can totally understand people’s trepidation regarding these songs and whether they’ll be good or not, but jesus, if you’ve sorta already made up your minds that you won’t like it bhefore really hearing any of it, I think a caveat is in order. I mean, I’m taking a lot of what I hear from this album with a grain of salt, and it seems pretty clear that the same needs to be done with pretty much all the reviews (both postive and negative) I’ve read so far and will read in the future.

  22. ashas says:

    i agree with bucketochicken

although it sound like the song was one of those extras from first 4 albums – still — this shows the old douchebags still have enough power to pull a thrashy song.

this reminds me a lot to Damage inc and Battery – which i SALUTE!!!

the vocals are still the issue for me – but this kinda of song surprised me in a good way.

Who woulda say Metallica would listen to what people wanted and play thrash again..

that was their unique thing – thrash & prog in the same song.
    fuckin finally!!!!

  23. JTL says:

I can’t get excited about this. There is nothing remotely special about this. Remember when Metallica albums would kick you through the wall? I don’t get the feeling that Death Magnetic is going to do anything other than sneeze at me.

And, no, it isn’t the mix that is bothering me. Why would Metallica release a high-quality version of this when they know that it will end up getting ripped as soon as it goes out? Obviously, they are going make people buy it to get the professional mix.

  24. It’s good. Not great, but it’s good. Definitely makes me want to get the album.

  25. pacomon says:

    LARS YOU SUCK ON DRUMS!

The song is decent, yes the vocals are a tad annoying. I can live with the vocals.

Why the fuck is James still using load-era vocals on a thrashy type of song?

The song is average for Metallica standards, when I say Metallica standards, I’m comparing it to their self-titled to present.

  26. Bryan says:

Yes, we wanted old style Metallica, but old style production would have helped. The drums sound like buckets, the guitars sound weak as shit, and James’ horrid voice overpowers everything else. lIsten to the first 10 seconds of Master of Puppets (song) and then listen to this shit and see which you prefer.

  27. Cisco says:

This track blows just like the other two tracks blew. Nothing special about these guys anymore. They’re officially the new disturbed with a ton of fanatical fanboys defending every musical pitfall written by these has-beens.

  28. j cantrell says:

I can honestly say that YES I have called them Metallicrap in the past. But I am really digging this new stuff!!! What has really come out in 2008 that is better than this? I grew up with this band and havent really liked much since …and justice for all maybe thats why I like this so much

  29. This is actually my favorite of the songs so far. While the other two got a resounding “meh” from me, I actually like this one – it’s got some heaviness and some actual fire. Need a few more listens still. Though I do agree with what people have said here and elsewhere about Lars’ snare still not being right — what the fuck??

  30. fantasyh says:

It’s not horrible, but it’s not awesome either. I can’t really say the I like it a lot, but makes me want to give Death Magnetic a chance. I was planning on skipping it altogether, but this isn’t bad. Though it kinda feels like they’re pushing those song to be long. Metal songs DON’T have to be 5 minutes or more long. Look at Protest The Hero, they can pull off a song that’s less than that.

  31. vmanv says:

I guess people wouldn’t be comparing it to the classic Metallica if it wasn’t for the band itself giving interviews months ago comparing the new stuff to those records.

I think time has just moved on, music has changed alot in the last 10-15 years. Metallica had their day in the sun and made some great music, but there is no way any of this sounds original at all.

Plus, Lars’ is the worst drummer I’ve ever heard playing in a major rock band.

  32. canea says:

    It’s OK.

Seems pointless though. Is this really an attempt to harness a more classic Metallica sound? Would that be smart even if they could? I mean, times have changed…music has changed. And sure, Metallica was responsible for some of those changes themselves, but…

  33. Sammy says:

Decent song, but it should have been called “Reminiscent” or “Homage to What Was”.

  34. Kye says:

It’s decent, but of the songs released so far, I think this one sounds the most like it’s potential is being wasted.

And by wasted I mean they need to fix the fucking production(I’m hoping they’re intentionally releasing unmixed versions of the songs) and the drums sound sloppier than on the other two to me.

  35. Alex Haskett says:

    dont like this song either

really cant be bothered with metallica anymore.

bring on the new metal church and new edguy albums!

now those are 2 albums im actually looking forward to

  36. @j cantrell: What has really come out in 2008 that is better than this?

Boy, that was a softball question if there ever was one. Here are just a few: Testament, Jucifer, Pyramids, Moss, Esoteric, Ascend, Bloodbath, Capricorns, Brown Jenkins, Made Out of Babies, Merciless Death, Toxic Holocaust, Hatchet, Death Angel, Nachtmystium, Goat the Head, on and on ad nauseum.

  37. Ross says:

Probably the best song off the new album so far, and it’s still pretty mediocre. But you’d think that for the biggest selling rock band of the last decade, they could afford a drum set that doesn’t sound like a bunch of fucking tin cans tied together. I thought the drummer was supposed to be keeping the band on time but Lars has been so fucking off on Death Magnetic.

  38. Angry Geek Girl says:

Why is it that everyone here wants the earth to move for them every time Metallica put out a new song. Back in the day, when the Metallica sound was new a unusual, you couldn’t help but react like that.

But after having listened to there older stuff a few billion times, the only way they could shock you is to NOT sound like Metallica.

Personally I like it, but I hope the final release has better production quality.

  39. miguel_g(Peru) says:

What I find funny about this is that some people are bitchin’ more about how they are “recreating” thei old sound, while some 80’s metal bands like Iron Maiden have been doing that for about 8 years now, even rehashing old riffs and very few complain about it. Some people just want this Band (Metallica) fail in a major way, even after the major failure St.Anger was.

  40. Rattlehead says:

The version presented does sound like awful production but follow the link to the original stream and you’ll hear quite a difference.
I don’t know how you people hear “justice” in this song. For one there’s BASS. Two the drums seemed tuned right for the song. (I’m not saying anything about the playing)Three they are not trying at at all to be tricky with the arrangement of the song -it’s pretty straight forward. If anything the rawness reminds me of stuff from kill em all(especially the solo after “spit it out!”)- just with horrid load style vocals. Sounds to me a lot like what the also ran’s take on thrash is. Not like something from the big four. I like it though. Which surprises me cause I absolutely hated both the first two.

  41. @ Corey, Thanks for saving me the time and great start with Testament. Let me just add Kataklysm, Byzantine, Cavalera Conspiracy, Opeth, Even the new Soulfly was good! Shit, the list for 2008 could go on much further, not to mention the metal to come this year.

  42. Adam says:

Here is my plan to make Metallica better:

1.) Give James a beer and a new wife.
    2.) Make wah pedals illegal.
3.) Regular testosterone treatments for the whole band.

  43. CrapMcPoopin says:

I’m so glad this site, unlike Blabbermouth HATES this song along with me.

  44. Jim Gilletowicz says:

    This shit blows goats. Period.

  45. K.trout says:

Bitch, moan, whine, complain…. give me a break! How about a little reality check, are these songs better than anything that came of St Anger or the Loads? If so than its the best they have sounded in what 17 years, everyone should be happy then.

  46. Revrant says:

I find myself mostly agreeing with MetalSucks(rare as that may be), this is loads better than St. Anger, but it’s nothing amazing.

  47. RaZZo says:

WTF? Hardcore Metalli-Fans act just like Scientologists when it comes to criticism!

    This song kinda sucks.
The snare drum is like getting rapped in the forehead with an aluminum lasagna tray for 5 fucking minutes.
It doesn’t matter if it’s Metallica or not.
It would suck no matter who it was.

But the ‘die-hard defenders’ here are like angry five-year-olds:
“Shut UP! They do NOT suck! Queers!!!”

If you have to qualify your opinion of the new shit by starting off by saying:
“Welllll, compared to what I was expecting….”
    or
“Well, compared to the last 10-years worth of shit….”
Then your opinion reveals itself. You’re already apologizing for it sucking in your own praise. Why? It’s not like its YOUR crappy song that everyone thinks sucks..

What’s the big need to defend a band, even if its your favorite, when they squeeze out a turd?

The attitude of “Well, we should all just be happy that it doesn’t suck quite as bad as the last 3 albums..” is, to use a medical term, fucktarded.

That’s like saying “The last 5 times you kicked my in the balls it really sucked, but since you only grazed the left nut this time, I’m really psyched!”

I am not one of those that is set against the record before even hearing it.
Actually, I’m one of those optimists that’s actually hoping it DOESN’t suck.

Of the 3 I’ve heard so far, ‘Cyanide” is the only one that made me feel anything even close to excitement.

I feel like if we are lucky, there will be at least 3 kick-ass tracks on this album (that definitely WON’T be the single selections) and a lot of “skips”…

  48. iwrestledaferretonce says:

    Thank you RaZZo.

  49. Hibernum says:

You know what I love about Metallica? Shit like this. They recorded albums that sounded better, production wise, 20 years ago when they were poor. Now they are rich and make shitty sounding records with millions of dollars in material/studio time/fancy producers. Who does that? No one does that. But Metallica does that. Isn’t that crazy? And people lap it up like it is pixie sticks. Do Metallica fans ever feel like a big joke is being played upon them?

  50. Dude Manbro says:

Kinda reminds me of “Breadfan”. Why would anyone be expecting much from these guys? They ran out of ideas almost 20 years ago. That’s why they need five years at a time to deliver ten or twelve songs worth of mediocrity. They will continue to release these half-hearted albums until they become unprofitable, at which point they’ll just do nostalgia tours & greatest hits packages a la Kiss. Give it time, they’ll eventually resort to calling Newsted & even Mustaine for an easy payday once the well runs completely dry.

  51. iwrestledaferretonce says:

    @Dude Manbro:
I think it’s the band’s obligation to go out with their heads up high when they’re not capable of producing quality material anymore. They should stop insulting their fans’ intelligence and just say, “We’re done…..thanks for all the support, but we’re not interested in wasting your time or money anymore.”

Certainly, the past has shown this is not the case: Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, AC/DC, OZZY, etc. They are all stale and old, and I’d rather remember them fondly in their heydays than despise their money-hungry, greedy antics.

  52. iwrestledaferretonce says:

Henry Rollins once said that when he had finally gotten all his frustrations and pent up rage out of his system, then he would go off and do something else.
Respectfully, he did. It sucked when the original Rollins Band broke up, but I at least understood. They had reached the pinnacle, and bowed out with respect from the few fans who adored them.
Then a couple of years later he decides to come back with some new kids in the guise of, “I want to help these talented musicians with their careers.”
****sorry, i can’t recall the name of their original band, anyone else?*****
And Rollins digs in again, and it sucks sooooooo bad. Now I can barely stand to play Divine Object of Hatred, or Neon, or the insanely genius combo of blues and hard rock that is The End of Something.
All because he wanted another go-round. He never got rich, but he let some of us down hard.

  53. iwrestledaferretonce says:

Oh yeah, the “Rollins Kids” were called Mother Superior. Who’s heard from them since Henry went off to do IFC TV shows?

  54. skepticsteve says:

this is tallica 08… fucking great song…. but more double kick and heavier vocals would make it perfect…. remember justice is 20yrs old now…. they aint a retro band…

  55. miguel_g(Peru) says:

since the 3rd time I heard it, I REALLY LIKE THIS SONG! I’m not kidding, and I’m not trolling around… after the next song gets released (next monday) I will decide if I buy this album or not. But “My Apocalypse” is indeed a really really good song,at least for me. I like it better than the 1st single.

  56. miguel_g(Peru) says:

oh, ahd the quality of the streaming in the metallica webpage is 48 kbps. That why it sounds so shitty. But that doesn’t saves Lars’ ass at all.

  57. enemyofgod72 says:

Metallica proves here that they can still shred the riffs. That’s where any positive comment about this song or any that I’ve heard off Death Magnetic stops. James was once the reason I fell in love with Metallica. He used to have a great growl to his voice and wrote great songs. The vocals on this track are atrocious and the lyrics are even worse. James can still play the shit out of his guitar but vocally and lyrically he’s lost it. The writing sounds forced and contrived something that proves he’s struggling as a writer. It’s like any writer trying to write through a writer’s block. The music made me want to bang my head but the vocals and lyrics made me want to puke. Sorry James you’re killing your own legacy with each song I hear.

  58. blubber says:

Absolutely terrible. It sounds like a Slayer cover band.

In fact I really can’t think of anything nice to say about this.

  59. joethecabdriver says:

The song is great, the production is terrible. It takes all of And Justice’s production quirkiness, and amplifies James vocals, which should be way back in the mix. This will play better live. The riffs are epic old school metallica. Too bad they are shoved to the back of the mix. Goddamn mix.

  60. enemyofgod72 says:

Whoever the ignorant turd using my moniker is you’re an idiot. I’m neither racist nor gay. If you’re trying to be funny don’t give up your day job though I doubt you have one. If the last few comments on here are serious at all you need to seek out the nearest mental health institution and admit yourselves. Calling any of you retarded would be an insult to the mentally handicapped. Judging by your slaughter of the english language I doubt you’ll be able to understand any insults I may hurl at you anyway. Stop spewing your lack of intelligence on the rest of us. Do the rest of us a favor and at the very least become eunichs so as not to breed your massive, massive ignorance.

  61. iwrestledaferretonce says:

“My Apocalypse” — coming soon to Rock Band 2 track pack! Nail the drums on expert? You can be just as shitty as Lars!

  62. iwrestledaferretonce says:

Like RaZZo said, those of you who are really digging this new crap are just rationalizing the fact that you don’t want to admit that Metallica no longer has what it takes.

  63. groverXIII says:

I like it. It’s nice and thrashy. The production sounds bad because it’s being streamed and it’s compressed all to hell.

People need to make up their fucking minds. They complain when Metallica changes their sound, so when they go back to playing something that sounds like their old stuff they complain then too. I realize that it’s Metallica, and so people are going to hate it regardless of what it sounds like, but it’s just funny. How many of you who are complaining will download the album and secretly love it?

  64. joethecabdriver says:

    trolls. how live journal.

  65. bithicus says:

GroverXIII is absolutely right. Metallica can’t do anything to please anyone, so I’m not really surprised that this bipolar metal populace has anything intelligent to say about their songs. Metallica may not have the power they once had, but at least none of these riffs are rehashed from previous albums *cough* Megadeth – United Abominations *cough* Slayer – Christ Illusion *cough*

This site is for pussies that want to hide behind nu-metal and extreme metal bands that need to scream to get people to listen to them. This just in: A metal band no one will ever give a shart about! Yeah, let’s wipe their ass with our site and say we’re extreme \m/! Yeah man, methUL in my asscrack!11!11!!!1 Good Lord. This site is such an assraping waste of time. Slayer puts out the same record for the past 25 years, and people lick it up just because it has the same riff backwards or altered on each song 1500 times. Now THAT’s metal. I see some of the most unoriginal pieces of shit on this site, it’s ridiculous. Not even that, they can’t even come up with logos that show their names properly. How the fuck do you even read some of their names? They look like they’re trying to be scary on purpose. You really got me with that one.

I mean come on. Every day there’s some listing for a stupid metal band that will never make it past making 10 dollars at an outdoor gig in Chattanooga. But, here at MetalSucks, we must post how shitty Metallica is so we get hits on our website. How many articles get this many responses? Hm? Ooh, a story on Nevermore gets maybe 3 comments. You guys are tearing it up on here. Face it, you guys have to follow tr00 metal-shitters until you’re blue in the face just so you can get a couple thousand more visits to your shitty-ass website.

Hey, MS, just put up an article saying how much you hate DM already. You haven’t heard the album, but you already know it’s going to suck for you. Maybe you’ll look like prophets! Ooh, then you can write an article on the new up-and-coming metal band, The Prophet Fuckers. It’s one big metal coincidence. I’m sure they’ll have a logo no one can read too. Then you guys can have a big candle party and circle jerk each other to the fact that real metal bands have long hair. Must be obsessed with playing with the aforementioned hair while you’re looking at it from behind or playing with it while humping them (Only in a tr00 manner of course – I’m sure if it was any different, you wouldn’t post it on your site).

I just find it funny that out of the big four bands, Metallica still gets the bashing all the fucking time. Where’s Slayer? Oh, that’s right, they’re writing Christ Illusion/Seasons in the Abyss/South of Heaven Part 2.5. Where’s Anthrax? Oh, that’s right, no one fucking cares about them. Caught in a Mosh is a decent song, and then they failed by starting to suck shit. Finally, we have Megadeth, who is the only big four band still around that can put the same riff on an album, call it Never Walk Alone…A Call to Arms and have everyone shit their pants over it. Not to mention the Take No Prisoners breakdown in Sleepwalker and the awful remake of A Tout le Monde, which people always fail to mention.

No worries, no one will ever mention that shit at MetalSucks, because really, only one band sucks, and it’s the only metal band’s name that anyone can remember: Metallica. Maybe that’s why people hate them so much. After so much moshing, bong hitting, and the predictable drinking a keg every night, metalheads don’t even know any other metal band’s name. They just know Metallica because they are the only big-four band left that can still cause such a fucking stir in metal. I fucking love it because I get to see you people whining and crying because your band out of Death Valley, Texas will never get any attention. Metallica still gets all the attention, and you just keep feeding it to them. Congratulations.

This site should be called MetallicaSucks. I think that’s already taken though. Sorry for your loss, MS. Quit falling asleep at the wheel, and maybe you’ll stop sucking the cock of every amateur, retard band, and recognize that without Metallica, these bands would be sucking nipples til they’re 21.

    /MetalSucks (I wish)

  66. @Razzo: That’s like saying “The last 5 times you kicked my in the balls it really sucked, but since you only grazed the left nut this time, I’m really psyched!”

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  67. Chris says:

i love metallica and i always will but this song sounds like shit!

  68. Steve Las Vegas says:

Wow. There seems to be alot of opinions on this new album. I have yet to hear the whole thing, so I shall keep my mind open. I heard Kill Em All when it came out and the past few albums have been quite disappointing, but this is not 83 and Metallica are not 20 something kids anymore. As for the bashing about Slayer making the same album for 25 years. I certainly don’t agree with that, since I have played in bands most of my adult life, and know a thing or two about Slayer. Anyway. Maybe everyone is just expecting too much from a band that is just a mere reflection of it’s past. The only question I have for everyone, including the site owners. Have any of you written anything better than the new tracks that have been posted? If so. I am sure everyone here is eager to listen and give their completely unbiased opinion. I guess I will have to check back in a day or two to see if anyone has posted some songs.

  69. iwrestledaferretonce says:

Maybe these bands are thinking just like Big Tobacco:
As the older, wiser fans begin to ignore their newest crap, a fresh crop of kids (who don’t know their past greatness) are lining up to be taken in by this mediocre shit.
That’s the only reason I can think of that Megadeth is still around after all these years.
Ditto Slayer, Ditto Anthrax, Ditto Metallica.

  70. iwrestledaferretonce says:

ok so Steve Las Vegas, sorry the only instrument i play besides my skin flute is my Guitar Hero Gibson. No, i’m not a musician, but isn’t the music for the masses?
You may have a better understanding and more trained ear for subtle differences from album to album, but if it sounds the same to us non-musicians, it sounds the same.

  71. “but at least none of these riffs are rehashed from previous albums”

I’m sorry, but did you just say that with a straight face?

  72. Mike Malice says:

Sounds like St. Anger went through a little more production to me.

    Metallica blows.

  73. Mike G. says:

I know peoplw had high hopes for “DM” but Geeze prople you have to realize this is 2008 NOT 1986!!! You can not expect for this album to sound just like classic Metallica…it’s just NOT gonna happen…take ANY band that’s been around that long and compare the age of their work U2, Rolling Stones, Megadeth, even the Beatles!! The stuff they write now sounds nothing like their recordings of 20 years prior. Im a huge Metallica fan and as much as I’d love to hear “Master of Puppets 2″ IT JUST AINT HAPPENIN’!! The sooner fans and haters realize this the sooner they can open their minds to different musical styles. I mean look at “I wanna hold your hand” compaired to “Revolution”…2 totally different styles…but I like both. Like it or not, Metallica will go down as one of THE best bands in music history.

@ Mike G. – Shit is shit. I don’t care if these songs were composed and performed by 4 naked pornstars in a big fish eating fest, these tracks blow goats. Period.

  75. Mike G says:

@ Jim G. -Well Jim, I actually wasn’t speaking to you personally (you seemed to take it that way). By the way ..Have ya heard the entire CD? No?? Oh so your going to call it shit based on TWO songs…kinda narrow minded isn’t it? Jim it may indeed turn out to be ‘Shit’ but let the friggen cd hit the damn shelves first!! And just for the record…tell me your bands or Cds that you DONT consider shit…this should be good….Im sure EVERYONE will just love every band you listen to. So tell me Jim what Bands do you think are worthy for us to bow down listen to?? Just sounds like your a Metallica Hater no matter what they put out. How did all of those Cds sell a total of 100 million worldwide? How many Grammy’s, RIAA awards does it take for a band to be considered “successful” Jim? Did Metallica ever do ANYTHING right??? Tell us what we should br buying instead and if it’s good I’ll buy it. W/B

  76. Steve Las Vegas says:

Well. I must agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinion on musical taste. IF you like it, you like it, and if not, you don’t. I personally take listening to things on a musical level, since I have played for a long time. That is what I base my objectivity on. And Metallica will go down as one of the biggest bands in rock history in terms of sales, and money generated, but for those of us who have listened since the beginning. They will go down as WAS a great band and then faltered along the way. Many bands have changed over their years, as pointed out, and many have written great music well into their years, but some have stayed the same and still had great success, like AC/DC. Music is nothing more than a form of entertainment for us listeners, and an outlet for the musicians. It’s not a life changing thing, or some mystical enlightenment, just mere entertainment, nothing more, nothing less. I mean hell. Nirvana sold 10’s of millions of CD’s and their talent level was hardly anything to speak of. No matter what we all think. They will still make alot of money and won’t give two shits about what anyone has to say who doesn’t like it. That’s the bottom line.
