Yeah, not sure where the Ned's hate is coming from. They certainly weren't metal in any sense, but they were a great alt pop rock band - I still spin "God Fodder" on a fairly regular basis. Good stuff.
I never could get into Quicksand. I always heard them brought up in comparison to early Helmet, but I never really saw the connection. Oh well, I'm glad some of you guys are digging them, though.

ferret: Nope, it's just up until their very latest effort, by and large only a few songs on the albums were very good, people gush over them and all, but much like Sugar Ray I think they tended to sound less like a band up until their final album before the hiatus.

After listening to "Dine Alone" again now that i'm more awake than last night, they remind me of Tripping Daisy. Same kinda short lived career and odd take on music. Had that cult appeal similar to Quicksand. not bad at all.

Iron Maiden's got two bassists now too....I don't see the point, but there are people out there who swear it's the best they've done since Powerslave....Shite I say.

@Revrant: Are you trying to goad me into a back and forth thing about Chili Peppers?
All I'm gonna say is their early years of Clintonesque funk blended with SoCal punk was inspired and real. (probably all the drugs they were doing at the time.)

Simply one of the best albums ever released in any decade. I have to resist the urge to play nothing but Quicksand on my radio show every week. Way better than Ned's I mean, 2 BASSISTS? c'mon!

I'm probably gonna get blasted now by a bunch of teenagers who were barely twinkles in their parents' eyes in the early 90s.
"Ned's Atomic Dustbin?" who the fuck are they? they sound pretty gay to me! that ferret must be one old gay fart! Right???

So Kip Wingerschmidt..................WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH NED'S ATOMIC DUSTBIN?????????
I would never have called them metal, and their recent resurgence makes me ill, but they were an awesome band for their time. If they were ever called "alt-metal," then whoever branded them in that genre is a total f'kin idiot.
Remember in the early 90s all the really good metal bands (and some shitty ones too,) were dropped from their labels and kids who lived in small remote towns like i did couldn't find the stuff they did on the tiny indie labels. Unless you wanted to live on with Slayer (who peaked at South of Heaven [imo],) Metallica (who peaked at Justice,) and Megadeth (peak was So Far, So Good, etc.) or worse Poison or Guns "N Roses, then you kinda had to settle for the "new alternative."
I'm not talking about kids in the big cities, they may have had access and continued buying up metal discs. For me, it was Voivod, Ned's atomic dustbin, suicidal tendencies, and chili peppers. all those bands have an edge, but i never called them metal or "alt-metal" whatever that means.
BTW, in case you're interested, i don't live in the sticks anymore. Gott sei Dank!

Well, as an admitted and shameless fan of hard rock AND metal music, I'd have to say I really never liked Quicksand. And yes, I'd call them more alt-hard-rock-metalish music.
