Best metal band of the second wave from bay area ever. The Blackening it's a masterpiece but the true record of the rebirth it's Trough the ashes imho.

And Dave Mclain it's the King of underrated drummers.

MH and LOG are THE two big bands from the post-grunge era that I actively follow. As a matter of fact, I forgot all about MH until the last album (I had their first two albums, but wasn't really impressed by their 2nd.) I've reaquainted myself with them over the last year, and HOLY SHIT!!! "The Blackening" put them back on my radar (MAJOR BLIP), and listening to what I've missed by following what the industry has forced down my throat has put them back on my GODDAMNED map!!! "Supercharger," "American High," and "BullDozer" are all high-energy songs that deserve respect that Metallica cannot stand up to. Yeah, that's right, I SAID IT!!! MH is Metallica's successor!

BTW, MY #1 is Slayer, #2 is Overkill, #3 is a tie between MH and LOG, leaning toward MH...

I started listening to MH after I saw them on Ozzfest '97 which is when The More Things Change came out. They were killer live and that album didn't disappoint. The Burning Red was my favorite release until The Blackening came out. The Blackening is far and away their best album and is a true testament to metal and the "bay area" legacy. I'm amazed by bands like MH that put out their best offerings so far into their careers. Slayer did it with God Hates Us All and MH has done it with The Blackening. If they're next album can be just as good or better it'll be more than worth the wait.

Greatest band in metal currently. They absolutely killed at mayhem when I went. They owned the day.

Also, even as their weakest albums Burning Red and Supercharger still kicked ass. I don't know that I'd consider either of those albums nu metal either (and I don't even mean that in a "nu metal" is an insult kind of way)

Usually I would say that a band that takes 4-5 years to put out new shit is lame, but I've thought that all things considered, Machine Head are doing things in a smart fashion.I remember a few years back wondering how they were going to top TTAOE.And low and behold, Rob Flynn wasn't kidding when he said "We want to write, like, the next Master of Puppets." So considering they'll take a year to write and record the new stuff is alright, considering they arre saying flat out that they are under no circumstances going to stop touring until the end of next year. And what's cool is that in the long run that really increases the band's longevity. And it affords you the time to really want the new record, so you walk into it with a positive attitude, and don't go in picking out any flaws.Very smart way of conducting business from an excellent band.

Yeah, they are going to be supporting Metallica in January, while Lamb of God will be supporting them in December, I forgot who else is on the tour, but December or January would be the times to go.

I have never really been a fan of machine head's album releases, i don't know why, but something just didn't do it for me. Then I saw them live and it totally changed my perspective of them, they are an awesome live band and the power and energy of their music really shines through in that setting.

Good shit. I haven't always had the most respect for Machine Head(up until The Blackening, that is). They are definitely the poster children for a band that made a complete about-face from Nu-metal.

The Blackening shits all over anything they've done in my opinion.

It's crazy to see a band go from "those guys from the bay area" to "those guys from the bay area that wrote the metal album of the year".

I also have tons of respect for them for bringing Brandon from Hostility along for the Arch Enemy/Throwdown tour when their bass player was sidelined. From what Brandon told me, they even plugged Hostility for every show on the tour that he was on.

Oh yeah, and the interview.. Phil Demmel seems like a pretty cool guy. I'm glad all the hype hasn't gone to his head.
