NEVERMIND, APPARENTLY SLIPKNOT HAS A #1 RECORD AFTER ALL

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 at 2:26pm by Vince Neilstein

So remember two hours ago when we reported that Slipknot had missed the #1 Soundscan spot by a mere 13 albums to The Game? Apparently Roadrunner Records pulled an Al Gore and asked for a recount. Yup, really. And unlike the ill-fated and unfortunate display of electioneering and corruption of the year 2000, the results have been reversed. After much media hullaballoo and meticulous checking of hanging chads, Slipknot is officially #1, selling 239,516 units to The Game’s 238,382. Score one for metal!

I’m just wondering when we’ll see the first comment deriding Slipknot as not a metal band. Of course, they’ll be missing the point that just because you don’t like something, that doesn’t qualify it as not being what it is.

  2. bucketochicken says:

Thank god we got that all cleared up.

  3. noyokono says:

    WHY YOU HATE THE GAME?!

I actually really like The Game. I think he’s far more skilled than the rest of the G-Unit crew, including other alumni. I’ve only heard the single from LAX, and I wasn’t all that impressed. Good job for Slipknot.

This just goes to show that no matter what kind of music a band makes, if it’s marketed properly and the group has some talent, it WILL sell.

Fuck the Jonas Brothers, Lil Wayne, Miley Cyrus, and The Game. It’s nice to see something that wouldn’t make Walt Disney kill the president of his company top the charts.

  5. Kye says:

And I’ll agree with noyokono that The Game is better than G-Unit. Though that’s not saying much considering G-Unit is home to some of the biggest piles of rapper shit on the planet.

  6. Luke says:

The Game sucks. And the new Slipknot album is pretty good, congrats to them. If you want good rap/hip-hop, I suggest Jedi Mind Tricks’ album Visions of Gandhi, or even Dr. Dre’s 2001.

  7. Wayne says:

Great news! Now, if we can only switch Dragonforce’s and Motorhead’s chart positions, it’ll be a truly great day.

  8. Kye says:

The Chronic is WAY better than 2001

And yes, The Game does suck, I never said he was good, just that he’s better than 50 Cent

  9. vance almighty says:

that’s awesome. the new record is great, and i’m glad they have their first #1.

So I guess you could say “Game over”?

    Lame.

  12. Supermono says:

First of all who really gives a shit who came in what fucking place on the Whatever fucking chart. like isn’t the point of music to create art in the first place? What happened to people actually giving a shit about what they put out the the masses? Now its all about numbers and who looks this way and what it appeals to. Hey lets get a grip people and freaking get back to the real reason we do music

  13. Walker says:

This has nothing to do with art. This has everything to do with a genre of music that is considred a failure commercially to these big labels and radio markets. Advertisers dont like the idea of certain music and they control what is on radio and MTV and what is allowed to be marketed. Its all controlled by the all mighty dollar, just like anything else, and when 9 dudes, saying America is a Killing Name, and selling almost a quater of a million copies in their first week, it PROVES that music like this can sell. I cant wait to see if this shakes things up a bit.

  14. nrich says:

    lol @ supermono

chart positions mean a lot less than they did a decade ago thanks to piracy. imagine if today’s albums came out in the 90s.. we’d have a lot more platinum classics on our hands

  15. Trainwreck says:

I think it is a great achivement on Slipknot’s part to make a metal album in this day and age that can shift so many copies in its first week, particularly since the album was leaked in full and decent quality (vbr -2 ) prior to its release. I may not like every song on the album but i’m sure as fuck going to see them live with Machine Head when they come down under in october! Congrats to Slipknot…let’s see of Metallica can do the same with their new album.

  16. contempt.media says:

    The Game > Slipknot

  17. tyoung865 says:

as much as i hate to admit it…. this album is actually listenable. fuck rap
