THE GAME ROBS SLIPKNOT OF THE #1 ALBUM SPOT… BY 13 COPIES!

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 at 11:49am by Vince Neilstein

It seemed as if Slipknot was destined for their first-ever #1 album on the U.S. Soundscan charts. Not so, thanks to hip-hop artist The Game, whose new release LAX sold 238,285 copies, a whopping 13 more than the 238,272 units shifted of Slipknot’s All Hope is Gone — still an extremely respectable and awesome number. And yes, these numbers include full albums purchased digitally.

It was a big week for Roadrunner all around; Dragonforce’s Ultra Beatdown debuted at #19 with 23,977 copies sold. We hope the RR braintrust throw a kegger for all the fine folks working over there; and we hope we’re invited!

Elsewhere, radio mainstays Kid Rock, Staind and Disturbed unsurprisingly continued to sell a lot of records in Middle America.

wow I should have gone and bought 14 copies. slipknot ain’t my favorite but they might as well be the mona lisa compared to the steaming pile that is the game.

  2. Fantum says:

DAMMIT. I actually bought both CD’s, probably the only person on this site who did. Fuck my life, Slipknot shoulda been #1

  3. Kye says:

Well if I know Slipknot fans(and I do), they’re ravenous enough to go out and keep buying this cd until the band is number 1.

The Game fans? Not so much.

  4. jesse says:

That is still insanely impressive for a metal band to debut at #2 like that and be so close to #1.

I’m on my approximate 30th listen since I bought it, and I am 100% batshit about it. I’m not too huge on the pseudo-Meshuggah song because, lets face it, a good band failing at copying a shitty band just does not go over well. Other than that though, I can hear influences from all 3 of it’s predecessors with the addition of Come What(ever) May.

Does anyone else notice that they sound like they sat down and jammed a shitload of metal into their heads? I hear Chimaira, Lamb of God, DevilDriver, and Hatebreed in there to name a few.

  5. Julian says:

this is incorrect now! soundscan had reporting errors. on rerunning the sets, slipknot beat the game!

“System updated due to a processing error. Key changes on the Top Current Albums chart includes: #1 Slipknot “All Hope is Gone”; #2 Game “LAX”; #18 Dragonforce “Ultra Beatdown”; #19 Lewis*Leona “Spirit”.”

  6. Kye says:

Ok, yea, the Billboard site now says that Slipknot beat The Game by over 1000

    WOOT

  7. [...] remember two hours ago when we reported that Slipknot had missed the #1 Soundscan spot by a mere 13 albums to The Game? [...]

  8. Revrant says:

I love how you throw Disturbed in with Staind, and then of all things, Kid Rock, despite their sales being almost identical to Slipknot’s(correct) sales.

Never ceases to make me laugh.

Good for Slipknot though, I’m sure they’ll get plenty of undeserved ass rimming from the press, ala Kid Rock.

Huh, funny how the comparison just, slips right in there.

  9. chris says:

i like how yall are advertising for the game

    Metal band?

  11. Disturbed!!!! says:

Slipknot’s ok but Disturbed is way better musically wise. but no1 beats slipknot entertaiment wise. theyre just too in to it and they have fun with it

  12. Drakodan says:

FUCK YOU. I just lost The Game…

  13. Randy says:
