Death Magnetic has hit the leak wire. Head on over to your favorite Torrent site or .rar blog (or just ask a more Internet-savvy friend) and have a looksee.
Countdown ’til Metallica’s braintrust (aka Lars) throws a shitfit: T minus 10, 9, 8, 7…
Yup, and Lars’ drums still sound like shit. Awful snare sound. On the bright sound, it actually does sound like a snare drum this time.
Hmm.. Seeing the Metallica concert tickets and listening to this crappy album at the same time almost made me poo myself with unenjoyment.
So far It’s a good album! at least for me, I just heard it once and it doesn’t sounds like old metallica, or “Load” metallica, it’s actually a good blend of both, with more emphasis on the older faster material, there are some nice riffs as well! I can see myself having a blast for hours if these songs actually make it to the guitar hero game that metallica is getting done……….don’t expect the world to move backwards the 1st time you listen to it…I’ll listen to it again after to give a proper, unbiased opinion. I already know that most of you aren’t going to like it anyway. There’s a lot of guitar team work from Hetfield and Hammett, I like that.
Enjoying it so far…everything is good except Unforgiven 3, which is lyrically and conceptually disastrous. Judas Kiss and All Nightmare Long are as good as anything they’ve ever done.
Watch the dust cloud not appear as I don’t rush to my bookmarks and don’t click on Torrentz.com to not search for it.
I really, simply, can’t be bothered with it. It’s not just the music, it’s Lars and co’s shitty, pathetic, childish whining over the last few years. I’ve gone past the stage of simply not wanting to give them money any more. I don’t even want to listen to the next crappy album either.
Listening to the first song. It’s not bad, but it’s not great either. Maybe it’s the quality of this leak but the production sounds really fucking weird. Maybe it’s just me but the guitars seem to have this weird buzz, idk…
Leak is intentional to try to get people to talk about it. I won’t download this shit by any means. The has got to be the most underwhelming release of all time.
@Ross – If you’re listening to the same link as I am(which I assume most people are), the production you’re hearing is leak quality, not cd. The leak is at 192kbs which is far below the original quality(damn what itunes says, I don’t think that’s an acceptable bitrate to release songs at when 320kbs doesn’t really take anymore space). I don’t see the cd having significantly better production, but there will be a difference if you buy it. And if you don’t, just wait for a rip of the cd at either FLAC or 320kbs to release and that should sound better.
I really like what I’ve heard so far. It’s not the best cd ever written, but it’s a DAMN good Metallica cd I think.
“Like it so far”, “a DAMN good Metallica album”…..C’MON!! They have been so mediocre for so long that this is actually qualifying as Metallica now? Holy Hell! I’ll admit Im only halfway through the 6th song, but the first five sound like semi-happy emo shit!!! With the exception of about the last 4 min of the day that never comes, its ASS so far! And btw, is it just me, or has Lars really let his timing go?! I mean listen to “Cyanide” and try and tell me hes not struggling or has just really reached his pinnacle of suck! One thing though….Hammet’s solos, although recycled, are still kicking real ass. Theres my one positive point!
Yes…emo*…describes Metallica perfectly. -_-
I can completely understand people not liking this cd. That does not shock me in the least that cd will be hated by quite a number of people. But emo? Really?
*Much like numetal, I do not recognize emo as a music genre on the simple basis that every band lumped into it can easily fit into another genre. I simply use it in this post because the message is clearer and simpler by copying what has already been said.
@ Conor….And if it IS intentionally leaked to get people talking, then you just fell in to their well laid trap….oh wait, shit so have I!!!
Well i heard a bit of the day that never comes….smells like a total rip off of One to me…Tis not a good smell :(
Seriously….Tell me during the VERY FIRST track (This was your life) that when the vocals kick in over that overly happy riff/thing, that you cant imagine James clutching a cross, with a tear in his eye, looking up, and smiling while being so fuckin happy! Just like in one of those christian music compliation CD infomercials I know you all have seen at least once. Its exactly what it sounds like to me! I really wanted this to be good! I heard The Day that Never Comes a few days ago…hated the first 4 minutes, but liked the last 4 minutes enough where I though there may be hope…. Sadly I fear thats the only half-way decent part of this entire album now, and its not saying much. It almost hurts….
I’d rather wait for the delicious irony of buying it off of Napster.com
Or not buying it at all. ;)
the new album, to put it bluntly, is fantastic.
to anyone that disagrees solely because it’s metallica, i’m sorry for your loss.
what sucks is that this is what people have been salivating for since TBA, and people are still going to bitch about it. it’s pathetic.
Sounds like a 128kbs rip (upscaled to 192 and higher) to me.
StormBlast
What an absolute stream of nonsense you speak.
And ‘it hurts’? Try paying for the thing first maybe.
[...] nettsider melder i dag at Metallicas nye album, Death Magnetic, er lagt ut på nettet i sin helhet. En kollektiv [...]
Listening now, and christ would it be better without Lars on drums. Still pretty damn good though. All of the stuff that wasn’t released prior to this is better than the three tracks that were.
Oh yeah, and Hetfields vocals are pretty aggravating too.
oh, and Unforgiven 3 is fucking painful
I don’t know what is there to like about this album? Okay, they are bringing back there “old school” form- ITS AWFUL! To me, this album just sounds like Metallica is grabbing everything that made them FANTASTIC: Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, …And Justice For All, and a little of their self-titled album, ripped off whatever made those albums good and just rehashed everything they did! Yea, I can most definitely hear the load-era vocal delivery, no problems with that. My problem is that they are cover band of their former selves!
I honestly was expecting a FANTASTIC comeback. I mean look at Machine Head and/or Testament. Some of the albums they put out were “iffy” for the hardcore fans, but they came back strong with “The Formation of Damnation” or “Through The Ashes of The Empire”/”The Blackening”. Hell, even Megadeth’s “The System Has Failed” was a good comeback album. Didn’t break leaps or bounds, but it was a refreshing Megadeth sound.
I’m a fan of Metallica, I guess I have to stop holding them up on this holy pedestal that I have them on. To me, this “new” Metallica album sounds exactly single “new” Slayer that keeps on being recycled and put out.
The only way I would review this album, instead of comparing to their back catalog, judge the album based on the “comeback” albums that similar sounding bands have put out. Based on that comparison, I feel this album is subpar and I only give it a 6 out of 10. I honestly would go back listening to the self-titled through load era material than this garbage they have been putting out this decade!
YOU WILL NOT GET MY MONEY METALLICA!
I’m liking it. Then again, I’m willing to admit that it’s not only Metallica that has grown up since I started listening to them– come on guys, can’t you admit that you’re not going to have the same feelings about Metallica stuff now as you did years and years later?
Tasty riffing here n there….sweet Hammett solos,A BASS!!!!!!!!good structures,James is still on the lyrical slide tho, hard to be angry about the world when your so consumed with yourself tho, isnt it JAYMZ! lol.
Metallica shows on pre-sale now. (Radio password: magnetic) Crappy seats in Newark are $79 before fees. Booooooooo…
Listened to this album and it’s brilliant. Some of the criticism has just been so pathetic and contrived. No matter how good this album was going to be (and it is amazing) people were going to shit all over it for no good reason other than it being Metallica. Quite sad really.
Afer listen to it about 5 times, I’ve come to tha conclusion that Death Magnetic is not a good album. It’s a GREAT one. No “comeback” ala Kreator or Exodus here. Just plain, straight in your face metal. If I had to rate it with a number from 1 to 10, I’ll give it an 8.5. The ironic thing is that with the exeption of My Apocalypse, which I really like, the biggest letdows are the songs that they chose to be the singles: TDTNC and Cyanide. However they sound good in the context of the album.
This was just your life, All nightmare long, the end of the line, the judas kiss…all of them really great songs.
I’ll buy the album.
…and it’s even getting good reviews in the MEGADETH forums. It’s that good. haha.
Good album. The snare still sounds peaked out a lot of the time, but I think that’s just Rubin’s style. I thought the same with Chili Peppers’ Californication album too, he mixes shit really high for some reason..
This is the best Metallica album since the Black Album.
Jesus fucking Christ, you whiny bastards, if you want fucking thrash, go back and listen to Metallica’s fucking thrash albums. I’m sure if this album actually WAS real thrash, the same wobblecocks whining about the current sound would say they’re just recycling their old sound.
Stop coming up with bitch-ass excuses and just fucking say, “I don’t like Metallica” and fucking leave it at that. It’s evident half of you dumbfucks are nothing more than trolls who, regardless of what Metallica did, even if they gave out free fucking copies of their cds with $1000 taped to the disc, you anal seepage fucktards would STILL find something to whine about.
Hmm, seems this was their goal for the album:
1. Way too many down notes
2. Way too long songs
3. Boring random guitar solos
4. Not as shitty as St. Anger
5. No thematic structure to the songs
I know Metallica fans think it’s their god-given birthright to say that everything that Metallica puts out is “the best thing ever” but this album is average at best. I love Metallica’s early albums and while Death Magnetic DOES have good moments, it comes off as one big messy band jam turned into an album.
In short, it’ll please hardcore Metallica fans, but that’s about it.
i gave it 2 spins: a great leap from the trainwreck that was st anger but nothing impressive.
Cool voice for james as always, lars bougt the snare from a scrapyard, kirk with random cool/normal/horrible soloes, normal work for trujillo along the drum timing.
From the old school bay ‘80 bands, the best release of the 2008 it’s still testament formation of damnation
Did vince or neil reviewed it?
lol vince or neil, i’m ready for the asylum. I mean axl :D
found it, cool review.
People bitch because St. Anger isn’t like their old stuff, and now that they start playing music like their old stuff people complain that it sounds like their ripping off their old stuff.
I hate metal fans. I like this album.
I think a lot of the people calling it shit are listening to it with extreme bias. They have a close mind because St. Anger sucked so bad that they think this one sucks too because of that. I honestly think it’s a huge step up from St. Anger.
Metallica has resurfaced brining better material and better sound that St. Anger, which was the worse album Metallica has ever produced.
Death Magnetic is an album that is acceptable as a product but it is by far not their greatest accomplishment.
The band is struggling to keep up to their name and to their fans.
Lets face it. Most fans walked away from Metallica when Load came out.
Some even left when the black album became too commercialized.
In my own opinion Metallica is trying to hard to stay creative within their genre. In trying to hard they loose their true identity.
I am not dissapointed in this album because is years ahead of sound and production from St. Anger; However, it is not what I would have expected from them having such a terrible St. Anger production.
I will still go to their concert as they will still play their old stuff very nicely.
I will encourage everybody to keep your comments within perspective of the bands changes but still say the truth about the content of this album.
It still sucks.
Metallica should have started a new legacy by making worse and worse albums and seeing how long it will take before fans stop buying it. At least they would have an excuse; with this all they prove is they are trying and still come up with sub par music.
Hi, guys im Rob, i dont understand you people! What do you want from us, to quit!? St. anger was shit right!? Well we heard most of ur complaints and tryied to get a better album, guitar solos, better lyrics, also oldschool tunes, but u still dont like it. You cant hate all the time, sometimes u gotta let it go. U dont have to buy our new album if u dont want to, if u wanna download it do it, just stop complaining about something that was made for you. We are not stealing ur other music from ur home, u can still listen to them if u like. I dont know how u can feel hurt for something so stupid (release of a new album, mainstream music, old guys trying to play, noisy snare drum, etc.) , most of u are acting like the motherfucker who killed our brother Dimebag. Please enjoy the music u like, metal ofcourse, because there might be friends of u out there that still like our music made with so much effort. Thanks! chill, dont kill!!!!
Rob,
Don’t take this the wrong way but what the fans are really looking for is the same Metallica we all grew up with. The same reason you began playing bass and liking metal. The same reason you decided to play with Metallica.
It is a shame that people have come to expect Metallica to be sponsored by Armani and all fashionistas.
Today I even heard from and all timer Metallica fan if you were still playing the bass for Metallica or have they gotten rid of you and place the backstreet boys bassit instead. Lets face it Metallica has to go back to its roots. It will not only bring back the original fans but it will bring new fans by the thousands. All in all more metal not fashion.
where can I download it from? Limewire doesn’t have it and I’ll be damned if I pay for it just in case, presumably of course, that it will suck.
NM I found it…I highly doubt that was really Rob posting, but how could you really know. We do expect Master remade but have to realize it never will. I just hope for better than the last three albums which were completely useless almost as if the band ran out of money and needed to make some albums to put cash in their pockets…btw..Broken, Beat, and Scarred is pretty good…
Wow, I can’t believe how fucking awesome a couple of these tracks are…too bad there is shit like “day” mixed in, this could have been fucking incredible…nightmare is by far my favorite….that riff just kills….
I am amazed at how good this album is. I was hoping for something decent and got an amazing record worthy of their name! Its like the missing link between And Justice and the black album! I’ve been listening to Metal of all kinds for years. What the hell have some of you people been expecting!? This is simply a great Metallica album!! Some of you people are horribly jaded or ignorant. I’m gratefull I can appreciate and listen to this fantastic Metal album!!
Get a grip. If you “fans” were the same people you were 20 years ago, you’d still be pegging your fuckin jeans above your high-top sneakers wearing RATT t-shirts. One must progress to stay relevant. If Metallica still sounded like they did in the “Puppets” days, no one would even care about them anymore. For example: Had Rage Against the Machine stayed together and kept doing what they were doing, they would have gone the path of Limp Fucking Biscuit. They didn’t, and they’re still relevant. Metallica’s new record is good, if not great, considering what they have been through in their 20 year history. Of course, this is the opinion of someone who has changed along with them thank God! I feel sorry for you lifer’s that are stuck in the past.
Thanks for the free album, Lars. I got exactly what I paid for, IMO. “Death Pathetic”.
Why are all you MetallicA haters here? if you hate MetallicA so much why are you searching for them? Why are you still listening to them? MetallicA will allways be number 1. This shit is far from happy emo bullshit. People don’t have a broad selection of music anymore. They get used to one genre and if it changes a bit they freak the fuck out and cry!!!! I grew up listening to Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice For All…the Classics…but still enjoy the new shit. Most of you wouldn’t even recognize good music if you heard it.
If anyone cares…the album leaked at 128 kbps in wma format…if you don’t have that version then the version you have has been transcoded to another lossy codec and is therefore worse quality then the original 128 wma leak.
So combine reports of this single source 128 rip with the consideration stores very rarely get a new release that far advance – especially a big release – and it suggests to me that this was a deliberate, sanctioned leak by Metallica’s people. Whether that be Mercury or otherwise.
Perhaps it’s a sales tactic because they believe the band have made an album that will sway the doubters (aside from the forum trolls and naysayers), an album they believe people will buy once they hear it.
It’s pure speculation obviously.
It’s crazy. After hearing this album, once, twice, three, four, five times, each and every time I sat and thought, well, I guess the Metallibashers are going to start crying, because they would have nothing to bitch about, maybe appreciate a good album, and thrash it themselves. But it just goes to show, these bashers essentially only bash Metallica because it’s as cool as listening to their ‘in fashion’ emo band which idolizes Metallica. You’re all fucking stupid, u fucking sheep
Give it more than 10 spins. It’s growing. Not a masterpiece, but an honest work overall.
i can’t believe how fucking much i dig this album. Metallica – where the fuck have you been for fucking 20 years???!!!!!!!
i love this band since 1987. and i’m the first to say shit is a shit – even from Metallica.
but this album is good – still can’t believe…
it’s not that great – but it’s a blessing after Loads oand Re-Loads of bullshit.
shit, finally!
on more thing – someone asked where to DL this from.
go to Blogsearch.google.com and put ‘Band Name – Release’ in a search bar..
Lars dude – i downloaded your album – sue me.
plus – i got free tickets for Metallica shows.
isn’t that the same???
grow up dude!
This album is good, not great. I am a die hard Metallica fan and I will be he first to admit that this album is no where near as shitty as St. Anger, and no where close to the sacred Master of Puppets. But come on, some of you tools on here need a good kick in the junk. Metallica has and will always be a great band and their live shows are fuckin awesome. If you want to complain, try and record an album that is better, if you can do that then you can say something. If not, shut the fuck up. If you hate Metallica so much then stop listening to them and listen to something that is more up your alley. Kenny G anyone? Screw you Metallica bashers, James and co. will rule the world once more and boot all of you fuckin posers to the curb. Enjoy your Kenny G bitches!!!!!!
The album rocks so far. All Nightmare Long is an instant Metallica classic. You may call it a rehash, but I call it a revisiting. This album is old school Metallica riff porn. The songs needs to sink in. They are long and kind of rambling, but are listenable throughout. I remember hating And Justice when I first heard, but after the 5th listen I was obsessed with it. That was a million years ago.
There is some filler here, and Unforgiven 3 is just boring. I really wish James would get off the emo style lyrics and start writing songs about space aliens and Satan. I realize he’s in his 40’s, is wealthy, and has kids, but damn it all, metal lyrics are for releasing the inner 14 year old!!! Also, I wish Lars would take drum lessons again. Or something. he seems to be channeling old school NWBHM sloppiness, but it doesn’t work. The drums need to match the wicked precision of James’ riffs.
Testament are releasing the best material of their careers, and Formation Of Damnation is a better album than this one. But then again, Testament’s early albums are no match for the Metallica classics. Same goes for Exodus and Death Angel. Death Magnetic is no Master Of Puppets, by any means, but perhaps better than The Black Album. Time will tell.
Thank you, Metallica, for releasing the kind of album I’ve been wanting to hear from you guys for 20 years. And thank you, Rick Rubin, for kicking this band in the ass and being the anti-therapist.
Hmmm, I noticed in the article that neither Vince nor Axl has actually said what they think of the new album. Maybe they’re holding out so all the ball suckers don’t immediately agree with them? I dont know, but I’m curious as to what they really think. C’mon guys, out with it!
By the way, I hate to say this because it’s already cliche, but Metallica is back. This is it.
i am nothing but pleasantly surprised by this album. i just don’t understand why the 3 songs they release of this album are the shittiest ones on it. i wanted nothing more than to hate this album, and i spent a lot of time telling my friends what shit this cd was going to be. looks like i’m going to have to eat my words… on listen number 3 it’s getting better everytime.
I really hope when the retail comes out it’s better quality, I assume it will be. For some reason “The Day” has a really distorted drum mix in the leak, which is slightly painful to listen to. It almost ruins an otherwise great song.
I love Metallica…. I use to idolized Lars (being a drummer)… I hated how they treated the world with the hole Napster and other P2P services thing!
Sadly, due to that, I would not put it past the band to trick the world into thinking it’s ok to download their music (without paying) as some sort of new anti-piracy tracking or drm software scheme.
I know, I know… conspiracy theory… hey, it’s the digital age, anything’s possible.
I’ll wait to purchase the album just to be on the safe side… and will never let it hit a machine with net access. (rip, sure, got have it portable)… enable the likelihood they’re testing out some new DRM, no?
my $0.02
FRAN TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK
“It’s the way business is done these days,” Mr Ulrich said. “And there’s the novelty of anyone wanting to listen to a new Metallica album.”
Benny sums it up beatifully.
Well, 2 things I didn’t expect to say about this album:
1. Best Metallica album since the black album (I’m pretty sure this was mentioned earlier)..
2. I hate the production. That being said, why couldn’t the band record this type of material with Bob Rock? Say what you want about the guy (he ruined the band, blah blah), but the black album sounded amazing. I think if you would have put that type of production behind these songs it would be an huge improvement.
The more I listen to it the more I like it! It is better than I expected I guess because of ST.Anger. I really wish they would just redo the sound on St. Anger because the songs are really good. I think it is a great comeback album for them and should drop another in two years to show people they can. I am a big fan but in todays music a bigger fan of other bands. But, Metallica will always be the band who started it all for me and remain a legacy. Iam deffinetly satisfied and love the new album!
