CHIMAIRA ARE MAKING A CONCEPT ALBUM ABOUT SOUTH PARK???

Well, no, not really.

The above photo of alleged “song titles,” all references to MetalSucks’ favorite construction paper-animated satirical sitcom, comes from a studio blog the band has just launched to keep fans in the loop with regards to progress on their new album, which will be produced by Jason Suecof and released in ’09. The band explains the silly song titles thusly…

“even though we know some people might actually think we are serious (sad) we are not. before a song has a title, we make up a fake name to make things easier at the practice space.

“it’s a lot easier to say ‘hey let’s work on Ned’ than it would be to say ‘hey let’s work on that one with the riff’”

Anyone who has ever a) been in a band or b) seen any number of other behind-the-scenes documentaries/blogs/whatever will be familiar with the concept of the temporary song title. Still, the idea of Mark Hunter bellowing about Starvin’ Marvin and Big Gay Al is kinda priceless when you think about it.

As I’ve said in the past, I’m insanely excited for this album. Chimaira are one of those bands that make huge leaps and bounds from record to record. Let’s hope they can keep up the streak they’ve been on for at least three albums now.
