ARE YOU READY FOR NEW MUSIC FROM CYNIC?

90

With a groundswell of jazzy technical metal bands such as Intronaut and Scale the Summit, Cynic just might be the At the Gates of progressive metal. Their only album Focus was released with little to-do by Roadrunner Records in 1993, and shortly thereafter the band split up. But their legacy lived on, and much like At the Gates’ Slaughter of the Soul (which wasn’t their only album but certainly their most significant and refined) the band has gone on to inspire legions of other musicians and cull a cult-like following.

Towards the end of 2006, guitarist/vocalist Paul Masvidal announced that the band would be reuniting, and he proceeded to take them out on the road for 15 European shows in 2007. The lineup that recorded Focus has been working hard on a new record since, which will finally see the light of day; Traced In Air will drop October 28th on Season of Mist Records.

Check out a trailer for the new record below, and brush up on old Cynic on their MySpace page.
