I like some Trivium but “Kirisute Gomen” is a really terrible song. It’s long, the singing part is really dumb and feels like it doesn’t belong at all, and some of that screaming seems really off key. That fake ending kills me too – a fakeout for the continuing torment. BARF.

Their “old metalcore stuff” was actually their best stuff. Crusade was mediocre. This new album is pretty fuckin badass. Almost their best work, and certainly worth it. Every song is at least good, which is a plus.

I remember buying The Crusade after getting Ascendancy and being like, wait, I didn’t want Metallica.

Still think they kick ass though. The guitarist in my band hates them because they don’t constantly change time signatures. I find it hard groove to a heavy 4/17 time. To each his own.

“False metal” is merely moron code for, “I don’t like them for (fill in the blank reason)”. So, if they’re not “metal”, please tell me (whoever you may be) what genre they’d fall under. Jazz? Country?

This album, from the three songs I’ve heard, is going to be fucking solid. And yes, I liked The Crusade.

Well put Vince. Trivium are obviously true metal nerds that have been living and breathing metal for a long fucking time. To call them “fake metal” or “false metal” is just about as ignorant as it gets. You can clearly hear influences from every branch of the metal tree in everything they’ve done.

I’ve heard 4 songs off of Shogun so far and I’m definitely happy with what I hear. They seem to have combined the best of all 3 of their previous albums to make a very well rounded outcome.

As someone who hasn’t been the biggest Trivium fan in the past, I’m impressed by what I’ve heard so far. I would definitely agree that have decisively moved out of the bad-metalcore of their earlier releases and are really coming into their own, although I would disagree about the metallica-worship. I still feel like the vocal hooks are coming straight off old Metallica cd’s, but that’s not a derogatory comment as all bands take ideas from those that came before in order to craft their own sound.

I still don’t think I like it enough to buy it, but I can at least understand the hype now.

I hate the term “false metal”, it’s the metal equivalent of people being homophobic to make up for a lack of comfort in their own sexualities.

Back on topic, I quite like this song, I haven’t downloaded it yet but it seems “Shogun” seems to be shaping up quite nicely.
