NACHTMYSTIUM DROP OFF OPETH TOUR, ROB THOUSANDS OF METAL FANS OF AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE
Monday, September 22nd, 2008 at 11:39am by Axl Rosenberg
Even the best package tours usually have at least one weak spot, band-wise; but the Opeth/High on Fire/Nachtmystium tour, which Vince and I got to check out last week, is pretty much perfect from start to finish.
And one of the reasons is – or guess now I should say “was” – the presence of Nachtmystium. Not only did they release one of the best albums of 2008, but they slay live.
Alas, they’ve now dropped off the tour, depriving anyone who is going to an upcoming date on this tour of one of the highlights of the evening.
A statement from the band reads:
“Due to some issues beyond our control, we’ve been forced to pull off the Opeth/High on Fire tour. We’re aggressively working to try to get things together for the second leg of our fall tour starting in Los Angeles on October 8th with Wolves in the Throne Room.
“We apologize to anyone who was hoping to see us on the Opeth leg of the tour.
“Thanks to all of those who came out in support at the shows that we did manage to play, it was great seeing you maniacs out!”
You always have to wonder about these “issues beyond our control” things – Was it rising gas prices? An internal problem within the band? Lack of tour support from the label? – but at the end of the day, I just feel bad for anyone who doesn’t get to check this band out in a live setting. ‘Cause they are on their shit.
At least there’s still Opeth and High on Fire (It should go without saying that the evening really belongs to Opeth.). But everyone should really go out of their way to see Nachtmystium when/if they come around with Wolves in the Throne Room.

Rising gas prices? Um, gas prices have fallen over 10% in the past two months. If fuel costs were an issue, wouldn’t this issue have kept them off the tour to begin with?
Dammit. I was really hoping I was going to see these guys 4 times this year. I must be sure to catch the Wolves in the Throne Room gig.
Will there be a replacement to go on before High on Fire? Or will it just be the Opeth/HoF double whammy?
Woah, you read my mind Axl. I was at the show last night in London, Ontario and pretty much everyone was wondering where Nachtmystium was. I was looking forward to seeing them, and I know I wasn’t the only one.
At least know I know a bit of the story :) Thanks for the news guys!
Weren’t they already scheduled to be replaced by Baroness soon anyways? I have tickets for oct 6 in SF and its billed as Opeth/High on Fire/Baroness.
honestly I’d rather see Baroness than Nachtmystium anyway. Too bad.
They were never playing the show that I was going to, the bill has said(since like July/August) that it was Opeth/High on Fire/Baroness
Now I’m just slightly pissed that bands always pull this shit down here in the southern waste that is the Carolinas. Like when I saw Black Dahlia Murder and instead of Hate Eternal, I get Animosity and when I saw Dark Tranquillity and Arch Enemy decided not to be there -_-
I absolutely do not get the hype on this site surrounding Nachtmystium. I just don’t.
They didn’t ‘drop off the tour’…they got kicked off the tour by century media. Opeth complained that they were trashing venues and hotel rooms, they then called century media and asked for Blake and company to be removed from the tour.
“Circumstances beyond our control”. HA ! Any of you that wanted to see them should be pissed at the band for screwing over their fans.
Hate to argue with God, but I figure I’ll throw my 2 cents in. Why would Opeth complain? wouldn’t you think the venue/hotel owners would be the ones complaining?
“Blake did throw a huge beer tub out a window and almost hit the bus annnnd a bunch of fans. Opeth personally kicked them off the tour.”
-Chick who knows Nachtmystium
“[Blake] was on the third floor of the Palladium and the fans were probably atleast 25 feet behind a barricade from where the huge ice bucket landed. The glass from him breaking the window almost landed on me and another employee. He hid up in the palladium and then Scott Lee and a few others went up and found him. He then tried to deny the fact it was him and he didn’t want to pay for it.”

[...] Nachtmystium dropped off the Opeth/High on Fire tour; we wept. [...]
[...] Nachtmystium; they’re leaving in the middle of the tour. [This interview was conducted before Nachtmystium were kicked off the tour, but even at this point Baroness were scheduled as support on the second leg. [...]
