POLL: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE NEW TRIVIUM RECORD?

Thursday, September 25th, 2008 at 12:59pm by

Trivium are one of those bands that seem to divide metal fans like Moses divided the Red Sea. Some see the band as leaders in the New Wave of American Heavy Metal (maybe not so new anymore) while some claim they’re wannabes posing in the name of false metal. Their latest album Shogun hits stores this coming Tuesday, September 30th, but the album hit the leak wire some time ago and it’s currently streaming on their MySpace page. No matter what you’ve thought of the band in the past (and we’ve always been supporters here at MS), there’s no denying that Shogun represents a huge step up for the band; or does it? Tell us what you think.

Great album, no doubt. I got into them just before Ascendancy came out and I thought the first two albums were animal, I wasn’t a fan of The Crusade but Shogun’s definitely redeemed them in my eyes.

  • Carltron 3000

i agree with everything that Damotello said, this could be this years modern thrasterpeice. when people start to argue that its to “poppy” i think they might be forgetting that screaming doesn’t make something heavy, didn’t Metallica make a couple good records with no screaming?

  • DemonicLemming

New metal that’s not generic myspace metal shit/deathcore/metalcore? No “urr urrr gurrrr brie brie chug chug” vocals? That instantly raises it above most of the trash that’s come out in the past 2 years. And beyond that, Trivium is actually good. Granted, The Crusade made me check to make sure I hadn’t accidentally picked a Metallica album, but so what? They did a good job with it. All in all, a good band that doesn’t have most of the issues most newer bands seem content to live with.

Fantastic. I’m by no means a big fan of the band, but it really is good. Anyone that says that it’s ‘False metal’ is just a fucking dick. Some of you need to be a bit more open minded.

  • WetBiscut

I think I still like Ascendancy better, but it’s a good album. Much more satisfying than The Crusade.

can i combine? Shogun is their best yet and is alright. Sprinkle some “who gives a fuck about this band” on there liberally.

  • Alex Haskett

i dont give a shit about trivium so i voted Who gives a shit about this band? False metal. but at the same time i dont tend to refer to any bands these days as false metal.

Multi spinner for me, love it

liked one or two of their songs from the past, n downloaded a couple of previous albums but deleted them after couple of listens, they always spoiled it for me by being a bit gay or tying too hard to sound like other bands…

but this album has surprised me, it’s fucking flawless from start to finnish, for me this is a classic album, it’s hard to pick a favourite, first two, 3, track 6, last track, and everyone in between!

was very disapointed by Death Magnetic, but i’m over that now i have this!

it’s a shame Triviums reputation for being shit precedes them, i think a lot of metal fans would love this album, but they’ll never listen to it, coz it’s by trivium.

I’ll be seeing them live tomorrow night with All That Remains and The Human Abstract. I’v never been much of a fan of Trivium beyond thinking a few songs on Ascendancy were kinda catchy.

Lack of options in the poll, I just said don’t give a shit. It’s an improvement for them, but thats not saying much. Though I found myself doing the listening to God Forbid or Killswitch thing and asking myself “Did I accidently put this on repeat?”

God damn I’m glad Trivium did this album the way they did. Can everybody just listen this one from beginning to end, realize these guys have some serious metal chops, and just shut the fuck up about them being “false metal”? Hell even The Crusade was heavy as fuck, and aside from “Anthem”, I still don’t see where people are getting the whole “trying to be another band” idea. Ok, Matt sounds a lot like old school Hetfield, but who cares? At least he actually accomplished it instead of sounding like he was trying too hard.

My favorite song on Shogun is still Into the Mouth of Hell. There’s just something about that song that gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Great fucking album all around though. I never find myself skipping to a better song when I’m listening to it, which is rare these days.

    shogun is awesome.
    ascendancy is awesome.
    the crusade is awesome.
    ember to inferno is… meh.

    thus, trivium is awesome.

    … yeah.

  • tyler09

SHogun is amazing. The Crusade was okay, but Shogun is the perfect medium between Crusade and Ascendancy

This is def my album of the year by far right now. Matt Heafy steals the show with this vocals. His range is very impressive and Trivium did an excellent job with this album. It is without a doubt the album they should have made last time.

  • sidric

compare this album to between the buried and me, protest the hero, arisis, meshuggah and dillinger escape plan and it doens’t math up to it bu still a good album better then the crusade and for that matter Metalicas new album..

  • IHATEIDIOTS

LOVE the new Trivium album i honestly don’t know how you’d classify them false metal tho….when i think of false metal a band like dragonforce comes to mind

  • Eye of Newt

I like what I’ve heard so far. So what if they often sound like Metallica? Metallica doesn’t sound like Metallica anymore, so bring it on.

And you should totally have Manowar’s “Black Arrows” play every time someone hits the False Metal button.

Guns and Roses still kick ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
