TAKE A LEAK: MUDVAYNE’S NEW SONG “DO WHAT YOU DO”
Thursday, September 25th, 2008 at 2:46pm by Vince NeilsteinMetalSucks devotee Kye sent us a YouTube video still for the new leaked Mudvayne song “Do What Do You,” a clip of which is currently streaming at the band’s MySpace page. Shockingly, it sounds just like a Mudvayne song. If you like Mudvayne it’ll probably be right up your alley, and if not… Well, you know.
I’ve never been a huge Mudvayne fan though I’ve dug a few of their songs in the past, and this one sounds pretty much in line with “new” Mudvayne. Of note, there’s a guitar solo in this song, which I can’t recall hearing from the band before (hey, guitar solos are in vogue now). I’ve always been able to somewhat tolerate this band, and this song is no different; though in a live setting they literally put me and Axl to sleep at Ozzfest a few years ago. Anyway, here’s the song. Do what you do with it.
Mudvayne’s new album The New Game drops November 18th on Epic.

Actually, that is pretty good. I want more Hell Yeah though.
is this nickleback?
Beats the shit out of Hellyeah. I commend Vince for bringing this to our attention, and recognizing the true merit of this song…hopefully this means turning a new “Sweet Leaf”.
I’m glad Gregg is actually shining a little bit on the guitar. He’s always been good with his rhythm but I’m glad he’s getting into the solos more. Maybe this means Nothingface will get a little more lead oriented after what they did with Hellyeah.
im kind of happy i didnt pre order the cd and i didnt get tickets can you say sell out
Way back in 2000-2001 I was a fan of MuDvAyNe (I think that’s how you capitalize it) but I only have their first record (L.D.50) which sort of had some ‘proggy’ sounding tracks, but still pretty heavy nonetheless. However, I must say this doesn’t really sound anything like ‘that’ MuDvAyNe from 2001…And much like user “chris” said, this does sound a tad like ‘Nickelback’ or other hard-rock/alternative-ish bands…And I must say, this is too radio-friendly and frankly, I’m not blown away at all. I’m not even sure I particularly like this (It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever heard, but it’s so damn tired). I sure hope the rest of their record doesn’t sound like this – because I basically forgot about MuDvAyNe (for a few years) when I started listening to BlindGuardian (different genre, I know) but I still like them, and hope they don’t release 12 half-assed (more like 1/4th-assed) songs like this.
I have been a fan of Mudvayne since LD50 came out and I have to admit, Im a bit worried. Hopefully this is just the signal.
Wasn’t going to say anything, but Jesus, first Shinedown, then Muse, and then this? Jesus Christ Vince, just take all the metal credibility you have outside and gun it down mercilessly, the suffering needs to end, euthanasia works.
Did a Disturbed fan just criticize someone’s metal credibility? Maybe I’m reading it wrong.
Did a music fan just criticize a metal blog for featuring three laughable bands in light of bashing many other credible bands and get a smart ass response from a sheep? Maybe I’m – Oh wait, no, that’s about right.
god damnit mudvayne. so much potential, so much waste. LD50 had that unapologetic math metal drive and intricacy with songs like pharmacopoeia (sp?) and internal primates forever, etc that rivaled a more melodic leaning “meshuggah” writing style. this, in the eyes of someone who believed they would progress towards the more difficult avenue with their music (intricate writing, innovative not regurgitated riff structures and melodies/rhythms) is absolute garbage. give me LD 50 and let me dream of a different world where mudvayne gave a shit about what they were doing. fuck.
seriously, if you think this sounds like nickleback, visit a qualified audiologist and/or psychologist. oh, i know, it’s just a cutesy widdle joke.
