Personally, I think the idea of giving $700 billion to a couple of grossly mismanaged lending firms (and expecting a return) is a brilliant plan. Right? Not so much. The government randomly picked two of the hundreds of drowning companies to save, now that they have no competition and can thoroughly destroy the market with near monopoly power. A bit unfair, no? In my opinion, let these two giants die. A thousand small companies will appear in their places, and a few will eventually grow to their monolithic size. It certainly won't be easy in the short term, but over time it will allow the economy to continue a cycle that has worked just fine for hundreds of years. Regulation is obviously needed, but saving the idiot from his own downfall is ridiculous and irresponsible.

I already don't want my money going to this and I agree we should be screaming to the high hill to stop this damn bailout. But if it's going to happen, I certainly don't want my money going to ACORN or the National Council of La Raza.

Are republicans holding up progress or are dems being sneaky and throwing extra stuff in for their buddies?

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/warner-todd-huston/2008/09/26/dems-bailout-proposal-redirects-paulsons-profits-left-wing-group

I've checked all over and can't find a source other than conservative blogs. That doesn't make it untrue, just makes me skeptical because if this story is true, sounds like a blackmail situation to me. Either the repubs just submit and sign and then these questionable organizations receive this money they are referring to. Or the repubs hold up progress until this is out and the dems drill the media that they are holding up the talks.

A lot of questions on this and so far sounds like both sides are holding things up...

Clark, first and foremost, I appreciate the passion behind your reply and the opinions and sentiments contained with. To clarify on a quibbling point, I was referring to those who identify as Republican but do not actually espouse Republican principles and values beyond the hot button topics. I was not referencing the holdout congressmen you refer to above. I thought that was clear.

That being said, you completely misjudge my interest and understanding of politics and the issues facing our country on the basis of a juicy lead-in paragraph meant to entice people to read my latest blog-column about experimental metal and noise rock bands. The post was called "Too Big To Fart", for Santa's sake!

Politically, I am on the left, identifying as a "progressive", with no party affiliation. I once considered myself an activist but these days I'm not as "active" admittedly. By lumping me in with the lazy complainers who can't even be bothered to think critically about all candidates and issues--or even to vote--is an unfair and misinformed characterization.

So please spare me the e-wagging of your e-finger because I am not e-interested.

Yours in Beelzebub,
Gary

P.S. - I've been insulting my readers for many years, and it has afforded me a fabulous lifestyle of fast cars, loose women, and swimming pools full of gazpacho. So nuts to that!

The revised bailout plan that the democrats sent to the executive branch doesn't allow for the people in charge at these companies from getting a fat pay day. Instead, it is more concerned with protecting the firm's employees and continuing to allow the credit market to thrive (something integral to our economy). Also, they have to make their accounts transparent, as well as the government gets a stake in the company (to help turn a profit and make back the money we spent). Economically it's not a BAD plan, but it's also not guaranteed to work.

If you look at who is holding up the plan from being passed, it IS the house republicans. They are proposing a counter-plan that is more in line with traditional Republican philosophy (lowering taxes to increase investment in wall street without spending the taxpayer's dollars). So saying that republicans should be in the street screaming isn't necessarily correct, since the house of representatives seems to be sticking to that philosophy fairly well.

I consider myself a libertarian, and I can't say I agree with either plan. I personally don't like the idea of giving more power to the government (and drastically increasing spending), but at the same time (like Tmack said) I don't want to get screwed by the failed practices of the mortgage giants. But what can you do? At the end of the day we elected these officials, and they are going to make the final decision. No, we aren't going into another great depression; and no, we don't need to start a revolution. Guess what? Election season is here! Take some personal responsibility and research what your representatives and senators actually did in their term, then vote based off of that. Your senator voted for a giant wall street bailout, something you didn't like? Do your best not to reelect the same ass hat. If he still gets elected then apparently enough people disagreed with you and he will stay in office. You don't like that? Tough. That's how democracy works. I'm sick and tired of reading about how people are fed up with the politics in this country and throw around big words to make it sound like they know what they are talking about, when in fact they are fairly uninformed themselves. Stop complaining and actually do something for fucks sake.

This is the only thing I will ever write on this site about politics; I don't read a metal site to read the same crap I can easily get from the spambots on digg.

Oh, and it's not wise to insult your readers. You will find that there is the same distribution of intelligent metal heads as you will find in most other demographics (I'm not saying I'm one of them).

I am not really for any party because I am a Libertarian, but from what I have read, the Dems, including Barack, are all for the bail out, while McCain has been holding it up. I do agree that them Wallstreet fuckers shoud just go get in line at the unemployment office and get a blue collar job for a few years to see what life is realy like, but if they go down and cause us to g down to, there should be some serious debate about a revolution.
