AMON AMARTH MAKE THE MOST EPIC VIDEO OF ALL TIME
Monday, September 29th, 2008 at 1:13pm by Vince NeilsteinAs MetalSucks pensman Sammy O’Hagar so eloquently stated in his review of Amon Amarth’s latest album Twilight of the Thunder God (which comes out tomorrow in the U.S.), the kings of Swedish viking death metal have always justified their outward ridiculousness by backing it up with skull-crushing, top-notch metal. And when it comes to making music videos things are no different; with their epic new video for the album’s title track — which has a full Viking battle reenactment and lots of synchronized head-banging, natch — Amon have created one of the most visually striking and cinematically beautiful videos released in ages, at least to these untrained eyes. Even if frontman Johan Hegg isn’t sporting his usual bare-chested metal chub this time around, at least he’s got his own band’s shirt on, the very definition of epic if you ask me. And oh yeah, did I mention Viking battles? Viking battles!
Speaking of Viking battles, time is running out (as in tomorrow is the deadline) for our Amon Amarth Viking Video Contest, co-sponsored by Metal Injection and Metal Blade. Create your own minute-long Viking reenacement, and a giant stash of Amon swag and booty could be yours. Enter and read the rules here.
Lastly, don’t miss the epicness when it rapes and pillages the shores of North America starting October 1st; catch the MetalSucks co-sponsored Amon Amarth tour with the unfuckwithable lineup of Ensiferum, Belphegor, and The Absence in tow. Dates after the jump. See you there, beer steins in hand. This might actually be the night where I finally where my viking helmet.

Awesome video! The new album is great, too (yeah, I was a nerd and got the bobbleheads and everything).
Isn’t being labeled the “kings of Swedish viking death metal” about equivalent to being the champion of the Northern Vermont Frisbee Golf league?
I’ll be at the Anaheim show on Weds., assuming of course the Disnazis don’t interfere with this show like they did with Machine Head last year.
How ’bout we get a Charlotte, NC date added there?
Gah, 18 . I’ll be sitting at home sulking on the 9th.
Video is cool…but didn’t Dimmu Borgir recently do something that looked quite similar?(although perhaps in a more ‘anti-christian’ than ‘viking’ context)
Dimmu Borgir – The Serpentine Offering

Dimmu Borgir – The Sacrilegious Scorn

Dimmu Borgir – Sorgens Kammer II

BTW, I’ve updated my shitty blog, you just might like it if you give it a try…Or otherwise.
finally, some had the gumption to make a metal video featuring vikings
@bill: You are pooping near our viking parade. Please stop.
Awesome. Truly (cliche) epic!!
I love reading a good intro article and seeing a fittingly incredible video.
I also love when things live up to the hype!!
Awesome video!
Despite the fact that Amon Amarth have been singing about
Vikings their whole career, they always find a way to
keep it interesting and BROOTALS!
needs more extras. the video didn’t even try to hide the fact that there’s only about 20 people fighting. minus points for epicness.
@ Sammy: Yes! But damn, I sure do love the Northern Vermont Frisbee Golf league!
Had flashbacks of watching 300 in theaters and seeing every male around me sporting ten foot boners to my getting up and leaving 3/4 of the way through.
Nice to see them put a lot of effort into it though, so rare to see from metal these days, the grandest majority are usually a bunch of lazy shit.
