BAND NAMED AFTER POPULAR GRAPHIC NOVEL NOT LIKELY TO SEE SALES INCREASE AFTER RELEASE OF FILM ADAPTATION

Z Records, a label no one has ever heard of, is proud to announce the signing of Watchmen, a band from South America that is neither Sepultura nor Krisiun.

The news confirmed what many of the band members’ girlfriends already feared: that director Zack Snyder’s soon to be released, heavily anticipated adaptation of Alan Moore’s much beloved graphic novel, Watchmen, will do little to nothing for the band’s record sales.

“If they’d signed to a decent label that could actually promote them, maybe people would buy their new album thinking it had something to do with the movie,” said a source close to the band, who agreed to speak only on condition of anonymity. “But on Z Records, no one is gonna know what the fuck this band is. People will spend their misplaced adoration for Watchmen the movie on smiley faced pins instead.”

SmileyWorld Ltd., the company that owns the license to the smiley face, could not be reached for comment.

Isn’t the term “graphic novel” just a euphemism “comic book” for adults (likely living with too many male roommates or their overbearing mother) who don’t want to admit they’re still reading comics?

Isn’t the term “graphic novel” just a euphemism for “sex repellent”?

@ noyokono: You win. Both for brevity and for better capturing the essence of what I was trying to say.

Sure, they are essentially comic books; what of it? I read a lot of material for school and work, so it is nice to have something to read that is not a bunch of closely packed words. It is also a lot easier to read while commuting on the Tube.

As for sex repellent, it sure is nice to make your acquaintances, kettles 1 and 2. Have you ever been to a metal show? Rarely, if ever, a magnet for the ladies.

Touche JTL. Metal shows are mostly attended by ugly, sweaty males. That’s why smart bands write a ballad here or there…to attract women.

How’s this for total dorkdom — I used to be the lead singer for an 80′s thrash band called The Comedienz named after the baddest mofo from the Watchmen, The Comedian. Of course, I was the only one in the band who read the graphic novel and I was unable to convince my bandmates to read it and understand what the hell he was all about.

Later on, the drummer and guitarist ripped off some gear from me and the second guitarist, claimed our pad had been broken into, and then they quit the band. Thus, ending my very short-lived career in a band.

My favourite comic book, nay, book in general, ever. And I still can’t be arsed listening to this band.
