Last Slayer show i attended(jager tour w KSE and Mastodon), they handed out cd's during set breaks and most of those ended up on the floor by the time Slayer hit the stage. I did manage to keep mine intact throughout my mosh, but it would seem to me that it would make more sense to hand out the free merch at the end of the show.
