ZAKK WYLDE IS THE NEW GUITAR HERO

Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 12:30pm by Axl Rosenberg

Guitar Hero III featured Slash and Tom Morello as bosses and pretty much used Slash as the entire basis of the video game’s ad campaign; I guess now it’s Zakk Wylde’s turn, as the Ozzy/Black Label Society axemaster is now being featured in a trailer for Guitar Hero World Tour, which will be released on October 26.

Oddly enough, while there’s a BLS song in the game, Wylde played on neither of the original recordings of the included Ozzy songs, “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley.” I don’t know if they’ll be using re-recorded versions featuring Wylde for the purposes of the game or if they’re just depending on Guitar Hero’s younger (read: target) audience not know the difference between Wylde and Randy Rhodes.

In any case, here’s the trailer:

As is usually the case with Guitar Hero, there’s a whole lotta metal included in this edition’s “set list,” including three Tool songs and offerings by Metallica, Van Halen, System of a Down, Dream Theater and Lacuna Coil. Should be fun if you like these rhythm games.

any tips whether the game will ship w/ a customized guitar controller that features 5 extra fret buttons to trigger random unnecessary squeal notes?

  2. Revrant says:

Ah, damn, makes me wish I wasn’t horrible at that game, though they say people who can play guitar are horrible at the game, so there you go.

  3. jesse says:

Of course they don’t put in any of Zakk Wylde’s songs.. it would be useless seeing as you can’t do pinch harmonics in guitar hero.

  4. Joe says:

Does anyone else agree with me that the solo’s in Mr. Crowley are going to be insanely hard?

  5. Jenna says:

I’m gunna seem like an idiot, but it’s Rhoads, not Rhoades, guys. But I think Wylde’s a better dude to have in the game than Slash. All I need in my school are more retards air-guitaring to Welcome To The Jungle. Plus Slash is a self absorbed moron who does guest appearances at Black Eyed Peas shows. ‘Nuff said.

  6. Revrant says:

Well, despite his talent Zakk is a douche, most guitarists are, that’s something to keep in mind.

  7. Rob says:

Just putting it out there, Tool is getting their own venue in the game, too. That shit is going to be brutal.

Zakk Wylde strikes me as being a white supremacist. I don’t know why. Every time I see him, something in my brain goes “He hates all non-white races.” “Fire It Up” makes me think he’s talking about burning a cross at a Klan rally, and “Blood Is Thicker Than Water”… well, you get where this is heading.

dudes, after all this fantastic journalism, you’ve hit me in the face. with the sock of disbelief.

please edit this and change the Rhoades to RHOADS

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF FUCKING GOD/LUCIFER
