(1) As for steroids, I agree ‘bad’ for the most part…BUT – if these wrestlers were to utilize steroids *SAFELY* (and yes it’s possible to do so) ideally BEFORE their wrestling career begins (to help energize them so they can put in a few extra hours in the gym building up their physique – not for aggression, speed, strength, etc.) then it wouldn’t be such a bad idea. The problem is that most wrestlers take steroids, and ’super-stack’ them with proteins, creatines, painkillers, caffeine-pills, ephedrine, super-vitamins, anti-depressants, etc. and then end up with high-blood-pressure and failing-kidneys.

And nevermind all of the alcoholism that is almost ‘required’ in the wrestling business.

And another thing, not all wrestlers use ’steroids’ for building up their bodies. I was on an MMA (Mixed-Martial Arts) forum a couple months ago, and they started talking about fake-TV-wrestlers, and one of the users mentioned that wrestlers “JBL” and “William Regal” (not sure about spelling) were both suspended by WWE because of some steroid/performance-enhancing substance they found in their blood. But the last time I saw either of those two wrestlers, they didn’t really look like they were in good-shape, but they were powerful and aggressive in the ring as I remember it.

…And the Selective Serotonin ReUptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_serotonin_reuptake_inhibitor are another problem. Turns out every once a week, some lady in London, Los Angelas, Texas or Montreal, etc. takes one of these SSRI’s and then drowns her baby in the bathtub, chops her child’s hands off, or if it’s a guy he throws is wife off the balcony, or if it’s a cop he starts Taser-ing and beating a citizen for no fucking reason.

(2) Actually you might wanna blame Vince MacMahon (forgive me if the spelling is wrong) a couple years ago, he ran out all the major competition (WCW, ECW) and took in a whole lotta wrestlers from those brands…Then 2 years later started firing 80% of them, left-and-right, and then he ended up with fewer wrestlers, and then those same wrestlers are over-worked every week, and every 2 or 3 weeks someone gets injured, and then they’re out of action for another couple of weeks healing up (and never given enough time to sufficiently do so) finally we end up with with a boring, lack-luster and in other ways ’shitty’ show, where they regurgitate the same bull over and over again with the same tired boring and old story-lines and the same predictable matches (Y’know, the good guy turns heel, the heel turns face, friends become enemies, enemies – friends).

I still watch some wrestling as I flip the channels – usually between commercial breaks for Family Guy – but then I just go back to surfing for porn. But other than that, I can’t say I’ve watched an entire wrestling show since I was like 12.

Beyond that, there’s something of an epidemic of fake-TV-wrestlers dying, due to a mixture of painkillers, steroids and in some cases over-doses/super-stacking of recreational drugs. About a year ago, I read an article of something like 50 wrestlers that died all in their late-30’s to early-40’s. Given the kind of injuries these guys sustain, they might as well be fighting/wrestling for real. But then again, I think that is more in the domain of MMA as opposed to Pro-Fictional-Wrestling or even Pro-Boxing.

In July 2000, Bigelow received second degree burns on 40% of his body, while rescuing three children from a burning house near his home. Following the incident, Bigelow spent two months recovering in a hospital.[6]

Upon his retirement, Bigelow moved to a private recreational community called “The Hideout”, in Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania. He also opened the eponymous Bam Bam Bigelow restaurant, located nearby in the town of Hamlin in Salem Township, along State Route 590,[7] but it later closed. He then relocated to Florida, with even his close friend Shane Douglas clueless as to his whereabouts.[5]

In May 2004, Bigelow was charged with endangering the welfare of a child through reckless driving. He attributed the incident to a seizure he had suffered, and the charges were dropped two months later. In August 2004, he was convicted of possession of cannabis.[5]

On October 2, 2005, Bigelow was hospitalized with a broken nose and several lacerations after crashing his Harley-Davidson motorcycle in Spring Hill, Florida. His passenger at the time, Janis Remiesiewicz (Bigelow’s girlfriend), suffered severe injuries and was declared to be in “critical condition”. Larry Coggins, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol, stated that Bigelow would be the focus of a homicide investigation should Remiesiewicz die, intimating that Bigelow would likely face charges based on “the factors…that led to this crash”. Remiesiewicz eventually made a complete recovery, and remained with Bigelow up until his death.[8]

On the morning of January 19, 2007, Bigelow was found dead in his home by Remiesiewicz at approximately 10:00 a.m. EST in Hudson, Florida.[9] At the time of his death, Bigelow had been suffering from a persistent infection and diabetes.[10] On March 3, 2007, the Tampa Tribune reported that autopsy results showed that Bigelow’s death was due to multiple drugs found in his system including toxic levels of cocaine and the benzodiazepine, temazepam. Bigelow was also suffering from a heart problem, specifically arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
