GOJIRA’S HEAVINESS GETS LITERAL
Monday, October 6th, 2008 at 10:55am by Axl RosenbergThe video for “Vacuity,” the first single off of Gojira’s ball-achingly awesome new album The Way of All Flesh, has been released, and I have to say, I love the image of the woman dragging the giant, heavy box along the road. ‘Cause I like to imagine it’s full of the music from Gojira’s new album, and that’s why it’s so friggin’ heavy.
The Way of All Flesh hits stores next week.

Notice she is dragging a coffin……any chance they are referring to the Death Magnetic album cover?
I believe the box is actually a coffin, you can see it better when it falls over the cliff. OMGSPOILERS.
Damn. That’s heavy.
Gojira is my kind of heavy. To be honest – I can’t take bands like Cannibal Corpse for longer periods of time, because they sound to me like they’re kind of mushed together. This doesn’t happen with Gojira. It’s plenty heavy alright but everything has it’s place, and the vocals are amazing. Can’t to get my hands on the CD.
Not sure why this song is supposed to be so heavy, I’ve heard far heavier things, hell, Dethklok is heavier than this, remove the growling/screaming vocals and insert shouting vocals, you have an Active Rock charter.
Nothing fancy video-wise, naked chick, random imagery not related to anything, amazingly dark shots of the band being total metal and badass with their metal attire and metal expression metal metal metal.
At least I can laugh and agree with you about Nickelback.
Just a guess, but the coffin dragging might be a reference to the awesome old spaghetti western Django.
Main guy drags a coffin around with him through the whole movie. At the end, you find out he keeps a shitload of weapons in there, and he kills tons of people.
And this song is badass.
amazing album fucking heavy . every song sounds way different thanks for telling me about these motherfuckers .
dude. that’s a casket.
GOJIRA guitarist/vocalist Joseph Duplantier recently told the UK’s Rock Sound magazine about the clip, ”It is a fantastic, mind-blowing video. The song is about the Buddhist meaning of the word which is emptiness not nothingness, the ultimate presence. It was very hard to picture that concept in a video so we told the story of a girl carrying her own casket as the whole album is about facing your death and your pain. It seemed fitting.”
Holy shit that song crushed balls. I actually got goosebumps when the coffin went off the cliff. Something about how the vid was edited to have that new riff come in.
Regarding Axl’s calling the coffin a “box,” I think it’s fair to say that he saw the first 20 seconds of the video, came, lit up a cigarette and made this post. I made it through the whole video, but I’ve studied tantric technique in Tibet for twelve years.
Damn, that’s one of the best video clips i’ve seen all year!
Heavy as, as well. Very Nice
Gojira have a thick, layered heavy sound and it’s completely DIY. They had some help on this new album but their first 3 albums were self-produced and clearly they did most of the production on the new album as well. I’ve never heard a band with a heavier sound that also has so many catchy riffs. Gojira make most metal bands sound like a bunch of pussies.
No…No they don’t.
Boobies!!
Yes, it’s definitely a metal video, boobies are present.
I think the video’s meaning is obvious. It’s Gojira. Obviously, the woman litters and drops her paper cup at the beginning and dragging that coffin around is what they consider to be a proper punishment for such a crime. She’s lucky that she didn’t hit a skunk with her car or something. You don’t even want to know the punishment for that. Ick
This shit is not heavy at all in my opinion.
Gojira are just… very VERY good.
This is a badass song.. Actually all of Gojira’s music is pretty badass aswell, and this just furthers it.
