CLEARLY, THIS BAND IS GOING TO CHANGE THE FACE OF MUSIC FOREVER

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 at 1:00pm by Axl Rosenberg

Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler, former Guns N’ Roses/L.A. Guns guitarist Tracii Guns, former collaborator of a former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Eric Dover, and former Guns N’ Roses appreciator Chip Z’Nuff have formed a new supergroup, Guns of Destruction. Aside from being a redundant reminder of the obvious – that guns, y’know, destroy things – the name is a reference not only to Guns N’ Roses and L.A. Guns, but to Brides of Destruction, the last supergroup no one cared about that featured Tracii Guns.

It might also be a really sad way to try and invoke Appetite for Destruction, anĀ  album that 75% of this band made no contribution to but really, really enjoy.

Blabbermouth tells me that the band will make their live debut on November 19 at the Key Club in Los Angeles. Chip Z’Nuff has hinted that there will be “special guests” at the show; since all the former members of Guns N’ Roses that anyone cares about are not in this band and actually have important (e.g., paying) shit to do, I’m guessing these guests will include Gilby Clarke, and, um, that’s it. I mean, between Adler and Guns, this band has already burned its bridges with half the D-list hair metallers out there.

I’m not being snarky when I say that if I lived in L.A., I would definitely attend this show. I can’t promise, however, that everything I said before, during, and after the show wouldn’t be snarky.

Look for this band to release its debut album in the winter of ‘09 and break up in the summer of ‘09.

    BRAAAAP BRAP BRAAAAAP

That flyer is cooler than any single person in this “supergroup” or whatever they feel like calling themselves

  2. Ian says:

Somebody needs to write a Top 10 list, of the top 10 hair metal douchebags, whose goofy last name (which may or may be real) was incorporated into their bands name, or the other way around.

    I’ll start:

    1. Chip Z’Nuff
    2. Kip Winger
    3. Mark Slaughter
    4. Axl Rose
    5. Tracii Guns

Eddie Van Halen and Jon Bon Jovi don’t count because, by comparison, they are actually reasonably talented.

  3. Sammy says:

I pride myself in usually being able to come up with something reasonably witty, but man, I got nothin’.

Oh and Ian, you’re funny. Yeah, I guess EVH is “reasonably” talented.

  4. Dramapants Records says:

Eric Dover WILL NOT be performing in this group. He will be continuing to work on Sextus. Just the name “Guns of Destruction” is an embarrassment and insulting to his friends who were a part of that record.

  5. Alec29 says:

Eric Dover (SLASH’S SNAKEPIT, JELLYFISH, SEXTUS) has shot down reports that he will take part in the upcoming performance by GUNS OF DESTRUCTION, a new “supergroup” which reportedly features Steven Adler (GUNS N’ ROSES), Tracii Guns (L.A. GUNS, BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION) and Chip Z’nuff (ENUFF Z’NUFF, MISSING PERSONS, ADLER’S APPETITE). Dover is scheduled to enter the studio next week to begin recording the follow-up to “Stranger Than Fiction” with his SEXTUS bandmates Todd Kerns, Ron Dziubla, Mitchell Sigman, Joe Karnes, and Eric Skodis. Eric Dover learned of this rumor this morning via the Internet and stated, “Tracii had called me to ask about doing a few cover gigs, but I’m not joining a supergroup. They’re all great guys, but SEXTUS is my focus.”

SEXTUS’ new album will be released on Dramapants Records. Dover is also currently producing a record by Dramapants recording artist “Moebius Fox”.
