See, now that wasn't so hard. You guys are having a completely asinine conversation, but at least you're not just "yelling" at each other. Although, I think your balls just touched.

I think establishing the act is maintaining that success and becoming an accepted musical presence, not just putting out one big seller and then instantly fading into obscurity to break up or lose most of your original members, or even just keep doing the same thing and still having fans despite the lack of mainstream success, the latter is true among quite a few acts.

So if they've been around for around ten years and are successful, and were back then, I'd call them established.

yea, but isn't selling platinum something that establishes the act? Of course Disturbed were obscure at one point, but they aren't anymore, and stopped being so when they started selling huge numbers.

There are hundreds of artists that aren't well established and go on to sell multi-platinum albums, you may recall The Sickness back in the day, Disturbed were nobodies when I first became a fan in the late 90s, then from relative obscurity, bam, out of nowhere they're at the forefront of nu-metal.

I had to look that up, you mean the EP? I didn't know it went multi-platinum, though it's surprising, and I guess the President's did.

If you want to nitpick, then don't include long since established acts, and I won't include one-album wonders, eh?

How can a band be "popular" (by the definitions we're talking about here, roughly platinum selling or mainstream acceptance) and not well established? Maybe I missed something in the rules to this exercise.

BTW, ugly kid joe's breakthrough album, the one that got all that MTV attention, sold multi-platinum. Oh, and so did the president's break through album (again multi platinum), for similar reasons. Hardly unpopular.

Ah damn, Metallica, GNR, AIC, etc, this would have been murder on you had I asked for no established acts, oh well.

I already did before and you just mocked me, as you may recall, so I didn't bother that time.

Their background? They went from mega-platinum Creed to 47,000 selling Alter Bridge, somehow that disqualifies them?

I'll throw the ones I like most, rather enjoyed a bunch of Ugly Kid Joe songs...Paper Lace...The Presidents of the United States of America, Fastball, God taking a while, having to flip through all my lists and determine which are technically "unpopular", I could include Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, though due to his cover of the obvious his one album went Platinum.

Not willing to keep digging, too much music for that, those are my main choices, and I guess I don't really like "unpopular" metal if that's what I was supposed to list. I do have a lot on here, I just find most of it too pretentious or meatheaded to fully enjoy all the time.

Sorry for the delay, wasn't avoiding the question. I actually enjoy Metallica, though not the last two albums, (yes I think there were a few good tracks on load and let's not examine that lest this because a Metallica thread.. yikes), the first two or three SOAD albums, (didn't care for the last two), I dig Rammstein (though I'm not sure they'd fit, they make it onto major picture sountracks often enough and that's my justification to include them here), I'm not really that big a NIN fan, pretty big In Flames fan (even though you could argue they are more "trendy" than "popular") Type O Negative (platinum selling, whether you like it or not). HUGE Alice in Chains fan.
Always was a pretty big Guns and Roses fan, Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, I even like Chris Cornell's first solo album, .

I think that's more than one. I notice you take the time to try to punk me out, but didn't name one band there yourself, Rev. Alter Bridge DO NOT count because of their background. BTW, that wasn't hard at all.

Alright, I'm game if Jaime is, though we'll be excluding Nine Inch Nails and Tool, naturally, did it just get harder? I think so. ;)

I have a very simple solution here. A sociological experiment, if you will. Jaime, name one popular band that you like. Revrant, name one unpopular band that you like. Then you guys can hug and not touch balls or whatever you want to do.
